Regardless of whether you voted for it or not, is Brexit going as well as you thought it would?

It appears that most people don't:

Is it going well, and is it going as well as you expected are two entirely different questions.

Yougov need to start publishing data that is complete/correct. There are missing categories or numbers on that chart to the tune of nearly a third of people canvassed in Feb and 8% more recently.

    Aren't they likely just to be 'don't knows'? Not sure where you get a third from: 53 + 21 + 18 = 92

Agree that should be shown on the graph.

Back in Feb, you quoted me before the edit.
"Don't know", "Don't care" or "f*** off" responses to the canvassers still need to be there. If the chart is "of those that expressed an opinion" then fair enough, but that figures needs to be reported of percentages uplifted to 100% in total and the question clarified that those not expressing an opinion. At the moment it's incomplete data which has to colour any conclusions drawn. IT appears to be there just to tell us that people are peed off with the way brexit has been handled post the date. That's likely the case so why taint it.

Let’s face it Brexit hasn’t produced any benefits yet and quite a few downsides.

It doesn’t have to be a big disaster if we are willing to make some realistic compromises, but like much else in the Country, it’s running on fumes.

I’m not saying the vaccine roll out wasn’t good, but we always would have had the option of not joining the EU scheme in or out of the EU.

We had advantages with AZ being developed here and should always have taken them.

We also had the ability to use our own regulatory framework in an emergency when in the EU.

So was Nigel Farage. Apparently his stationary car was hit by a van at a roundabout after he had searched seven petrol stations for fuel.

    No really, don’t laugh.

I thought he said he would leave the Country if Brexit wasn’t a success?

    What are you talking about?

There are some clear benefits. For example, the UK is now leading the way in the battle against climate change by having fewer lorries on the road.

Report on C4 news that 150k pigs will have to be culled because of a shortage of abbatoir workers. The pigs will end up in landfill.

The point you, and the pigs, are missing here is that these are just teething problems.

We were miles ahead at the start but it was always going to be a longer game. We are now behind about ten EU countries in vaccines per capita, having also agreed to pay a lot more per dose due to our weakened purchasing power and rush to be first.

I don't doubt that being first gave us a short term boost in morale and got us marginally ahead with our economic recovery but that advantage has already disappeared. We will need to repeat vaccines annually and will pay a lot more in the long run.

So if that's your "go to" benefit of Brexit, I'd think again, as we could have achieved the same result at a far lower cost had we stayed in.

I agree except for your last paragraph.

We were still in the transition period and could have joined the EU scheme.

Obviously, as you say, the early impact of going our own way was beneficial. Longer term is not so clear.

But Brexit did not prevent us joining the EU scheme. And being in the EU scheme would not have prevented us sourcing our own supplies (although the Commission would have discouraged it).

The only reason we did go our own way was political. The government were reluctant to join the EU scheme, imho, because it would not have been a "good look" to be beholden to the EU while Brexit was still happening.

So, on that basis, Brexit was, indirectly, why we purchased our own vaccines but it wasn't something we had to do or couldn't have done while within the EU.

I’ve reassured some local pigs that they will soon be slaughtered for food again so yahoos can stick tomato ketchup on them, rather just be slaughtered and dumped, but they seemed unimpressed.

Anywho just Google "driver shortage" and insert any EU country .
For example France who have a shortfall of between 40,000 and 50,000 drivers .
Quite where the 100, 000 drivers we are expecting are coming from is anyone's guess .

I'm relaxed about it. Is it going well? Yes, we have still left the EU, which is the Brexit I voted for.

Could it be better? Yes, but not much, and I think it is fair to say that many of the criticisms of Brexit in the UK are, in other countries, being blamed on the pandemic.

Do I think we will be in a better place next year? Barring another pandemic level disaster, yes, I belive so, and I imagine this thread will be long forgotten, and any gains that may be considered a result of Brexit will be credited to COVID recovery.

It's not going as well as I thought it would, but then again that's largely down to the pandemic and also the actual miss managment of brexit post leaving. I knew there would be short term pain. It's far too early to take stock yet we're looking at a good 5 -10 years before a coherent conclusion can really start to be drawn.
It is going a darn site better than a lot of people predicted it would though and I would hope that things can only improve.

Did you really believe Brexit would ever be ‘well-managed’?

I’m sure many rejected it on the basis that those who advocated it and got power through it couldn’t possibly manage it well.
