Supporters Forum: https://www.uptheclarets.com/messageboard/viewforum.php?f=2 Burnley. England's footballing answer to stale porridge. Bland, boring, unattractive - but god damn can it be effective at times. One of the more forgotten PL sides (not because of who they are, but hey anyone not in the "Top Six" isn't on MotD radar or BBC Sport of Sky Sports etc.) they have flirted with relegation some seasons, battled and even successfully qualified for Europe in one season. Difficult to beat, hard to read and one of the most stubborn defences around, a trip to Turf Moor is never exciting or dreaded, just a game most fans of opposition clubs want to get out of the way and move on. Gaffer Who Once Was Dyche: A Watford rough and tough, with a hoarse voice. A Burnley Legend by now. Under Dyche, Burnley were everything above and more. Despite sounding like he has a handful of cement gravel in his throat half the time, he was a good bloke who worked his side hard, albeit a little bit of a whinger when he was beaten. Being one of our own players back in the day, there is still a section of Watford fans' who respect what he did for us as a club, and the one season he did manage us, did alright with the limited resources available at that time. Relegation Certainties to Unlikely Escape Artists Let's be honest here. Most seasons when Burnley have been edging towards Championship football, the "do a Dyche" and pull away with very few games left. This season has to be one of (or what looked to be) the season they finally do drop. Having the fewest wins for 75% of the season is never good, despite having a much healthier GD than us or Norwich. Sacking Dyche however, seems to of been the switch that clicked. They are now full of confidence, working hard, and WINNING games!! Who would of thought? They now it 2 points above Everton in the warm an fuzzy 17th position in the table, and it looks like another great escape is well on the cards. Cannot do anything else but praise their turnaround, even though being a hornet, I have to envy them. Onward to the Game? So, enough back story, what about the game? Well, their isn't much to say. Our home form speaks for itself. TEN, yes you did not read incorrectly, T E N consecutive home defeats. Regardless of who we faced, that is PATHETIC. I'm sorry, but we roll over so easily and the Vic, and all these "rallying cries" from the players to stick by them is just blowing smoke up our bottoms. None of them are really bothered if we go down, our owner think we are idiots who will swallow any garbage about "learning from mistakes" or "we are ok with older players". Wake up call... we are not idiots. We know very well the direction we seem to be heading and we are not alright with it. We are not mathematically down yet, despite getting our seasonal pasting from blue half of Manchester last time out. As Norwich continue to be just as bad as we are every week, it's just a matter of who goes down with us. With Leeds grabbing point last night, it look like between Burnley and Everton. There is no point going over formations or who will/won't play. Father Time will put out his usual uninterested side who will prance around for 90mins hoping to score on the break as Burnley pile forward knowing this is the perfect game to put daylight between them and the bottom three. We will collapse as soon as they score, and an eleventh straight home loss will happen. In order for us to have any tiny chance of staying up, we must win. A loss will relegate us depending on other scores, so would a draw. We seem to play like headless chickens in front of our own fans. I cannot see that changing now. Prediction: Watford 0 Burnley 2
One of the rare times I hope we lose. Imagine the pressure on Everton when they play Chelsea the following day!
Agreed, we are down so losing this and winning against Everton to help them down would be good. If only I thought we had a chance of winning against Everton. Our run of home losses has got to end eventually?
Burnley will be well up for it, our losers know they're down. Looking forward to defeat in this one, hopefully Burnley stick a few past us for the goal difference.
I just hope our idiots realise we’ve still got Norwich to overhaul at the bottom and don’t actually try and go and win this one.
We should throw this match. Nothing would give me greater pleasure than seeing Everton relegated. * well there are a few things but they are NSFW
Is it £2m extra prize money per place? Can't be finishing 19th - we'll be a 9th of the way to another Andre Gray!
We can all dream. Actually how many Andre Grays would we need to buy to make up one half decent footballer? I'd estimate about 8.
Knowing us, we'd end up beating Burnley and losing to Everton. I'd go as far as saying we'd lose the rest of our games as well. That would be so typically boring and crap of us, that we are so feable that we couldn't drag Everton down with us.
I can’t believe the poll doesn’t have a ‘Micah Hyde’ option. Unfortunately I can see a low scoring draw coming here.
Actually had some grief off Everton fans on Twitter for rightly saying they went wrong the minute they unsettled Marco Snake Eyes. Oh and for calling Richarlison a diving cry baby. Oh and the fact they spanked over 500 million on rubbish players. Oh and the fact they have got through almost as many managers as we have the last few years. 3 nil Burnley Saturday. I will cheer every goal that strikes another nail in the grand old teams survival hopes.
Followed by a nice shot of Duxbury and Gino in the fancy seats looking embarrassed at the end of the game.
Don't care, not going. Our season tickets will continue to gather dust rather than watch another turgid defeat and fork out for train fares. We're as good as relegated in the most limp and pathetic way possible, so good luck Burnley and send those scouse c**ts to the Championship, even if it's at our expense.
I hope we lose, but whether I'll feel that at 3.01 on Saturday I'm not sure. I'll probably be supporting us out of habit.
Genuinely do hope we lose. Our season is over anyway, we're dead and buried, the best thing we can do now is take Everton with us and have a good laugh about it.
I hope the players realise we are in a relegation battle now. We really need 'Clevs' to be up for this one
This is the least I think I've ever cared about Watford winning a competitive game. I wouldn't be fussed at all if we lost.
Wouldn't say I actively want us to lose, but it will certainly be the one game, alongside Leicester at home in 15/16, where I'll be the least arsed if we lose
Desperate to lose this. I won’t be watching, but if I was going to, I’d be cheering every Burnley goal like one of our own. The only thing to play for in our remaining games is relegating Everton, and extending our run of home defeats. Ideally we’ll round out the season in the most humiliating of fashions. I’m fascinated by how far we have to sink before this gutless squad and owner begin to show an ounce of shame.
Can’t wait for this one. Bloody love football me. Will be amazing to see Vyds score at the Vic again and throw another well deserved V at the Upper GT.
