Sunusi makes me think of washing machines. Think I'll call him Sunny and try not to get my head in a spin over it.
According to several articles all carrying the same report, Sunusi - or 'Da Bull' - is heading back to Watford "soon", barring any unforeseen circumstances (like the continuation of a worldwide pandemic I guess). https://headtopics.com/ng/sunusi-da-bull-ibrahim-confirms-watford-move-15992014 Single match focus on Sunusi (#10) for Nigeria against Togo in the West African Football Union Cup, September 2019. Despite the title having his age as 17, technically Sunusi was still 16 on the day of this game - by 2 days. It's a difficult watch because the uploader hasn't removed the massive lettering from the picture at all. Brief highlights from various matches. Player not highlighted but recognisable by his short, solid build. From what the very-difficult-to-watch videos show is a physically strong young man (he turned 18 on October 1) who has a decent body swerve, is able to carry the ball comfortably and has a surprisingly good leap for someone bereft of height. It looks like he can play across the front 3 but is also tenacious with his tackling. He's been the top scorer in his domestic league but his shooting ability on show here is non-existent. Passing is a bit hit or miss as is his first touch.
Ready to save our season and fire us to promotion in the same way that Joao "the cavalry" Pedro fired us to safety last season. Bugles at the ready.
I wonder if anything ever came of this potential signing. Some time ago I was told by a journalist Sunusi was due over for a second trial so Vladimir Ivic could run the rule over him personally. I can't remember what thread it was on but I mentioned this on the forum. Out of respect for the journalist I kept the players name out of the post as nobody (club & player reps) wanted it made public and he (journalist) didn't want anything coming back on him. I've had nothing off the journalist since so sod it! Anyway, I posted a tweet when Watford U23s played Brentford 'B' in a friendly in November of a clip appearing to show Sunusi in action and tagged various Nigerian #'s, just to see if anyone bit. Nothing happened. Today though that clip has been retweeted a few times by Nigerian posters (nobody with too many followers but a couple who seem to have connections to the media) so I wonder if there's something in the offing?
A couple more hits from Nigeria for my tweet back in November and I've now found this article from today. How much is true or cobbled together through speculation remains to be seen but there does seem to be some momentum gathering. The final paragraph suggests there may be some credence to the piece. https://www.owngoalnigeria.com/2021/01/05/ex-nasarawa-united-forward-sunusi-ibrahim-shinning-bright-for-watford-u23-in-test-games/ (I can't cut and paste from the article as it's protected but it's in English so it's easy enough to access).
Bit worried that he's "shinning" brightly. We already have Andre Gray shinning things all over the pitch, don't need another striker doing likewise.
Was told that if he signs his pathway to the first team won't be easy as the club are about to announce 3 year contract extensions for Gray and Deeney. Can't blame the lad, good luck to him.
