We aren’t in a position to be turning our noses up at players like Gibson just because of a rough patch at Burnley. He’s left-footed, has leadership qualities and would be one of the best CB’s in the division. If it’s possible, we should be doing all we can to get him.
Brighton CB’s Lewis Dunk Dan Burn Adam Webster Shane Duffy Ben White Matt Clarke I can’t see them getting rid of Ben White after the season he has had with Leeds. Obviously they have made Shane Duffy available but we should be all over Matt Clarke, even if it’s just a loan. Was Derby’s best player last season. He’s not breaking into the team this season with Dunk, Webster, Burn and White ahead of him. If we can sign him on a permanent deal even better, highly doubtful though. A loan would definitely help our backline though.
They also just brought in Joel Veltman from Ajax who can play both CB and LB. Brighton bought Clarke a year ago for around 3m. Surely signing him for somewhere in the region of 6-8m would be reasonable for all parties? Would be a cracking option. Young, left-footed, decent with the ball at his feet and good in the air. He would do well in the Championship and also (I would imagine) be able to make the step up should we get promoted. I wonder if we will go the homegrown, championship-experience route for our new starting CB or will look abroad (if we wishfully assume that there will be funds invested at CB). In his Athletic article this morning, Levethal suggested we retain our interest in Lucas Verissimo and Kim Min-Jae. The latter is surely headed to bigger things but the former could still be an option. Not sure if he'd get a work permit though although minutes in the Brazilian Serie A and the Copa Libertadores make it somewhat of a possibility.
Heard that Verissino has an Italian passport. No way do we sign the Korean guy now - he was being linked with top clubs for £20m not long ago. We wouldn’t have got him he we stayed up - we defo won’t know. It’s continuing to peddle names like that, that has people questioning any credibility Leventhal has. Veltman is a CB who sometimes plays RB or RWB. He doesn’t play on the left. I still think Clarke might be surplus to requirements however - unless a big club offers silly money for Ben White which they can’t turn down.
Forgot about Veltman. So that’s 7 CB’s they have all better than ours. It really would be a no brainer to go after Clarke.
Clarke would be a great buy. Even if we get him with a loan fee of £5mil plus option to buy, it would be worth it. They have already rejected £22mil from Leeds for White. They don’t need to sell. Like you said it will take a ridiculous offer of £40mil+ for them to sell I think. Clarke is our best bet. I was begging us to sign him from Portsmouth. For £3mil it was an obvious purchase. Good job we have the fat Giraldi that didn’t think so.
I don't know about this Brazilian lad, he might be brilliant for all we know, but if it were up to me I'd be going all out for Gibson as he's more proven in England
Kim is certainly beyond us. There seems to be a buzz around him going to Spurs. Verissimo doesn’t have an Italian passport. Although it appears you weren’t the only one with that misconception! Here’s an article from earlier this year of his club president complaining that there was a lot of interest in him earlier this year from European clubs which fell apart once their assumption (likely based on his surname) that he had an Italian passport proved false. https://www.clubcall.com/premier-league/everton/2020/03/21/santos-set-asking-price-for-everton-target-verissimo/
It really is. Ngakia for probably a tribunal fee of £1-2mil. Wilmot is ours, I would spend up to £15mil on Clarke, but we can probably get him for cheaper or at least on loan with option to buy. Pickering won’t cost more than £2mil. That backline would definitely make us more solid. And most likely wouldn’t cost more than £10-15mil.
We won’t be signing a defender for £15m. We didn’t get close to that in the PL so we certainly won’t do it now.
That’s why I said “I would...” not our “owners would...” I already know they won’t, but if I was the owner I would be willing to spend up to £15mil on Clarke.
I agree. But I reckon Clarke would be available for half that (provided Brighton don’t sell Dunk or White). I could see (or would like to see) us bringing in a defender in the 5-10m range.
No chance we’d be linked to a Crewe 1st team player. So he must be their 2nd or 3rd choice Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Middlesbrough have made an improved offer for Northampton Town captain Charlie Goode. Last month, the Teeside club had a £500,000 bid rejected, as it was deemed short of Northampton’s valuation of the player. A number of other Championship sides remain keen on the 25-year-old centre-back.
Both, I would imagine. He's better than Dawson and he started for West Brom and err Scottish football.
A few of those Copenhagen players looked good the other night, but I have no clue right now of their names I would have to look them up. I'm not sure of the standard of the Danish top division, so I do not know if their players would consider a move to our Championship a step up or not? However, if they did it might well be worth to taking a look at a couple of their players IMO.
I just looked them up:- 1. Their GK Johnsson had a great game, whether he just had a blinder or if that was his normal standard I don't know, but he looked great on the night. 2. The other one who impressed me was Rasmus Falk in MF, he really looked good. As I say whether a move to WFC would be considered a step up by either of them I don't know, but if they think it would be I would certainly like us to take a closer look at them both, and if they are as good as they looked the other night put in an offer for them if we can afford them that is.
Suggested last year. Now signed as Pool's back-up LB for €13mil, which is a decent fee. Perhaps we could have got him as our first choice had we moved for him sooner. sigh.
I also suggested their young CB, Nelsson, on here a few weeks ago. I thought he had a good game overall up against Martial, except for one moment early on where he was perhaps lucky not to give away a pen. I agree with you on the GK - if that's close to his usual standard then he'd definitely be worth keeping an eye on. Falk does seem probably their best outfield player, not just in the Utd match but in general, however he is already 28 and has never played outside Denmark so a move now seems unlikely. Watford might not be considered a move up from Copenhagen, but signing players from there shouldn't be impossible in the Championship.
Might be an opportunity for the club to do some shopping. Any affordable players we could get? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...Jose-Gaya-feel-effects-Covid-19-pandemic.html
I may have a sniff, I could do with someone around here to mow the lawns, wash the cars, do some shopping, walk the dog, and this and that
If we weren't in debt and faced with losing 50% of our TV income then yes. In fact any firesale competition like this will just hinder us realising cash for our valuable stars.
