This is an antidote to the usual Xmas Muzak we are bombarded with at this time of year. Firstly, Half Man Half Biscuit's It's Cliched To Be Cynical At Christmas (John Peel 21st Dec 1999) and secondly, The Mighty Fall, Hark the Herald Angels Sing (Live, John Peel Session #18, 17/12/94) This was turned into a brilliant fake Woolies Xmas Advert:
Focus - Sylvia / Hocus Pocus - Live at BBC TV Old Grey Whistle Test 1972 (Remastered) Xmas/New Year Variation
Not necessarily an Xmas song but broadcast over Xmas 1972. Focus - Anonymous Two (Old Grey Whistle Test, December 1972)
David Gedge is such a nice bloke. Always been very approachable and chatty. Some fantastic Rhythm Guitar noises too.
Here's this the other day on the radio. Twas exceptionally terrible. Radio 2 have made a conscious effort to play some more obscure Xmas tunes this year. British Biased Corporation. Woke Beeeb etc
@reg_varney answer was, it was written for her with lyrics, but she thought that version was prog pants. A few years later they recorded it as an instrumental and named it after her.
How about Chris Rea's other Christmas song 'Joys of Christmas' which is about northerners getting pi55ed up and fighting each other - much more enjoyable than the driving one!
