Archer is more likely to be available on loan though, in which case there's no point in splashing out on him. We could potentially bring him on loan and have Bayo, Piroe and Archer to rotate between, which would great if it happened. Villa also still might want to keep him.
We should ask Villa at least. Could do a buy back option too if necessary. But the price they’d want would be a lot to pay for someone with 7 senior goals.
Much more preferable to just take him on loan, with an option to buy if possible, and then use the saved cash elsewhere.
Depends on a) whether we can get an option in there and b) what price the option would be and the differential between the option price and the price up front. But I broadly agree. Just not the biggest fan of ‘dry’ loans.
It’s a magic show fuelled by the media sycophants. The old “interested in Toney” = get Perica to keep the mugs onside.
We've made an offer on the chap from Swansea, we are linked to a guy that may got for north of £15m. I still can't my head around why we didn't sign Toney but these are actually positive signs for a change
We won’t sign them. We never do. We will low ball and move onto Bayat tat or Udinese loan. Feel free to quote back at me if I’m wrong
I wouldn't want to be putting all our eggs in this basket as Swansea seem quite certain they want a high fee we probably won't pay.
Hopefully I will get the chance. I am not saying these two players especially by the way, I mean players in their value bracket. Unfortunately Afobe has just become available again which may put a spanner in the works
Happy to agree any £7m domestic signing proves me wrong. Don’t think we can afford it and think it’s just lowball bids with no prospect of success spun by the Leventhal propaganda machine to soften the fans up when tat arrives. “they tried for Piroe and Lewis Potter. Give the owners a break”.
Experience says you are correct. We’ve had four or five years of this apparent flirting with domestic signings and not done it. Looking at the prices, it does make me wish that we could realise the fees on our players of value, terminate a few others and spend maybe half of that in reconstructing a team. The only hope is that the Championship rules work at least a little in our favour in inspiring a clear out.
I don't think we will be ripping anyone's contract up - I mean surely they would have done that to Danny Rose by now if they were.
No, but a few players seem to think they are above playing for us in the Championship and I can’t think of many I’d try hard to persuade to stay.
"The worry now is that with our stance of needing to sell to buy and clearly needing to strengthen the squad is that a deal could end up being done on the cheap. " Not totally implausible if that's the case. 'On the cheap' is our modus operandi.
Not much money?? Or less than the expected value. Bayat signings being the exception. Apart from Bayo have we spent any money on anyone yet this window?
We're not spending 20m on a player. I'm sure @Burnsy said we have no interest which I believe. Good player though.
Agreed about £20m. And if we do spend that (we won’t) it won’t be on Piroe who really hasn’t proven much at all so far. As for not being interested - that was true of the time when Leventhal was saying we were looking at him. We weren’t. Whether that’s changed or not recently, I don’t know.
Ok. I did read that Martin believes his head has gone due to speculation, could have something to do with his performances thus far. Personally like him, strikes the ball so cleanly but again no chance we spend 20m on a player. Can't honestly see half of that amount being spent overall.
He won't cost £20mil. LeedsOrn posted earlier in this thread that they were looking for £10-15mil, and unless a PL club comes in for him then it should be at the lower end of that; it very much sounds like they could do with making a sale. Could also be an excuse to try and maintain as much of an inflated fee for him as possible.
There's a reason I've been posting about Piroe in recent days - we're definitely watching the situation although I doubt bid unless Sarr and Pedro both leave. Would be closer to £10M, and that's + add ons etc.
He's entering the final year of his contract and will be sold by Swansea. I wonder if we'll try for him again? Replace one JP with another. Though he could well be out of our reach now.
Good player but could we even afford him let alone him wanting to come here. Spoke to a Palace fan today, unfortunately. He's saying Butland will definitely leave in the Summer. One year left on his contract. Hope we have a look at him.
