If he was overweight, on the ale, unmotivated and out of form this season then Gracia would also want to sell him.

Didn't he say he reads all this too at some point in that interview and that he saw all the bits about him?

I doubt Mazzarri had that much power, it was probably down to Pozzo at the end of the day

Mazzarri was not a popular figure at the club. A lot of players did not like his antics on the touch line and the attitude he publicly showed when things were not going right. Always making excuses and his body language on match days was clearly one of blaming the players for not carry out his instructions.

Having said that, Troy does have to take his share of the blame. Only he can be in control of his own fitness levels. Look how overweight and out of condition he was in pre-season. That stayed with him for two seasons. Only now has he got back to his peak physical ability.

It's no surprise the club were looking to move him on, as he was not looking after himself and it showed on the pitch.

His head is back in the right place now and he looks like an asset again. Fully deserving of a first team place and is the "main man" again.

Personally, I love Deeney and what he brings to the club. His honesty, all the stuff he does off the pitch is second to none. He's a top bloke, not perfect as we all know, but a fully motivated Deeney is a real force.

I get the impression you have to get into Deeney's head and push the right buttons. Mazzarri did not do this and couldn't connect with anyone that did not speak Italian. He was always going to fail at Watford, as a coach is as much about motivating players and creating a unity or team spirit as it is tactical.

Deeney does speak highly of both Silva and Gracia when it comes to their motivational skills though. Not surprised to hear this about Gracia, but a little surprised to hear his thoughts on Silva considering he wasn't really part of his plans.

Maybe he recognised why he wasn't part of Silva's plans. And that could be why he's done something about it

True, but then again, if the Head Coach isn't selecting certain players, then that might indicate which ones can be offloaded.

Didn't he want to sell Doucoure as well?

I’m still genuinely baffled why any fan liked Mazzarri or the football under him. The odd game here or there but personally I didn’t enjoy his tenure at all. Personally, I think either the football has to be good to watch and/or the manager and players have to show they care for the club and want to play for it. The season under Mazzarri was none of these things.

I hated him from the moment he arrived unable to talk to the press in English after a year in the UK to "learn the language".

There was a brillaint team spirit under Silva, until Evertongate. No-one can deny that. Just look at the touchline scenes when they got that last minute equaliser at WBA. If Evertongate hadn't happened I'm sure the successful start would have continued.

when he had the full squad (or near enough) available we looked decent. Plus he was a maverick. I liked him. If he had the current squad and the current lack of injuries we'd be doing all right I reckon.

I guess the maverick side to him was something I didn’t mind but his tantrums on the touchline just became pantomime and done for the cameras as opposed to any real frustration.

Not sure we’d be doing well under him still even if he did have more luck with injuries. His personality and style just never seemed to suit the PL in my opinion.

Yeah you are probably right and don't get me wrong I wouldn't swap him for gracia, but given that he kept us up despite our injury crisis I have no particular ill feeling towards him, or that season at all really. The second half of QSF was miles worse, I reckon.

I have been critical of Deeney over the last season or so. He has been petulant and blatantly overweight and unfit. Surely the medical/fitness staff have some blame in not forcing a different fitness /diet plan on him but Deeney at fault too . Glad Deeney in an obviously happier place but just a shame he has wasted the last year or so of his career.

I’m comfortably over 30 and if I go on a session now I feel it for two or three days afterwards, I feel really tired until midweek. If Troy was boozing as much as he says then there is no way it wouldn’t have affected his training sessions and fitness and then subsequently matches.

Naively I thought most professional footballers wouldn’t touch booze (other than the odd one here or there) during the normal season, as at top level sport every 1% makes all the difference.

Same, a heavy night out has me bed-ridden the next morning. How he managed to get out of bed to "train" is beyond me.

To be fair, there were times where he did look like an alchy last season and the season before:

Bad news is he went out and got smashed during the international break.

Good news is he only had 15 drinks so should be ok by next week.

    Troy's words in The Times:

“I wasn’t happy with how I was last year. I felt heavy. I got injured seven days into pre-season. I got fit, but Stefano Okaka was flying and we had bought Andre Gray and I had gone from being the main man to being third choice. When I did play, I was chasing here, there and everywhere and doing too much. There was the uncertainty with Marco Silva, where he was trying to implement certain things but then we as a group, myself included, were thinking, ‘But you don’t want to be here . . .’ There were a lot of factors, but people were writing me off and I started doubting myself. As a kid, at 18, 19, you think footballers are finished when they turn 30. I’m thinking back to that and thinking, ‘Maybe I am getting too old.’ ”

None of this is true. Okaka scored in the first game then was dropped from the squad for about three months. And Deeney certainly wasn't doing too much running when he did play, he wasn't doing much at all. He mentioned on the 5Live show this week that last season he was averaging about 8km per game and this year he's doing 10km. I wonder if he even remembers what he's said before half the time.

I'm assuming that's just omission. There's plenty of praise heaped on Javi elsewhere and I'm sure that a quote, taken out of context like this is for an agenda. You know yourself better than to read a media report on WFC and take it at face value.

The whole atmosphere around the club, the training ground and the players looks as good as I've seen it since the great man in the sky was in charge. I'm sure Deeney will confirm Javi's status in other interviews.

If Deeney wants Javi out, Javi will be sacked by Xmas. GUARANTEED.

    What Troy wants, Troy gets.

Id say Gracia needs 9 points from next 4 games , otherwise Gino will be getting itchy fingers again.

"Come up to my office and see me please....ahh please come in....KABOOM. Go get your fxcking shinebox Javi"
