Can't be bothered to link to it but Leventhal speculating that we might try to sign 32 year old Dwight Gayle in his latest article.
Very good record at Championship level but rubbish in the Premier league so have to be a loan move surely ?
Tbf I reckon he’ll be about as good as we can hope for. The only striker I have any confidence we’ll keep hold of is Fletcher, so Gayle represents a significant upgrade!
Interest in Gayle and potentially bringing Fletch back. Glad we're going all out to give Edwards the striker he wants.
Wouldn’t mind Gayle personally. Has the nous and pedigree at this level. As said previously, a loan move would be better but isn’t he out of contract? Morgan Gibbs-White is one to be excited about in that article!
Signed a new one last year apparently - which was a bit of a surprise to Newcastle fans. Hardly one for the future and very short term but at least can score goals unlike Fletcher.
His biggest asset has been his pace; surely he can't have much of that left. Also, from Edwards' style of play I'd thought we'll be after more of a target man type.
This is what Leventhal has said on Gayle: “Recruitment meetings took place prior to the end of the season where options were discussed and lists analysed. Newcastle United’s Dwight Gaylehas been discussed previously and may become available as that club push on under new ownership after a strong second half to this season saw them comfortably avoid relegation. Although Gayle didn’t score this season in eight Premier League appearances, his last two years in the Championship both saw him score 23 league goals in winning automatic promotion with Newcastle (2016-17) and making the play-offs with West Bromwich Albion (2018-19). Gayle, now 32, is represented by the same agency as Edwards.” I can’t see us going for Gayle. I think this is just that Leventhal (1) knows that we’ve looked at Gayle before and (2) has heard that Gayle will likely be on the move and he’s just got his name in the article just in case. I’m encouraged by the link with Gibbs-White, not because he’s an outstanding player which he is, but because us signing him is utterly implausible (Wolves want to keep him but a number of top flight clubs here and abroad want to sign him for a vast fee) so his inclusion in the article casts doubt on all the other names similarly mentioned.
That is exactly what I expect most fans to do if they had to sit through a Duxbury motivational speech. On topic, 32, past his prime, possible one bad challenge away from six months out... Get him in.
Do you remember when Di Natale was the standard of forward this forum thought Pozzo would send us lol
I think the famed "Pozzo Scouting Network" is actually a copy of Championship Manager 2013. Things are starting to make sense.
