Yes, he and Barry Davies were head and shoulders above today's commentators. Bloody Jonathan Pearce ....can't bear listening to him.
I can go one worse than him. Lawro. If you played Fifa 2000 back in the day he was co coms to Barry Davis, who wasn't too bad either. Dreadful commentator and pundit.
Stade de Reims used to be a powerhouse in French and European football. Then quietly disappeared until now making noises with their young English manager Will Still. This week saw the passing of French and Reims legend Just Fontaine. The joint record holder of most goals scored at a World Cup. There are many if's and but's in football particularly relating to how injuries and untimely tragedies affected the careers of players. Duncan Edwards for instance. Had Fontaine not suffered his injuries his career would have extended to the 62 and 66 World Cups. As it is his scoring record is remarkable. Reims reached the 1959 European Cup final only to lose to Real Madrid 2-0. The competition saw Wolverhampton Wanderers crash out in the first round to Schalke 04, Manchester United offered a place due to the Munich tragedy could not take it thanks to the Football League ordering them not to and Olympiakos refused to travel to Turkey understandably and thus exited. Not sure if this is the correct place for this? Very sadly I lost a very old friend today. Andy Morgan who I've been going to Watford with for over 25 years sadly lost his battle with cancer this morning. Not sure if anybody on here knew him but he used to go with Caspar, Rainbow amongst others and followed the club since the early GT years RIP mate, you will be sadly missed
Absolutely fine KGT. Sincerest condolences to his family and friends including yourself. They live on in your memories but it's just not the same. I think perhaps we ought to (not that it's going to be a light hearted thread or anything like that) have a memorial thread for supporters who have passed on. Most club forums do. It would be nice to remember them.
I'm on nodding terms with Casper (if it's the same person I'm thinking of) so it stands to reason I'll have at least seen Andy at some point - very sorry to hear this and hope you're doing ok TuT. RIP.
Caspar is quite a big chap who also followed England around. Last time I saw him he was walking with a stick
So sorry to hear that. I don't recall the name as its more their faces-I have been with Caspar a few times going back to Rochdale away in 1977 !-gate 1,200 Sincere condolences to you,his many other friends as well as Andy's family. RIP.
Are you talking about the same Casper as the Casper who was a door man at the Red Lion on match days?
John Hollins died aged 76. Before my time as a player but recognise the name . https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/article/john-hollins-mbe-1946-2023
He was a very good player and a fine chap, condolences to his family including Victoria (BBC Presenter and Chris ex BBC presenter) and friends. R.I.P. Sir!
A member of the first really glamorous football team I was aware of. It prompted me to have a soft spot for Chelsea for a while, although I later came to hate them mostly because of their fans and latterly, ownership. Oh, and John Terry. RIP John.

Craig Brown 1940-2023 A gentleman and character in his own right. A hero across the border for taking Scotland to the 1998 World Cup. Very knowledgeable about the game and capable of getting the best out of players with a stick and carrot approach but like all the best managers a peoples person. A sparkling and charming human being – football pays tribute to Craig Brown (msn.com)
Trevor Francis, the first £1m English transfer, has died of a heart attack in Spain. Trevor Francis: Ex-England player and Britain's first £1m footballer dies aged 69 - BBC Sport
I'm genuinely knocked sideways by this. I used to watch him at Birmingham City when I was a student up there and he was effectively the best young English player around. RIP
He even got his name in the theme tune to Only Fools and Horses. Make his mark in the world of football, and died too young.
He put his name to this and gave 9 year old Fuzzy73 hours of fun RIP Trev, you have been and always will be a legend in my eyes
RIP Trevor, you were a fine footballer and someone who lived life with dignity, I never heard a bad word said against you!
Former Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest player Chris Bart Williams also passed away today was only 49.
