I don't understand how people are saying on the one hand, we need several windows to rebuild the squad, yet on the other hand, defend short term, stop gap, sloppy signings like this. This is not squad building. It's pathetic.
One does not exclude another. You can sign short term plugs whilst filling in more urgent positions and then fill in those short term plugs after that when cashflow from income allows. So long as a majority of starting and immediate depth is not a stop gap solution then it's reasonable when working on a smaller budget. Livermore is not a starting player but likely a regular bench option to see out games and for cup games. The concern would come if any of the short term plugs then become medium term, such as Cleverley, Cathcart and others having been unfit / unsuitable for the squad needs the last 2-3 years but not being replaced until they couldn’t ignore it anymore because the players were physically breaking down. That's when the concept squad building goes out the window because it means that the longer term planning has failed.
Right, so a squad which has needed work for 8 windows, continues to need work because we don't actually build, we just bring in stop gaps. But we are confident that next window, or the window after that, or the one after that, that's when we will finally start to actually rebuild. I despair. I truly do.
For those constantly stating we've got so much debt and we can't spend because of that.......here's what our transfer trading has been since 2020. Transfer fees received: £217m Transfer fees spent: £48m That's a net of £168m profit in the last 3 years.....yet we're still f***ed. Why is that? Where is all this money going? We've been in the Premier League for 7 of the Pozzo's 11 years at the club, yet we still have massive debts. Forget this debt free by 2024 tag. We still owe Gino millions. Gross mismanagement of club funds, yet Duxbury receives nearly a £1m per year for doing the accounts.
I'm happy with the Livermore deal. That gives us one midfielder who can actually tackle. It's not if he's a nailed on starter and he's proved that he must be still capable during training.
TBH I don't even give a **** anymore. Livermore will do eff all for us and people will still try and pick sweetcorn out of the turd to prove it was a good signing. Our squad is appalling. People are forgetting just how poor we were for much of last season and we are now significantly weaker. I'll still post because I get bored and because of Bargain Hunt, but I want to try and remove myself from caring about a club which is utterly ****ed and which clearly doesn't care about me as a fan.
There were plenty of more squads last season who were considerably worse and finished above us. If VI gets them playing as a team and fighting for one another I will be happy. This will see an improvement on the position we ended last season.
From what I’ve been told, I think we structure most purchases to pay in instalments (as is normal), but often insist on getting most of the fee paid upfront when selling. So while these figures may be correct in terms of financial packages ‘agreed’ for ins/outs over the last 3 years, I expect our actual outgoings will be much higher (a proportion of the Sarr fee, for example) while incomings may not be a great deal more. Wages also need taking into account. We’re not a big club with huge sponsorship deals, so money for wages has to come from elsewhere. Being outside of the PL for 2 of the last 3 seasons whilst retaining some PL players will have been a big drain on resources and I’m sure some sales will purely fill that hole.
Sure. This middling manager who's achieved **** all in his career to date is the answer, when Ranieri, Hodgson, Bilic etc. etc. were not. Keep buying the grift from the club.
I don't buy anything the club say and have said. But I'm certainly not going to write off someone without giving them a chance. I will stay quietly confident on my own.
Well said Moog That sums up my own feelings toward the club ,Ill just add when they they start caring about us the fans a bit more I might take more of an interest , for now I dont care about football or for that matter sport.
He's 5hite. Hopefully he's not going to be starting any league games though! But that would also probably mean we can't have Sierralta filling in at CB when needed.
I'm not sure how anyone can justify this signing, he was finished at Championship level last season. He's next to useless in a high energy team, we may as well play with ten men. He's also backup to a guy who has never played in midfield before. What is the point of a 'rebuild' if you're signing a 33 year old who isn't capable of displacing a guy who was a pre-season experiment?
I’m sure you’ll find plenty of fans doing their backflips in justifying what a good signing he is…….but it’s another poor one. Livermore, Healey and Ince have so far proven to have been a total waste of time.
Well we don’t know about the last 2 really but isn’t great one doesn’t play and the other only just fit . When will they get a chance ?
Healey is either not fit or Ismaël doesn’t rate him and I think it’s the later. Ince is unfit and off the pace. He might come good, but I think he’ll be a bit part player at best.
Think Healey and Ince deserve more time to prove themselves if Ismael fancies them (they've had about half an hour on the pitch combined so far!), but we ain't gonna see much from Livermore
Let's set the rules young man. If a player is signed by the Pozzo gummies and if not able to play for 6 months its because managers are useless. If you are critical of the idiot owner, then you will be "lol"d at, because you havent given the signing a chance (see Kalu). "Forum LOL!" If subsequently, player is released at huge loss to the club, then pretend all of the above never happened.
Make whatever comment you like, I just think it's a little early to call signings a 'total waste of time' when we're...3 games into a season.
I said “Livermore, Healey and Ince have so far proven to have been a total waste of time.” Please quote in context.
Not sure what game people were watching, I thought Livermore bossed it. The little pirouette before his hat trick strike was mind blowing. I was pretty drunk but I obviously saw yesterday differently to most.
And imo that's as useful as saying a player has had 'a poor game so far', 5 minutes into a game, when they've only been passed the ball once.
