Sema is a very limited, but decently productive and very hardworking winger at this level. We're a mid table Championship club again, you'll be seeing a lot more Ken Sema-types on the pitch now. If you're expecting Pereyras and Deulofeus you'll be disappointed. Briggs is a bizarre comparison, as Chumlax points out. He has fewer goals and assists in his 12 year professional career (including seasons at L1/L2) than Sema got in the Championship last season.
The Watford announcement said he'll be wearing the famous yellow jersey. Has his contract absolved him from wearing this season's black-and-yellow abomination?
Honestly I just don't get the Sema love in, it's like he's only seen as good because the rest are so horrific. My comparisons for mid table Championship are Deeney and Vydra, so yes, I expect a serious ramp up in quality over Kings Clothes Ken.
Maybe - of all the issues in our squad he is probably one of the least problematic but yes isn’t going to be anything but a solid reliable player. Anyway hopefully we see the good side of Ince. Seems to have the talent as we have seen but not always the attitude or desire .
Deeney and Vydra are both strikers. The closest comparison to that team would probably be Anya, and the two are/were probably fairly similar in overall ability.
I don't think it's a love in by most, I think the average Watford fan just appreciates him for what he is. An effective Championship winger. Another strange comparison using players that spent the majority of their years in the PL, and when in the Championship, were usually at the top end of the league. As above, Anya is a much better comparison. Or Mark Yeates.
To be fair to Tom Ince anyone who grew up with his father as a role model would do well not to turn out a cocky 'orrible ****. However, he is now our cocky 'orrible **** so lets hope he does the business.
In the past few years we've lamented the mercenaries and tossers that have passed through our squad, so Ken stands out as someone who's likeable and tried hard. Not to say he's brilliant but his attitude seems spot on.
It always makes me cringe when players give it the 'big club' spiel when they sign, it's OK, we won't be offended if you don't say what a ginormous club we supposedly are...
Have you seen some of our fans? They get upset if the players don't come over and clap them and give them a reach around at the end of each game.
What is a little concerning is that he said he knows Dan Gosling and Ben Hamer from previous clubs so had a couple of mates to help him settle in. Dan Gosling?
Out of all our new or imminent signings Ince is the only one who.. Isn’t coming back off a potential career threatening injury (Healey, Chak, Wesley) Isn’t joining us after barely playing the last two years (Lewis) Or being written off by supporters of his former club as being totally past it (and most of ours too) (Livermore) Oh and the only one who cost a fee But ironically....we’ve not seen him yet You couldn’t make it up lol
He has a pre-existing condition that needs managing. So, still slots into the misfit basket quite nicely.
Anyone know why he wasn't even in the squad at the weekend? I get the impression he'd be the easiest player in the team to ship out in Jan and bring in an upgrade for. Aside from one good finish he's done nothing. He's tidy enough, but seems to lack pace and real cutting edge now. He's been a disappointment given some of his recent goal returns.
