Dahlberg to League 1? Even the worst teams in the Swedish top flight are probably no worse than that standard lol, Championship would be good if someone is interested
I doubt any other clubs in English football even know who Pontus Dahlberg even is, much less any of them wanting to take him on as a temporary No.1
Fans, fair enough, but I'd have thought with the data clubs have these days that they'd know about one of the best keepers in Sweden who's already played for the national team!
He was capped years ago though - and has been nowhere near the squad for ages. Not even sure he’d be classed as one of the best Swedish GK’s given the amount of time elapsed since he was first labelled as such. Don’t get me wrong - I have hopes for him. But they aren’t as high as they once were. We have made a right mess of his progression. The lad has been brought in with no plan whatsoever so far as I can see - 2 loans back to his homeland, and one pointless one way down the Eredivisie (where he didn’t get picked). And not a single international call up whilst playing back in Sweden. We need to get him a loan in a decent league where he’s guaranteed regular football - easier said than done. And I would be astounded if we found anyone in the Championship. Best bet is to do what Brighton did with Robert Sanchez and send Dahlberg to a Forest Green/Newport County/Salford type club. Keep him in this country rather than some low ranked euro league where it would be another case of ‘out of sight, out of mind’.
We have made a mess of his progression. We kept Gomes on due to the 'Father figure' status towards Richarlison and then Pedro. This meant Dahlberg was not going to get a look in at all. I don't rate Bachmann, l have said so many times on here. His inability to command the box once the ball is played in, especially in the air. This will cost us dearly. To think several European clubs were chasing Dahlberg. He visited several before deciding on Watford. We must have said/offered something to him in order for him to sign. To go back to Swaden on a permanent deal would be a step backwards, but he is young and Keepers seem to have a longer career than outfield players. Parkes will never play in the first team. The club has has high hopes for Angelini. I don't know anything about Bastispe?

Finally getting some good loans going! Get Hungbo and TDB into L1 clubs and things are looking up in that regard.
I think all 3 should be good enough for bottom half championship no? GK a bit different because it can be difficult to guarantee game time but I’d want to see the other two in the Championship for sure. TDB and Hungbo clearly a level above Phillips and Cukur (for now) Definitely good to get some decent domestic loans going.
I really don’t think they are. I’d rather see them a level below (especially Hungbo). They are young and would be first out of the teams in the Championship if clubs run into bad form. I think L1 gives them more breathing room and the ability to mature better. I’d like to see them at a club like Rotherham where Warne plays some good stuff and always has them in the top spots. I think we like to believe some of our young players are better before their time personally. What have TDB or Hungbo done to show they would get regular game time at Champ level? Very little IMO.
Rotherham a decent shout for sure. I rate Warne as a coach and think he’d improve them. Hungbo is a bit borderline bug TDB (even though I don’t rate him as highly as many on here) should really be finding something in the Championship in my view.
Maybe. But I think regular game time is a more pressing need in their careers. Don’t see any clubs in the Championship where they are assured of that. 30+ games each in L1 will do them the power of good.
Looks like a great loan for him. Hopefully he can nail down a starting spot; I assume that has to be the plan or there would be no point in sending him there. Good news on the 5 year contract, too.
As I’ve said in the team bus thread: Watford have a very strange habit of not announcing new contracts and this seems to be the latest example.
Fair enough. I accept he’s maybe borderline in that regard - I just don’t think he’s played much senior football and is also coming off the back of a serious injury. Can’t see a club in that league who would be willing and able to give him the regular game time he needs. But maybe an opportunity opens up and he runs with it.
Unless I am going blind it doesn't specify the length on there just that he has signed a new deal. Typical Watford shambles that it isn't even announced on our own website like a normal club. Genuinely can't get my head around the club's communication policy.
It seems to have been subsequently edited out. The original said something along the lines of 'he's inked a season-long loan fresh off signing a new 5yr deal with the club he joined in 2018'.
Hungbo needs gametime with a club near the top of the table where he can keep practicing his final ball, I guess Rotherham will be trying to fire in balls into the box, so I'd like to see a move like that for him. TDB I'm sure could do a job in the Championship, and by the sounds of it, plenty of Championship clubs want him
Some of our players are going to be set well for our season in the Championship next year. We might have quite an exciting squad to try and bounce back up with!
Wonder if Doncaster just mangled the fact he’d signed a 5 year deal with us originally? Will wait and see but I can’t imagine with 2 years left and a succession of loans under his belt he’d be gagging for 5 more years quite yet.
Personally I've only seen Reading mentioned. Don't think anywhere has said there are loads of interested parties as HD claims.
Yeah maybe. Although I always think its a danger sending a players out on loan with just 2yrs left. If they have a great season, there's no guarantee they will sign on for longer when the return. I'd rather they extend for at least a year before going. But wouldn't shock me if the club don't use the same foresight.
With Foster's deal ending and interest from Ajax and Arsenal in Bachamann he could well see a pathway to gametime here next season. He is still very young for a keeper.
Maybe that's why we sent him to League 1? If we sent him on loan to the Championship and he has a stormer, he probably wouldn't want to come back to us in the Championship if we get relegated, but assuming he does well, the next logical step would be the Championship
Looks a good loan. Doncaster must've lost their first choice keeper as they only have a 22 year old who was their back up last season and played 13 games and an 18 year old in their squad. Would expect Pontus to be going in there as number 1 and getting a full season of English football under his belt.
