Agreed. There are 4 huge games, if you add Swansea (h) and Brentford (a). These will be a huge test of the squads mental strength (something that has been lacking for some time).

Of course he isn't, but he's managed to improve a weaker group of players than previous incumbents. I think mentality plays a big part.

Fair do's. Would still argue that the real tests are yet to come

Slightly off piste but I was thinking about the recent performances and then which players might vie for player of the season.? I think it will end up a tough call.!
The main guy that's been there all season, Kiko, has Been excellent all season and linked up with Chabs and Sarr.
Then Sieralta, came in later and made CB his own possession, our best ariel CB in years, has helped galvanise a great defence.
Then there's Hughes, came in late, played OK, then the switch to 433 and he pulls the strings from midfield.
Then Chabs looks like having a huge impact in the run in.
Either of Sarr or Zinc could now go on a heady run of goal scoring/assists that makes us unbeatable for the run-in....(remembering how we all raved about GD in the cup semi).
So how will we eventually pick a POS and based on what exactly..?

Was thinking about this last night and came to the conclusion that players player of the year is likely to be Kiko. Fans will likely vote Hughes.

    Neither pick is wrong really.

I'm voting for Super Ken. His natural abilities may not be so prodigious as some of our fancier dans, but he certainly makes the most of them through sheer effort and determination.

Traditionally Watford fans have gone for consistency and playing in a high proportion of games when judging PotS. That’s why goalkeepers and top scorers have often won it. For this reason I think Kiko would win.

The only real exception I can remember was in 1989 when Glyn Hodges, who wasn’t always in the team, had a purple patch late on but was then injured for the run-in and play-offs, yet won the award.

It's true that we have had some great performances from quite a few of our players this season. However one player stands out from the bunch for me because he has been so consistent all season whereas others have got better as the season has gone along, and that player is.............................

We have kept a clean sheet in early 50% of our games. We have only conceded more than one goal six times and on three of those occasions we have still won. Our defence has been special so far this season.

Interesting to see the weeks 28 to 38 all show a strong push, but if that push isn't sustained there's a marked drop-off in the last 8.

Looks quite lucky that we get to start the final block of games with a home match against 23rd.

If we keep scoring at the rate in recent games we may end up getting promoted with the smallest goals for in our promotion campaigns in recent times but highest points total. And simply down to our defence. Which has actually improved in the last twrnty or so matches. Credit to Ivic for instituting it but for the players and Xisco for carrying that on.

Interesting that many people are crediting Ivic (who some have called Flores MK II) for our defence but no one apart from a couple gave Flores any credit for the defence's improvement before lockdown.

Don't get me wrong, his return was a disaster and he should never have been brought back in the first place, but looking at it objectively we did get our first clean sheet in 20 games under him and got six more after he was fired. Is it because the clean sheets we got weren't that impressive (in two 0-0 home draws against one of the lowest scorers in the division, and a team that eventually went down with us, and a 2-0 win at the bottom team) and we leaked a fair few goals in his last five games despite the defensive tactics, so it was really Mullins/Stack who properly reorganized the defence as well as the rest of the team whilst crucially restoring much-needed confidence, with Pearson building on their groundwork? And Ivic is getting more credit because we weren't as far adrift from the automatics when he was sacked as we were from safety when Flores went, and Flores was supposed to be pulling us away from safety which he failed miserably at?

Vlad is getting the praise because he deserves it!!

The reason being he did not have a lot to work with for about 10/12 games, as many of our top players were either injured or wanted away. Therefore he had to use mostly 2nd string players and kids until the window finally closed. Even then there were still quite a few injured and many others still not totally committed to the team, until they finally realised they were stuck with us and needed to get to work.

Does anyone know the last time we won 9 out of 10 league fixtures? I’m sure I cannot recall such a run.

Crikey, I forgot just how well we started that year.

Looking it up we won 12 and drew 3 of the opening 15 games, not losing until the 16th fixture....

    ....at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

    Second string?
In that first league game v Boro our lineup was:
    Foster
    Ngakia Cathcart Kabasele Wilmot Femenia
    Quina Cleverley Chalobah Sema
    Pedro

Not really that shabby is it? All of those players (with the exception of Quina perhaps) could stake a claim to start in the side now.

Sarr started featuring from the third game onward. Probably the most notable absences thereafter were Deeney, Hughes, Capoue and Masina; Munoz hasn’t had Capoue or Deeney around either, has had Cleverley, Kabasele and Foster out for large periods of his tenure and arrived just before the start of the transfer window, with some players potentially seeking exits then too. Those first few games were definitely a tricky environment for any manager, with a lot of things up in the air at the time, but I think it’s clearly an exaggeration to suggest that Ivic was stuck playing second string and youth players through the majority of his time in charge.

Ivic did a good job establishing some defensive solidity, but Munoz has improved both our defence and our attack (the latter considerably) since his arrival.

Should be deeney (pen) for player of the season. He is Mr Watford. Scored the goals that kept us in contention before his injury

I can't remember if I've thanked you for your efforts before Hornet77, but even if I have, a huge THANK YOU!!!

You have made poring/pouring/pooring/pawing over statistics an absolute joy.

Lordy, I'm nervous about the run-in!!!

Latest statistics above which include now the max points achievable by each team. I'll update the league table after tonight's games.

We've now played 40 league games; with 20 each under Ivic and Munoz and there records are below. If we'd continued under Ivic with the same form we would potentially have same points as Barnsley but a better goal difference. The win ratio under Munoz and goals scored are so much better.

    Excellent work.

Could only be improved by arranging a points deduction for Norwich.

Maybe email the EFL and see what they can do?
