My son's flat mate is, at this very moment, locked in a Westminster lavatory - hiding from a Times lobby hack! What larks!
Grim irony that the treatment he so urgently needed to dip into campaign funds for wasn’t easily available on the NHS.
I'm not sure it would be appropriate to broadcast the sorry (but very funny) tale I've been told. But here are some of the key phrases to look out for in future media coverage... Rough sex Chelsea flat April 15th Cash Drove from Blackpool Colombian finance minister Known since December Bank documents "I'm sorry but Mark's tied up at the moment"
have to say, its seems like a lot of bloody effort for 5 or 6 grand Could have made a lot more with a few pictures and sold them to the scummy sun.
Phew, I was worried that they would have problems getting their "WorkStart" plans in order for that first interview at the Dole Office: Outgoing Tory MPs take lucrative second jobs and ‘swan off on jollies’ Sixty four Tories and four independent MPs who lost party whip plan to stand down from the Commons amid dire polling for Conservatives
I have to take issue with the article’s controversial claim that Tory MPs have ‘taken their eyes off the day job.’ This comes dangerously close to implying that these wasters once had proper focus on it. Geoffrey Cox anyone?
Mark Menzies proclaiming his integrity to the world by resigning. Not now, of course, but at some unspecified time in the next seven months. Brave decision. Former Tory MP Mark Menzies quits amid claims he misused party funds MP for Fylde announces he is resigning from the Conservative party and will not stand at next general election
This infuriates me. His basically walking away from the Tories to save their face. He knows full well that anything handed over to the Police will take more than 6 months to investigate and it will all be swept away from the public eye when it finally all comes out. Labour are just as bad on this sort of thing, well apart from the money and alleged "bad People" bit. Why won't they say what the reasons for disciplining Nick Brown ( https://www.theguardian.com/politic...ns-labour-complete-farce-disciplinary-process) These are all elected public servants, we should be aware, once any legal or police investigation is over, of the circumstances around any issues like this.
Misuse of money, was any of it public money?, alleged kidnap, exploiting his former employee out of savings.... Unfortunately him stepping down from the Tories, not standing at the next election and some of thi being investigated, means we are very very unlikely to ever hear any more about it.
No public money He didn't report his kidnapping to plod Borrowed money from a colleague. If he doesn't pay it back it would be a civil matter I'd imagine. He'll no longer be an MP and as he's not a wealthy man no doubt faces a very bleak future. I think its hard not to feel a little sympathy for anyone that gets in to this kind of mess - only a little though
If his claiming that his been locked up in a flat while bad people have demanded money from him, then surely that's Kidnap as well as 3 or 4 other possible offences. Whether he reports it or not, now that its in the public domain then its likely to be looked at. If he possibly, or probably, made it all up to pay his "friend's" then i'm sure he'll be done for theft in some way.
But if he - or anyone else doesn't wish to press changes surely then plod won't get involved? I just can't see what crime has been committed. Having said that, you may be right. There is only one way to settle this kind of dispute - call upon our Mr Keighley - one of the finest legal minds of his generation for guidance. @Keighley are you there?
I think it would probably need him to report it, especially as it didn't come to the attention of the police at the time. There's no reason why they couldn't get involved but ultimately there's enough crimes with actual victims they don't have capacity to investigate, let alone ones that don't.
In order to see some semblance of justice in this matter, the great British public will either need Menzies' paid Brazilian escort to pipe up (own jokes here please...) or rely on the RSPCA to get the dog plied with alcohol allegedly by our wonky, soon to be, ex-MP to let Rover off the leash in order to collar the reprobate.
Rishi Sunak has suggested he will not “shy away” from further public spending cuts to boost defence spending as he faced questions over how the policy will be funded. He said the plan would not affect the government’s ability to cut taxes and was the “right thing to do” in an increasingly dangerous world. Grrrrreat! Personally I think I'm in way more danger from decrepit health services and poverty-related maladies than old Vlad Putin. Now they want to cut even more so they can buy more bombs and bullets. Still tax cuts will be safe.
The defence spending increases will cost at least £6 billion. There is no way that can be paid for, in the short term at least, without cuts. Nevertheless, Labour will now be hounded by the press until it meets that pledge or be accused of letting Vlad ride his tanks up Windsor High Street.
Former Health Minister, Dan Poulter, defects from the Tories to Labour over ‘chaos’ in the NHS and because the Tories have ‘become a nationalist party of the Right.’ Maybe Sunak can win over the party members with his ‘real conservative’ credentials after all. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68913287
"...over ‘chaos’ in the opinion polls and because the Tories have ‘become a unpopular party likely to be soundly defeated."
brave man m8 he was only a tory mp 4 a mere, checks wiki, 14 years, while working as a nhs clinician before seeing the light
This is a genuine problem. It may be good politics to encourage Tory defection, but this idiot voted for Boris, sewage, Rwanda, you name it. Fortunately, he’s not standing at the next GE but it does encourage the ‘they’re all the same’ merchants.
