I emphasise some. I’m sure we have some faithful friendly servants of the club but the person I encountered today was very rude. I can’t remember the last time I had been ordered rudely to do something. I’ve taken his number and will be seeking a response from the club. Why are we letting this happen. Nightclub bouncers with not a bone of politeness policing a traditionally passive group of peaceful mainly old people and children. Why so many of them? I am disgusted
Everything seeps down from the top. Look at the attitude of the computer says no jobsworths that Duxbury put out to discuss the issue with fans recently. We are a revolting club. GT would vomit if he saw it. Elton probably does. Pozzo has stolen the very fibre of our club.
It's disgusting how the stewards have taken on an almost dictator role at this club. Their job is crowd and player safety first and foremost. If they overstep that, or are rude and OTT for reason they should be reported. We all saw what happened last season (in ironically the same fixture) when it was like rows of orange surrounding the rookery and EJ stands. This message must of come from you know who. He must be trying his best to prevent an all out protest, and is perhaps giving stewards a bit too much power in their jobs. I would certainly follow through with your threat, and if need be take it higher than the club. Just another reason among so many that Gino has lost touch with this club and the fanbase.
I now smear myself in sh1t. I’ve not been patted down since I’ve tried out my little trick. I get an entire row to myself as well, so no kids waving flags in my face is a nice little bonus.
Letters to the club don't work. Discussions at fans events achieve nothing. The stewards are out of control and running amok taking our flasks, removing the tops of our fizzy pop bottles, asking to see inside ladies handbags. It's time to stand up against the stewarding menace. Time to start fighting back. We need to up the ante. I propose taking a steward hostage at the next home game
I have no idea who convinced football clubs that they needed an army of bored students in blue vests bused in for every mid table Championship home game but they are a money making genius. It's completely bonkers. How many of them are there at every game? Quite aside from the fact that their attendance is completely disproportionate to any risk faced, if something were to kick off they are quite obviously not equipped to deal with it (and nor should they even try for the minimum wage they're no doubt on).
I swear it used to be old git and about 2 others for the whole ground. Now every door or staircase needs a bouncer, each stand a further 10, every turnstile 4 of them it is crazy. this isn’t millwall or Leeds in a local derby it’s a nothing mid table clash with no history of trouble
I just get waved through these days , they must look at me and think to themselves "bless" I've even resorted to wearing a Peacock Gymn t-shirt but to no avail. No pat down .
I like the West Ham set up. They have the minimum wage bods in hi-viz who just administer things but if it really kicks off there are an “elite” black clad special forces group who steam into action. And apparently these chaps are more excited about the action than the hooligans.
Confronted a steward in the Rookery about their behaviour last season and was told “don’t blame us, we’re just doing what your directors tell us to do” Supposedly some of the more senior stewards are given instructions through an ear piece during games…
It’s not even all about it kicking off. Most of them look like they wouldn’t have a clue to do if there was a proper emergency. In fact they’d probably be first in the rush to get away.
If you want to truly cause a riot, take a couple of flasks in with you and make sure they know about it!
Was it Sheffield United in the first game of last season where there was a medical issue in the away end which the stewards ignored until a Watford fan ran on to the pitch to make a point about it? Luckily the woman involved was ok in the end if memory serves
They seemed more relaxed than ever today - all stood like goons but said no searches necessary today and waved everyone straight in.
I still enjoy the site of the stewards migrating down to sit in front of the stands just before full time, there to protect the players from the hordes of kids with their "can I scrounge your shirt" banners
Usually the stewards are itching to search you, with one once questioning what my asthma inhaler was and why it was in my pocket…. But yesterday I was waved straight through to the GT stand- no searching involved. And from what I could see I wasn’t the only one either. Very odd
There was a general email sent out to all staff to be more relaxed yesterday, hence no searching at the turnstiles and the timid display on the pitch!
Wasn't this in the email from Scott to fans the other day? I got my bag checked but no pat down yesterday.
Certainly didnt seem that way to me in the Rookery. Searching everyone on the way in when I entered. I dont really have much of a problem with that though The incredible rudeness of the staff member on the staircase turns me off attending again if Im honest. It didnt feel welcoming or polite at all. On the other hand staff on the food/drink kiosks seemed friendly and competent which is a good change
