Gosling has only survived this window because we had three midfielders out of contract next summer. I want him gone in January.
Reading goal aside Quina has been more hype than substance to date. He’s nearly 22 so if he is going to be any good then getting his head down and focussing on football needs to happen pretty soon. Another lockdown bandit gone.
Needs some actual coaching on how to be a midfielder, when to release the ball and not to just constantly pirouette into an opposition player and lose it. With our set up and manager turnover he was never going to get that here.
Quina has left for first team football, but even at Fulham I doubt he’ll play week in week out, they have Josh Onomah, Harry Wilson and young and exciting Fabio Carvalho that can play in the number 10 role, and Seri, Reed, Cairney, Francois and now Chalobah as deeper lying midfielders.
I still think he has the potential to be very good. Never given a run of games, and some crappy loans did nothing to help his development. I wish him well.
Indeed, the problem with Quina was a lack of loans before that puzzling one to a better team than the one he was struggling to break into!
Not that he's our 'problem' anymore, but I don't like the sound of this deal for him, Fulham are looking better than we were last season, he struggled enough to get into even our threadbare teams in his preferred position last season, let alone with stiffer competition for places
TBH the only high profile player of those who have left I can see walking straight into a starting line up is Deeney due to the fact he is “going home” Palace and Fulham seem to have set sides whilst QPR are doing well with Austin and Dykes up front .
An update to the Quina loan. According to AL and The Athletic, Quina has extended his contract at Watford to 2024 before going on loan to Fulham. However, Fulham have an option to buy if they gain promotion. So if Fulham don't go up, we won't be losing out on Quina leaving for free.
Leventhal says that he signed an extension till 2024 before going on loan. Either he is good and they buy him at a low price or he is **** and we are stuck with him till 2024. Cracking business.
Seems sensible to an extent. Every chance he has a 7/10 season and they give us £5m for him and then realise he’s not good enough for the PL. Or he fails there but they are obliged to buy him if promoted maybe…. That said, why we couldn’t have just said in the press release that he extended his deal I’ve no idea. Other clubs manage it (Chelsea and Fulham in the past few days). It’s just more odd cloak and dagger communication that serves no real purpose.
I just don't really understand extending it till 2024. If he is a dud and they don't take up the option, we are stuck with him for a further 2 seasons. Unless their is an obligation of some kind it seems a bit of an odd one. Its just consistent with their approach of obscuring the truth and lying to fans isn't it.
They would be dammed by those who think I Quina hasn’t had a chance if they just let him go and dammed for giving him a new contract by people who don’t think he will ever be good enough ? Probably just flog him to Udinese if he isn’t wanted. Fulham will get promoted so just a case of if they want him .
I saw somewhere that they had to buy him for 5 million if they are promoted, whether that's fact who knows!
Possibly Fulham were only going to pay £1m or so if his deal was running out, so we managed to extend to leverage a better fee. Fulham make it worth our while to loan him so get the player. We trim the squad and set-up a payday in a year’s time. Quina gets a move to a new club, with a guaranteed further 3 years of wages even if he has a poor season.
Tbf, I think £5m, in this current market, with his achievements in the game is probably fair enough if it happens, given that we'd have received little or nothing had he not signed, I'd say it's worth risking being left with him if he flops or gets injured
