If someone tells you that for some reason we don’t want to pay £2m for Styles, you have to believe them
Would be amazed if that's true unless Man Utd decided to pay far more than they were required to out of the goodness of their heart.
I think the £2 million is based on how his future career pans out and is based on the compensation rules.
So VI needs players to suit his style. Styles fits perfectly. We've been led to believe Ubenga has the final say. If he did I'm sure he would okay it. Are we actually going to help our incumbent manager or continue as in the past to hamper their efforts to get the side promoted ? I can see Gino know bean counting. Cheap free transfer who will do the team no favours over spending a million or so more on someone who will make a big difference to the side and help VI bring over the dressing room.
I can see us losing the battle with Styles over this fee, then getting one off Bayat's trash heap and paying £5M. £2M for the player and £3M for Bayat for the agent fee. Gino does business properly.
So now we've got a bit of dosh in for Sarr, WTE etc, can we see any movement on this? Or is it about as dead in the water as Okoye's chances of being our #1?
Wouldn't be too upset if it doesn't happen now that we have a LB, but equally, I wouldn't be too surprised if we go back in for him and use him as a midfielder
Genuine questions and maybe @reids can answer this? Could Styles be signed to play the DM role? Not sure if he fits stylistically, but do his stats suggest he would be an effective DM?
Or he could have a stellar season and we could immediately flip him for a profit (a la Bayo for Bayat's team).
No but wages. There may even have been a loan fee involved. We’re playing with fire if we had to pay his bus fare to get to London Colney.
Not that useful really, that's one of my biggest bugbears about SB - if it's tracking where someones playing and can accurately say how many mins they've played in each position then they should be able to create separate radars for each position. But they don't - so all his stats are lumped into one radar which doesn't make much sense to look at when he's played so many mins at RW, LWB and DM as the requirements for each position are so different.
From what I've seen of him I don't think he would fit stylistically. All the DMs we were linked with seemed big destroyer types, and Sierralta is the same. Styles isn't that. It's not an ideal comparison as it shows all his roles rolled in to one, but fbref data also points to his defensive stats being fine but not great. https://fbref.com/en/players/e96d5560/Callum-Styles I have questioned why so many assumed he'd be a priority target for us, especially given we seem to more be playing with a LB rather than LWB. And regardless I prefer Lewis. If we're keeping at least 2 out of Louza, Kone and Kayembe then I don't see we'd have any need for him in midfield either.
Looking at the edit history it looks like it said he played for Real Madrid yesterday. Worrying if true!
Lolz it never fails to make me laugh when people quote/screenshot these things from Wikipedia. I could go to his page and say that he's been sold to Wealdstone for £25 million, and until someone edits it out, it's in print and looks real.
More interestingly, he’s liking watford fans comments on instragram asking if he wants to come to the Vic… https://twitter.com/watford_fcnews/status/1688954269695717385?s=46&t=cMKcGgTVwTYulCqD35QKEw
