Just what we need ! Another older full back maybe not suited to the league ? Louorn seems to rate him though . Not sure if that is a good/reliable thing or not ? Says he at least has some pace unlike Gaspar .
Link to this here: https://twitter.com/beniarroyo_/status/1666088180469334023?s=20 His agent was the one that posted he was at the training ground in early May, prompting some of our number to speculate whether we were after one of his prize young assets for about £8m... Transfer Talk & Suggestions | Page 338 | WFC Forums I suggested: Sort by contract end date June 2023, look for player that's played a bit of time in a Europe and will be a free transfer and Bob's your uncle! Bienvenido Pacha!
Been linked with Atleti and Sevilla. Meant to be really good and still performing at a high level. Think he’d be a better fit than Gaspar even though I too had that thought seeing a La Liga 30+ full back in a yellow shirt.
No idea about him but purely statistically: 35 apps for Cadiz (joint most) 4 assist (1st for Cadiz) 2.4 tackles per game (10th in La Liga) 1.3 interceptions per game (1st for Cadiz, 16th in La Liga) 1 key pass per game (6th for La Liga defenders, I think) Looks okay, although Kamara posted up similar stats in PL...
Probably need to calm our jets here, reports say he's open to staying at Cadiz but they need to up their new contract offer and he has other offers from La Liga clubs.
Espina played more minutes in the last two seasons (combined) than Gaspar had in the previous four. And yes, he won’t be coming here as he’ll be headed to a top 6 La Liga side
Correct me if I'm mistaken, but he appears to be very much a full-back, as opposed to a wing-back?! Which if he joins us would suggest either Ismael won't be going with his more regular formation, or we won't be signing players for our manager's preferred formation again.
He is listed as having primarily played at LB throughout his career but the question is surely more are his characteristics sufficient to be an Ismael LWB more than has he played there before. Seems to have a lot of intensity off the ball which is the main criterion.
He captained Cadiz for the end part of the season, so depending on his level of English, we might be considering bringing him in for his leadership in addition to any footballing ability.
Why are we linked if top 6 La Liga sides are after him? Surely got no chance of the guy picking us! Sounds like a decent player. Mind you knowing us we’ll find a way for him to be rubbish .
So you wouldn't want Carvajal, or Alaba? Surely we should be signing players based on their own merits, not missing out on a potentially good addition, just because we signed a player with a loosely similar profile previously?
They both played for teams in yellow too, so there's another similarity to add to the 'New Gaspar' narrative. Having done the standard five minute YouTube assessment, he's nothing like Gaspar. He's a little barrel that flies up down and the wing barging people out the way. Playing style reminded me more of Estupinan, albeit an older version.
Is this a serious question? Very obviously neither of these players would ever sign for us and seems a very extreme way of making your point. Re your second point, yes I totally agree and you’re right to say that - I fail to see what merits an aging Spanish fullback I’d say 90% of this forum have never heard of would have that would mean he’d be a good signing. Much like Gaspar. Unfortunately, he turned out to be a waste of a shirt number (apart from, in fairness, his excellent showing at Norwich). This sounds like another random Europunt, not a thought out or considered signing. If it happens of course.
Big difference here to gaspar. He has done at villareal barely played and was a bench/club captain like player (think deeney at the end). this fella is seen by his teams fans as their main man, they have offered a new deal, other Spanish sides want him and he played the most games for them last season. whilst I know sod all about him, these metrics to me give me more confidence that he’s a better bet than someone who had been frozen out.
Let's be honest here, you just made a bit of a lazy comparison. As it turns out, it seems this bloke is a very different player to Gaspar, and at a different stage in his career. Not every 31 year old will be on his last legs like Gaspar seems to be.
No, I questioned another random link to a player most of us have never heard of and likened him to a player of a similar profile we signed last summer. You can think differently if you’d like though.
And now, despite the mountain of evidence above that they're completely different players: -Espino still plays regularly, Gaspar didn't -Espino is a dynamic player with decent pace, Gaspar is more technical, with no pace whatsoever -Actual decent clubs want Espino, not the case for Gaspar you're still sticking to your guns, which were entirely based on his age, and the league he happens to be playing in? Fair play.
I get your point, I just think it was quite a silly or...pointless point to make. But yes, happy to leave it there.
You do realise they are not the same person. He might be streets better than Gaspar. Casetti was decent when he came as was in his thirties.
