If Angelini has a good loan lined up then that's fine, it's better for him to play than sit on his backside for another year. Dahlberg is a lost cause, another kid we've f*cked over with random loans that showed we never had a plan for him. He was just another player to add to Gino's player trading network. A promising career down the pan, absolutely no resale value so Gino has whacked him on a longer deal and will try to recoup some loan fees. It's truly ghastly.
Going back a few years now but he had a run in the team in our first year back in the Prem when Kasper had an injury. Horrible left footed kicking technique, flappy when he came for crosses, punched and parried the simplest of balls. Just one of those keepers that gives you zero confidence. I doubt he’ll ever get near your first team obviously. I don’t get why clubs sign these players, it’s such a waste of money on wages when you’ve got youngsters. We’ve done it ourselves with Jakupovic for the last three or four years. I do remember him being a MASSIVE banter merchant though. Could be filling the Foster role. He tried giving Vardy some bantz before a penalty when he was at Huddersfield…. He was ignored, scored past and given a passive aggressive ruffle on the head.
Dahlberg hasn't developed as planned, however he's still young - since he's not HG it doesn't make much sense for him to be here if he's not #1 or 2. Loan beckons. Angellini not HG either AFAIK so again, pointless to waste a non HG spot on a 17 year old 3rd choice keeper. Okoye likely to be #1, Bachmann #2 and Hamer #3
Given his career since he joined us, it’s hard to believe Dahlberg has caps for Sweden. What on earth was the point of signing him or, if we’ve decided now he’s not good enough, why keep him?
I'd prefer Noel Hunt from Reading and Steven Bergwin on loan from Spurs if we're going down daytime TV signings.
He was a very bright prospect when we signed him (he still is tbf, still a baby in gk terms even if we haven't developed him as we'd like), but those Sweden caps were in friendly games where only Swedish league players were considered
If he’s a back up to the back up, you’ll never hear of him. If he’s just first back up, you will, as the forum constantly debates whether he should play in place of Okoye.
Well our young keepers aren't homegrown, and, especially in the case of Dahlberg, need to be playing games, rather have an experienced pro as a #2/#3 than have someone who'd be better off on loan, we've already had Dahlberg waste a year of his career by rotting on our bench behind Foster and Gomes!
We don't develop players. Struggling to think of one that left the club significantly better than when they signed. Even Richarlison started like a train and we managed to push him to the bench before selling him. Sarr has regressed alarmingly in the last few months. Managed to kill Vydra's development. Doucoure, Capoue and Pereyra left when underperforming. Deulofeu when injured. Possibly João Pedro, but he's yet to set the world alight. God we need a new strategy, I've depressed myself just thinking about it. I don't want to be a club that makes players worse.
We constantly lurch from one type of manager to another often within the space of a few months, at times the difference between managers is almost comical. The vast majority of our managers are bought in to firefight so it’s all about results first and foremost with no regard to player development. We also buy totally random players not suited to any one manager, so each new manager is always trying to make silk of of sows ear, the players we bring in are also either problem players, or have been sold their next move as a means to buy them on the first place. Some of them like Zink are only seen as a quick buck from day one so no thought will ever be given to how we can improve them and they can improve our team. In short we create just about the worst possible environment for any player to develop, if they ever do it’s in spite of us not because of us.
