That's a bit harsh. To be fair what we had been subjected to for most of the season was watered down football despite the injury list. Tonight they showed they can play as a team and I feel maz had something to do with that. One swallow doesn't make a summer but it's nice to feel positive.

    Hear hear

I expect the answer will be 'that's the football I've been saying we should play all season' or 'I said if we won these two games Walter might survive the sack'

When in fact Walter has simply shown what he can do when he has pacy attacking options on the pitch and on the bench - and not in the treatment room. Add two great signings in Niang and Cleverley - and we're golden.

They might as well support bloody Arsenal

    Agreed.

A bit off topic but has anyone else seen the huge argument that Mazzarri had with his own assistant goalkeeper coach... Hopefully there isn't any internal changing room problems within the club. That is the last thing we need... Watford to turn into an Arsenal-like divided team

At the end of the day, we must cherish what is a good victory and forget about the poor results we have faced in the past. The whinging and moaning has to be conserved for the future or there will never be a moment on this forum where there isn't arguments.

    During the game?

They all get so wound up it wouldn't surprise me if there were rows and disputes.

Poor 4th official had about 9 coaches and managers on the touchline pointing and shouting at each other!

Yet they all seemed to shake hands at the end...

Agreed, tonight is to be enjoyed. At the end of the day, whatever side of the fence people were on, all people wanted was what they felt was best for the club. Most of the season I've tried to remain relatively level headed believing we are a classic lower mid table team and just as I've lost faith (e.g after Millwall) we pull a couple of results out of the hat

To be fair for most of the season from the game at Burnley with a couple of exceptions we've been poor, directionless and passionless. Tonight goes to show that if you go for it and play football properly we will get results and the fans will appreciate Walter, tonight shows that we have the personnel to do it, so why haven't we been playing like we have on a more regular basis? If we'd played like that for most of the season we'd be on at least a similar number of points as WBA.

If we can play like that from now on until the end of the season, I'd quite happily have him here next season on the premise that it would continue that way. But the fans' frustrations over the last few months were more than justified even with some of the injury issues.

Getting in from the game this was being played out on Sky Sports with Alan Curbishley. What preceded the run in with Paolo De Toffol, the GK coach, was infinitely more serious - Walter seemingly losing his temper and shouting and pointing at technical director Fillipo Giraldi. If that is what it appeared, thats career suicide for WM. Giraldi didn't overreact and seemed to tell Mazzarri to calm down. Thats when De Toffol took Walter aside (to protect Giraldi) and thats why it kicked off between them.

In the post match Sky interview, WM was referencing the hostility and bad behaviour by Pulis and his goons which occurred when McLean got Pererya sent off when we on the verge of getting back to 2-2 - which Mazzarri hasn't forgotten. Good for Walter if thats the case, IMO.

Mmm, I wasn't asking you though, Mr Talk, and there's a reason for that. You didn't post this thread, and that's the actual point of what you quoted there, isn't it, rather than what's implied when it's taken on its own, devoid of context.

One of the few things to fall right for us lately was to face Sunderland followed by West Brom, and not the other way round

Walter can take credit tonight for an excellent performance against a West Brom side who have not won away in 2017. He is statistically our second best Premiership manager/head coach in terms of points secured in a season. He has the best squad of players in our history, and will deserve our respect if he coaches the side to surpassing last seasons points total. Overall though I think a better coach would have achieved more to date with the playing resources available this season. So I would not be surprised or upset if he left this summer.

People just need to learn to remain calm.

There have been too many crazy predictions on here, that we wouldn't get a win for the rest of the season, or that Walt had a match to save his job.

We've been safe for a while now. We have so many teams below us, and only one or two tend to win on a given weekend.

Football also is entirely unpredictable and upsets happen all the time - lower league clubs even beat Premier League teams every year, let alone out of form EPL sides. We were very likely to pick up 2 wins, even if we were playing badly.

On the other hand, we've only played very well for two games recently. This doesn't answer all the questions about Walt. It doesn't suddenly show that our set up is perfect. But it suggests that we need to give managers more time, especially ones who have forced to constantly re-jig the team through injuries, before making rash decisions. You need consistency to create a fluid style of play.

