I've not watched any of his clips but agree that his overall stats are pretty underwhelming considering the quality of the league. Decent goal return, but worried about the xG overperformance again considering the jump in quality of goalkeepers he'll likely face if this ends up happening.
All the hype, now it’s died down. News doesn’t normally break until 24-72 hours later. So if this was happening my opinion is that there would be more news about it now. There isn’t. My guess is that we made that offer over the weekend, it got rejected, and we’ve moved on. Right now the news is up to the offer part. By the end of the week reports of it being rejected will materialize. Obviously I could be completely wrong, but that’s what I think.
The jump in quality may be a problem, from the clips I saw there was definitely more time on the ball than he would have in the Championship. However, a loan with an option to buy rather than an obligation is worth the risk I feel. We need bodies in even as options.
I’d love a proper thundercunt merchant in our side. Few things in football beat the sight of a ball flying into the top corner from distance, and even if he’s actually crap, the prospect of this happening a couple of times is enough to get me on board.
We dont have £850,000 to splash on a one year loanee that may or may not work out so we can pay £4.5m we probably wont have in a years time.
He’s likely to be out for part of the season whilst the police question him about his ‘downtime’ activities.
It’s a reasonable deal structure (depending on the terms of the payment next year, ie obligation or option or obligation if promoted) for a player valued at £5m or so. Whether Luis Palma is worth that I don’t know but the deal structure makes good sense to me.
Personally I've never heard of him. But if we're shelling out money I wish we were looking at Benie Traore at BK Hacken. 12 goals 2 assists in 14 games. Honestly he's nowhere near the finished article but he's a joy to watch play. Only 20 and is destined for stardom.
We are broke. We don't have the money to buy any decent players. We can't even stretch to £2m, this amount is out of reach for us. So far, One free transfer, one free agent and one player for 50k. My guess is this why we will release/sell Okoye. We cannot afford any add on to his initial fee. We can only shop at the Football Food Bank. This where we are as a club.
I'm not totally sure that they can't find money to spend if they think it's worth it. A big part of their strategy was about trying to buy to sell on a profit. I don't think they will be able to resist that instinct if they feel there is a good enough gamble. I'm not saying this is necessarily the wise course of action but I wouldn't be surprised if we splashed a few million.
So far we have signed a loan from our sister club, a free in Healey who is unproven in the Champo, Tom Ince for £50,000 and we have a trialist in Jake Livermore who to be fair is past it. These facts dont really make me think we have lots of money to throw around. If we had decent funds we would have gone and spent a chunk of it by now as ideally you want to get business done early so the players get a decent pre season with the manager/head coach. As things stand I cant see this squad getting much higher than mid table but I dont see us being in the relegation mix either.
Or if it gets even worse, Gino and Dux will be doing the football version of what the American's call "Dumpster Diving".
Depends on how we start. If we have a bad August/September for whatever reason and we sit in the bottom three then we are looking to see even then if this squad can get themselves up for a scrap. If their heads drop, if we go 1-0 down at home to QPR then that could be pretty telling even then. I do not think a relegation fight is beyond us, and unless VI is able to get rid of the lacklusture mentality of last season from the dressing room and get this lot fighting for the shirt, that is exactly where we will be. Obviously I hope to be proven wrong, but we have seen early signs of promise before it all comes crashing back down.
That’s one set of facts, here is another: Last year we purchased 3 players for fees in excess of £2m (Kone, Bayo, Ferreira) We recently made the most expensive sale ever by a club in the Championship and not just relegated. Last year we agreed two deals that employed this sort of structure (Choudhury/Davis). The players we have been linked with by reputable journalists would have cost some money (Styles, Cho) Ben Manga was quoted in Jan in the German media saying he likes to buy players in the £2-5m range and will be seeking to do that with us. I don’t think we’re going to spend mountains of money by any means but I don’t think we’re going to sign 2 or 3 players for fees similar to that reported for Palma (I.e. £2-5m with more scope to go higher if utilising an option or promotion based obligation structure) The fact that Martins, Healey and Ince are the only players to arrive merely shows (in my eyes) that those deals were the easiest to get done quickly.
I find it difficult to get too excited about this guy on the basis of the standard of the league that he currently plays in and the data of his performances in that league. Anyone can put together a pretty highlights video.
Sorry to rain on everyone’s parade but I’ve been told that this is media talk again. Hope the information I have is wrong but yeah appears it’s another one like the Korean
