So after F I N A L L Y ending our barren home run of losses with a quite well deserved draw against a lacklustre Everton side who didn't really bother trying and were happy to hold out for a draw. Game was abysmal, but a clean sheet for us was something to smile about, and the chants from the home fans' were amusing. A Bit About the Foxes So, as soon as we have digested that, we are back in action sooner rather than later as Brendon Rodger's inconsistent Leicester City come to town. Having one of the most prolific scorers in the PL in Jamie Vardy, and the son of the geat Peter Schemichael in goal, they are a (usually) are very touch proposition for most sides. After winning the PL in 2015/2016 they have fallen away somewhat - but have never been in relegation trouble nor fighting hard for Europe, mid table obscurity seems to have been where the club have settled. Fantastic stadium - although I did have a soft spot for Filbert Street back in the late 1990s. Some of the great Leicester players such as Izzet (sp?), Guppy, Heskey, Lennon and 5live's Robbie Savage shows the club have housed a lot of great english/welsh/irish talent. Oddly enough we have shared a few managers, CR70, Pearson/Shakesphere and even their current boss Rodgers was a Hornet before he was poached by Reading. Our History This Season We have played Leicester twice this season away from home, once in the league and once in the FA Cup. Lost both games, conceding eight goals in total and scoring just three in reply, one of them being in the mist of a snow storm in late winter. Light's going out and everything - quite the sight it has to be said. Our record at the Vic against them is pretty good - who can forget the famous "hoggg---Deeeeeeneeeey" moment in the playoffs semi final, and we have also beaten them a few times in Championship at the Vic. Both sides have nothing to play for - the season is done for both clubs. It's a nothing game in terms of where we both finish, however for us an extra 2M for finishing 19th above Norwich and at least equaling our lowest PL points tally for 24, there is some stance in our final two games. Considering we are going to get pasted at Chelsea on the final day, it would be nice to come away from our final home game with at least another point. With most of the shirkers of our club "injured" or, staying away to avoid injury to make sure they get move as soon as the Summer window opens - it is very likely we will play a team very similar to what we put out last night, and I am okay with that - because as bad as that game was, they tried hard and put some effort in, which is all we have been asking this season. It's also Hodgson's final home game and I hope he claps the fans' at FT - hopefully they won't be too far away to avoid doing it. My Prediction I can actually see us drawing this one as well - but maybe scoring our final goal of the season at home. Leicester have no real reason to come at us, we have no real reason to try to win either, but the same commitment shown would be enough. Watford 1 Leicester City 1
If you've not already done so, stick Jamie Vardy in your Fantasy Team as triple captain. If we draw, that extra point will at least equal our worst ever top flight total and should ensure we finish 19th.....instead of bottom. That's an extra £2m in prize money.....or a centre half and wing back in Watford speak. Unbeaten run would be extended to a season's best of 2 matches, so it's all to play for.
The Everton game wasn't abysmal. If anything it was one of the best games this season - which isn't saying much, I know
This is how low we've sunk! I agree, last night was fine, no real skill or ability on show but a bit of huff and puff made it passable entertainment. Much like I'm thinking Dan Gosling played alright as he ran around a bit and that alone was better than the limp efforts we've seen in recent weeks.
I agree re Gosling. He didn't look like a world beater but was certainly no worse than Cleverly, Kuka or any of the other scuffers we've had in midfield this season. Made it very hard to understand why he hasn't got anywhere near the first team all season
Because our tinpot managers stuck with the same team selection and formation game after game expecting different results. Also, they continued to persist with Sarr on the wing who we could all see couldn't give a rats' @rse after coming back from AFCON. As bad a Gozzers/Sema are - they would of tried more than Sarr/Cleverly. Or at the minimum, would of made for more entertaining games.
Massive game for both teams. No exaggeration to say that this is a season defining game for both managers, if not career defining.
Disapppointed that @Filbert wasn't charged with writing this end of season cliffhanger. 2 more wins and we are right back in it. 2 more wins and the foxes will be knocking on the door of the champions league places. A real six pointer. W0 LC something huge (80% by Vardy, 20% by "the others")
Also a massive waste of fans' time if they expect a rousing fan thank you moment from Roy. He won't bother with a lap of honor - might be a walk of shame.
Looking forward to the booing opportunities. There’s Dodgers for a start, always worth a boo and Albert Steptoe Vardy himself. And then there’s our entire team, coaching staff and owners.
So the final chance to say goodbye and thank you to one of our most popular and charismatic managers. I’m hearing Hodgson is hiring private protection and Watford Council have arranged for tanks to be stationed at key road junctions.
Not going to this one again. I don't feel the need to see the likes of Hodgson, Sissoko or Foster (hopefully) one last time.
Rickmansworth away in the Hot Rackets league. 12pm start. Disappointed to miss Keith Weller's tights.
Be warned, I tipped Leeds for relegation this year. I can see us both fighting it out with Forest Green Rovers in the play offs before then!
Not until Man City and Liverpool meet in hand to hand combat, or have a race up that Travellator thing from Gladiators.
I’ve been offered a free ticket, turned it down within seconds. Watford 1-4 Leicester Vardy hat trick
I don't know. Missed last week didn't he? Was doubtful Wednesday but played - I presume half fit then.
