No chance we spend £16m on one player, and even if his price drops, you can bet a Premier League team will be all over him (if they haven't already signed Gray!)
It's the going rate for good Championship strikers these days, Huddersfield would be bang in trouble without him
Villa will probably come in with a 22m bid for Grant seeing the way they're throwing their money around.
Are Gray and Deeney leaving? Sweet!!!! get a cheeky bid in for Vydra!!! imagine a front three of Pedro, Sarr and Vydra!!! so much pace! Would tear this league a new one
Don’t see any legs in this one....well beyond it at premiership level unfortunately. Has some way to go to prove to me that he can still perform in the championship too.
Some or our want away "big" names must be getting a bit of a reality check given the lack of offers for them.
Athletic suggests WBA want him again. Looking at their first two games think it's defenders they need !
Still can't see Troy leaving. Think there's too much respect both ways between Troy and Gino in the sense that Gino won't actively push him out, and Troy won't stick a request in. Wouldn't surprise me if there's a mutual agreement in place such as "If you get an offer from the Prem, we'll talk, but if not you stick around on a new deal with a wage reduction and bonus on promotion".
No, they'll just convince themselves that the club are making it "impossible" for all those suitors to negotiate with.
I do think he will score goals for us this year, but I can definitely see the desire to shift his ludicrous wage packet. He is decent, but he wasn't worth 70k a week when we had PL money, never mind the championship. However, he can only be allowed to leave if we are hanging onto Suarez.
OK, £35k is still a huge amount in the Championship (the amount we seemingly want to get off the books for Capoue), but does he have a relegation wage drop clause?
Worth noting an anonymous survey was done in the EFL last season and the average top earning wage at Championship level was 28k. So as a club that has just been relegated and will receive parachute payments, 35k a week probably doesn't break to bank for us yet.
Interesting. How do our finances stack up compared to other recently relegated clubs? Obviously Norwich are fine (I doubt they'll have many on those kinds of wages anyway), Bournemouth will have a few on those wages I'd imagine (and they're keeping the wolves away from the door), but I wouldn't know about past seasons
I like the innuendo, 'a Southern club', clearly Fulham and the manager on £66,538 a week is quite blatantly Bielsa lol
It's interesting how much things have changed. Back during the Vialli era, we allegedly had a player on more than David Beckham was on at the time, at 25k a week!
What in the absolute ****? This was when Beckham was an established international, that same season was when he rehabilitated himself in the eyes of the English public with the goal against Greece!
Two caveats: first, the player was never mentioned by name, and secondly we don't know for a fact it was true. The rumours, however, put it at Ramon Vega. This seems plausible given he was the marquee signing that year. I'm fairly sure Elton mentioned it at one point, among other people, and he certainly has connections. I think he mentioned it on a chat show, although I don't remember which one now. It was a while back!
Money and ego mean respect counts for very little in football. Offers will come in late and most,if not all,of the "unsettled" players will be gone.I won't be sorry to see any of them go. Obviously unfair on Vlad but he seems savvy enough to deal with it.
