Just scored a cracker for Granada 7 minutes into his first La Liga start. https://twitter.com/loanwatford/status/1363545160324419584?s=21
Not another one showing what he can do when he has left the club ? Will we see him come back for next season ? Foulquier however scored an own goal. Nehuen Perez has been there but down in the pecking order. Very good when he has played. Perhaps Quina can ask him to come back with him.
Agreed we know he's got a a dsreamer in his locker but he never produced a high level of consistency that's needed.
Ah, this old tosh again. You have to be over 6 foot and at least 13 stone to succeed in the Championship, you know!
I think it's fair to say he was too easy for opponents to ease off of the ball. That was happening from very early on in the season. Now I guess that's partly down to him but also the protection we gave him and the role he was asked to play. Where I think he would be profiting now is as part of a midfield 3 or even in the Sema role wide left.
As you allude to, it's more about how we use him. I just don't get this obsession, particularly in the Championship, with talking about players being "too lightweight", especially attacking players. Some of the best attacking players of all time - and more relevantly some of the best attacking players in this division - have been small, weak and easy to knock off the ball when it comes down to it, but it hasn't stopped them from being great players.
Ashley Young when with us another example, always looked like his shirt and shorts were 2 sizes too large
Buendia, Cantwell, Mbeumo, Adam Armstrong, Harvey Elliot, Harry Wilson etc all seem to manage just fine.
To be fair, I think a lot of those players, despite the slender builds, have a natural aggression that Quina maybe lacks. I don't think Quina has the sort of knack for Sh*thousery that some of those other players have, but it never seemed to be such an issue.
I disagree, when I have seen him he doesn't seem adverse to putting himself about when needed. Also bear in mind he is only 21. So still has time to work on strength and add that to his game. I remember early on in his career, thinking Ashley Young always had the skills, but was too lightwight in the challenge, then he turned up one season, and it was like wow, he had put a bit of steel into his game, giving the skill a chance to shine through and he had subsequently gone up several notches as a player.
In his appearances this season, particularly early on, it was painfully apparent he couldn't look after the ball. Give him a run between the lines and he'd look pretty good. But too often he'd try to shield the ball from an opponent and have it nicked from him like a lolly from a baby. And I don't see moving from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3 would have magically solved that for him.
I think this is fair, though I do sympathize with him somewhat given that there were more than a few occasions where he was forced to hold onto the ball in unfavorable areas of the pitch, simply because there was absolutely zero movement from teammates looking to receive the ball. That said, he was also guilty just as often of holding the ball for far too long in unfavorable areas of the pitch, ignoring a simple lay-off, or playing blind passes across the middle of the park. He’s definitely a work in progress still.
I agree to a certain extent, but I think that work in progress should be being done here, not in sunny Spain
His tendency to hang onto the ball too long also counted against him. I would imagine that most, if not all, of the players in the list above know when to pass the ball and then move into space, hence why they can play in a physical league. At the start of the season, Quina was receiving the ball in the middle of the pitch would have a team mate moving up and open for a simple pass into their stride that would have kept the team moving forward if he played it that he after taking a touch. Instead, he would take three or four more, the option would be gone and he'd be closed down or turn back into trouble. He's undoubtedly a skilful player but his decision making has been poor most games and that's why his lack of physicality matters. I think he rated quite highly for tackles made so not afraid to get stuck in, but as you say levered off the ball far too easily when in possession.