We'll give our verdict at the end of the season. Now we've hit a bit of form and can relax a bit, we should focus on trying to upset the big boys. The rest of the season, with the pressure off, might be a little more fun.

Mazzarri actually answered in English in the post match interview. It was only the first answer but it shows he is taking to the language and he has always said he answers in Italian to give clear answers. I know it's easier when we are winning but I really like mazzarri after last night. We played decent football with a nice balanced team and his passion and aggression showed on the bench when we went down to 10 men. It looked like everyone gave a **** last night and IMO that's the most important thing

Otter has got it smack on

KD, i'll agree but having injuries doesn't dictate his style of football. Although he has had a threadbare squad at times, what they practise on the training field dictates play.

If we can play passing football like that last night, then we have been capable of playing football like that every week.

Exactly, so having a different squad every week in training because of injuries can't be helpful to get across the way he wants to play. It all takes time and consistency, now we have a little of the latter he should be given the former to fully implement his ideas. He's a good manager and we have a good side, he can't click his fingers and change things, we're seeing the proof of that in the last 2 games.

You've got to remember, we had bloody Guedioura playing half the season.

Before you ejaculate over your sticky pictures of WM, the performance was better compared to most this season, but that doesn't say much given the dross we've been served up most of the time. We won, which is good and we are 9th and probably safe. But safe to do what? Play another season of boringly ultra-defensive football in which we get a few wins here and there and occasional excitement? If you're happy with that, fine, but I'm not.

I want to be entertained, to be excited. We put in a battling performance tonight and deserved to win against a dirty West Brom side. But that still doesn't mask the problems, most of which are not injury-related. Take the first 10 minutes for example, stats will tell us we dominated possession but we didn't do a single thing with it apart from pass it around the back, get close to the halfway line, sense the slightest whiff of a challenge, check & pass it back again. It makes Ray 'The Crab' Wilkins-era England look like 70s Brazil! Every game someone gets caught out and gives the opposition a chance - Given the opportunity I think we'd prefer to pass it around behind the goal like they do in ice hockey!

Lower-mid table boredom isn't for me. Every game we chant GT's name in the 72nd minute - he should be our benchmark, risking defeat to win rather than risking nothing to not lose. We've got the quality, it's just so frustrating that we don't use the potential. Don't get me wrong, last night was promising, enjoyable in parts and I hope we build on it. I'm cautiously optimistic, no more.

You can carry on with your WM 'wink' fest now. Sorry to interrupt.

I think Walter has decided that rather than loose the dressing room.. he will fight it out with them in public! Fun to watch while being a tad embarrassing at the same time.

Patiently waiting for the injury crisis to ease. You?

And let's not forget the most important role in mazzarri's system is the pereyra/zarate position. A position that has barely been filled all season.

And yet we are still 9th in the table and 10 points off relegation.

B-b-b-b-but he doesnt speak english in the telly interviews!

B-b-b-b-but he doesnt clap the ******ous drooling fans!

I just don't know. I mean, what changed last night? Why suddenly play differently in this and the most part of Sunderland.

Was it Mazzarri's tactics or the players attitude? Did he somehow get them interested for a game? Did they all just suddenly remember how to kick a ball to their own team member? Or chase back? Or have a bit of passion?

Did Walter really make this happen? Can we really attach this win to some great tactics and some inspired words from him in the dressing room?

    I just don't get it.

I just don't get this season at all. We are so up and down in performance levels and it's not normal.

    Injuries scminjuries.

Has something drastically changed since that completely dire performance at Palace?

Call me a skeptic but I'm not buying it just yet that Mazzarri is the one responsible for suddenly turning this team around.

It's funny because the Walter in brigade went very quiet after our defeat to Palace (apart from Clive tbf - though he was starting to even think Walter should go). Even funnier because you act as if we should be annoyed about Mazzari getting two wins on the trot. You'll find that we are more than happy to be proved wrong... you ******.

The last two wins only proves what a lot of our fans were saying too. If we actually take the games to teams, we look far far better. His negativity in games, coupled with the fact that we knew we had a decent attacking team, was the thing that infuriated a lot of people. Maybe, and hopefully, he is starting to realise this. I guess what I'm trying to say is, why haven't we been doing this all the time if we clearly are better for it?

Anyways, back to my main point, shut up ya pr*ck :)
