Fair comment, I'll wind my neck in until they add 'looking horrendously uncomfortable on the left of a back three that gets attacked down that side' into their algorithm!
Utterly appalling performance. Cardiff should have scored from his first error and instead of improving he compounds the mistakes. Shouting and hollering at others just doesn't cut it sunshine. Look at your positioning under the ball and your slowness to react. Disgraceful. Another probably on a fat contract who knows he'll get paid for doing very little to earn it. Utter turd.
Bit odd that just this thread gets bumped for this when Porteous has put in 3 similar performances to that in a row for us prior. I'm aware Porteous is new to the league and still has time to improve, but he's been at least as bad lately.
Porteous is going to have a much better career than Hoedt. The former has desire, talent and an opportunity to improve. Hoedt is very poor. A poor defender, poor passer of the ball, poor anttitude to his team mates and was found out before at Southampton. I would get rid in the summer.
He hasn’t got the pace to recover and so gets caught out easily. Usually better at heading or getting a foot in but clearly not tonight .
Hoedt is more towards the tail end of his career - but you're aware that in Hoedt's career he's already made 5 appearances in the Champion's League and 8 appearances in the Europa League for Lazio. He's also had 41 starts for Southampton in the Premier League. You think Porteous will have "much better" than those numbers?
Channeling my inner lowerrous. Not as a dig to those I replied to, more of an arrogant I told you so. I and a few others did state the obvious. Hoedt is crap!
Clearly not the right personality for this squad neither, which I'd almost forgive if he were the second coming of Fillipo Galli, but he plainly isn't...
Unbelievably poor game v Cardiff and looks less suited to a back 4 than a back 3. But I think he's still fine for this level and we're leaving the defence hung out to dry too often, also mixed with a meek goalkeeper in Bachmann.
https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/23730174.dutch-defender-revelling-watfords-new-style-play/ Good interview, this.
Piss poor defending for the first and then almost handed them a third goal. Utter crap. I hope you read this Wesley. We'd be better off having Wesley Craven in defence. You're not Ruud Krol. You're just Utter Crap. Take your billy big bollox attitude and take it somewhere else.
I think you also need to question why he was not paying attention to the scorer of the 2nd. Instead of just standing in the middle of a big space watching the game.
No idea why we signed this clown in the first place!! Every club that he played for all the said same thing about him! He's is utter wa*k.
Switches off too often, probably dreaming about his girlfriend. Fair play, I don't blame him one bit. Carry on being gorgeous Wes.
Like we wasn't expecting this? He's always been a liability. Porteous has been shocking for ages too. Add the poorest DM I've seen for ages and it's not shocking to see these results.
Largely untroubled in defence (there was one occasion in the second half where they should have scored, not sure if that were his fault of Porteous's, if either), but my God some of his passing was bad. Got away with it today, but maybe won't next time...
To be fair I wouldn’t even know where to start. Hoedt is really poor but so is the entire defence line, the keeper, the midfield and the attack. And that’s our first team. God knows what level we drop to with a few injuries worst recruitment under Pozzos…
He’s the best passer we’ve got at the back. Porteous and Ngakia can’t seem to play simple passes of any kind with any consistency and Lewis just plays like moving his leg to do something is too close to looking like he gives a feck. It’s Hoedt who’s playing the long switch passes out wide and seems to find his target pretty regularly. That’s something a centre mid should be dropping deep to do, like a Capoue or Hughes, but Louza seemingly can’t be bothered. Yeah, there were a couple of times yesterday he played the ball straight out but they were frustrating rather than presenting any dangerous moment that Sheff Weds could exploit. The bigger issue with Hoedt is he gets out muscled far too easily. Two or three times in the second half he got turned by a Sheff Weds player who just eased him out of the way with fairly little effort and as a result immediately got in behind us.
He’s a very important player in this current team, but there’s no doubt his form has dropped recently and he is making too many mistakes. Without adequate cover, we can’t really afford to drop him, even though I think it would do him some good. This is why we need to sign a left sided CB in January, along with a busload of other players.
Unfortunately left-footed CBs are at a premium, especially those that are decent on the ball. Anyone who springs to mind as a possible option for January?
I think it’s unlikely we’ll sign a LCB in January, although Troost was at the match yesterday!! Even though he’s not left sided, I like his attitude as a player and I think he’d do well in the current group.
