Seems pretty grounded for his age, quite honestly. Expectation like that is one heck of a burden to carry as a youngster, and if the bolded part is any indication it looks like he's got his head on right at least.

We may have signed up a group of top models, then. Maybe Gino is going to open an agency.

He is 22. And has done nothing of note to warrant a signing. Another waste of scarce resources. The chances he will make it as a professional to offer us anything are nil.

More PR media garbage from the club.

Playing for Almere City for 9 years in the lower Dutch leagues would ground any professional footballer I reckon.

Not true. He was unlucky to be released from a second tier Dutch team's u21 squad and has been without a club for seven months. #pedigree #bestscoutingnetworkintheworld

The signing is completely fine. No one expects him to be anything more than U23 filler and he'll cost us next to nothing. In the unlikely chance he develops into a first team squad player, the media will pick up on it, clubs wills come snuffing and the club could profit.

I imagine the overall idea is to expand Watford's contacts throughout the game. If Ajax wanted to send a player on loan, Bergkamp might chose us over division rivals, if he hears that Watford treat their development team well/ have good facilities.

The annoyance comes from the lack of actual first-team transfers, but this transfer is fine and a bit of a non-story.

On Sky Sports News ticker I saw 'Watford sign Dennis Bergkamp' and thought, well he could probably still do a job.

Professional football is a circus. Watford sound like they're ahead of this game. I would guess all of these together cost peanuts compared to Andre Gray's wage. It's a punt, schmoozing some inner circles and publicity. And if Bergkamp turns out at 25% of his Dad we've still got a good player.
Or Watford's talent scouts are stars-truck idiots. Read it how you like, time will tell.

Who would you put in the team, 50 odd year old Dennis Bergkamp or Andre Gray? It’s a no brainer.

The cynic in me wonders whether this was announced today as the club knew it would generate some interest/discussion which might at least somewhat distract from another awful deadline day

Well the Beeb put us on the front page of the football section. Not normal that. The fathers could still play better and be of more use to the first team squad.

A friend and fellow WFC fan's son played against MB when he played for Hadley Wood.
He said he was "Outstanding" and he's not prone to hyperbole.
    Let's hope he still is!

So on the bench for Saturday. Already impressed Xisco enough to throw him into proceedings.

I thought he didn't make a first team appearance for them?
He is not going to mske it as a professional player.
    Why have we signed him?

He may turn out to be amazing but the odds of this are minute. If he was decent he would not be playing at Almere. He would be in the Ajax, Twente, Groningen academies which are very good and by his age playing in the top tier in Holland. He has been in the fourth tier which is far worse than our own fourth. Probably the level of the English sixth or seventh. That is the comparison. And he has hardly been electric in that either. Best of luck to him and all that but I am being rational.

Yes, young Alan was made captain of my lad’s primary school team because his dad Graham was manager of the town’s league club. First practice, the ‘teacher’ who took that decision realised he was literally incapable of kicking the ball, falling over every time he tried.
