I, for one, have always thought of Palace as a "number two".

Liverpool are despicable. Offering a pittance for Lewis hoping they can get him on the cheap. I hope Norwich even if they are one of our rivals for promotion stand firm and tell Cesspool to do one.

We need to keep Sarr. Automatic promotion is a must along with the financial reward to keep Sarr one season into post promotion before selling him when his value and that of the transfer market should be far more buoyant.

They did the same thing with Van Dijk.

A classless club that deliberately low-ball to induce transfer requests but demand mega-bucks for their own.

We like to low-ball teams as well...except we don't have anywhere near the clout required to get these players to join us ;)

Not really relevant but thinking back to how Adel Taarabt destroyed the championship for QPR a few years ago, just imagine what Sarr could do. I don't expect him to stay but If we do manage to keep him, not only would it be a huge statement of intent, we'll be in for a hell of a season in contrast to last season.

Sarr and Hughes should be the last ones out the door. But if the red scum are trying to turn his head they better cough up what's required and no fook about with stupid offers. It didn't end well for them when they tried it on with Udinese for Zielinski.

I am very much of the opinion that Sarr will not be here next season regardless (something I have already expressed) whether he's sold for a satisfactory fee or sent to Udine for the year, but at the same time there is some mild and partly applicable precedent for something like him playing for us, and that would be Wolves.

It's true, we don't have mental Chinese owners or a very dodgy link with a super agent who sort of controls us, but the bare fact is that Ruben Neves was a 20-year-old Porto player who'd already made appearances for the Portuguese national team when he agreed to move to Wolves, who at the time had been in League One more recently than the Premier League.

Obviously Mendes' influence will have been a big factor, but realistically money has to have played a very large (if not the largest) part in the equation. If we are to have any hope of it occurring at all, Gino will certainly have to play his cards very right in terms of keeping his sugarbaby sweet.

He left France to play in the prem. The team he left are in the champs league this season. Not a chance he will play in the champ. Trying to force him to stay would just result in a sulky moody non-English-speaking teenager moping round the place, losing value. He will leave by sale or loan.

But you have love the irony of a Watford fan describing Wolves signing international players who they seemingly have no intention of selling as the result of a link with a a 'dodgy super agent'.

Wish we had a link like that.

Not many clubs who have got that kicking around at the moment. Would Liverpool pay that kind of money for possibly, a back up to Salah?
It's a hard one to call but I believe he will be lining up for us the first game of the season. If he's still here come October when the window shuts, I don't know.

I don't see what's ironic about that? Whether you'd like it for yourself/ourselves or not, and I doubt there are many fans who would complain, it doesn't change what he is and how he operates.

Not sure why everyone is picking on clubs low-balling teams, everyone does it. How many of you have bought property? You see the asking price is say 300k - You don't just say "Yup! Deal".

There's many factors at play here - Liverpool probably chance their arm and think Norwich need cash quickly - lets test them. I'm not sure why more games aren't played like this - for example Gino and Scotts message - They said they're sorry etc - Why not put a throw away line in there saying financially they feel we're alright, and they have a plan - or words to that effect. Even if its crap it'll make teams think a bit about what they offer, and how much we really need the cash.

Here's another scenario - What if the Sarr deal is below what we want, but Liverpool offer us a couple of promising youngsters/fringe players on loan to help us come back up?

There are a lot of clubs with 50 million. United for example looks to lose out on Sancho. They'd pay 50 just to keep Liverpool from getting him.

Seems Palace don't even want to offer more than £8mil + £4mil add-ons for Eze the tight buggers. No way they're playing close to what we'd demand for Sarr.

  22. Ainzrocker

    Ainzrocker First Year Pro

They might if they sold Zaha. It's not in a clubs interest to just sit on that much cash if it puts their Premier League status at risk, so a lot will have their money tied up in their playing assets. They probably need to sell before they can invest that kind of money.

You are all mad, £50m for Sarr, maybe in a year or two if he progresses, but right now, especially in the current climate, we would be lucky to get £30m.

Should be seen as a sign of how lucky we are to have the Pozzos. We've been conditioned to expect top dollar for all of our talent, regardless of the situation the club is in. Absolute champagne problems.

Given what we paid for him why would we bother to sell for £30m?

  27. Ainzrocker

    Ainzrocker First Year Pro

Because the market has changed, our need to balance the books has changed, we need to at least consider whether we might be able to get back up without him, which wasn't relevant when we bought him...

There are a lot of perfectly acceptable reasons to sell for £30m whether or not that's what we bought him for.

  28. Supertommymooney

    Supertommymooney Squad Player

Not when he's near the start of a long contract.

And as yet we don't know how much the market has changed. It could be prices don't drop but only Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool spend significant sums on new purchases.

I totally agree we should not sell him, and hopefully we won't because there is no way we will £50m for him and we would be very lucky to even get our money back right now.

Er, wages. Plus he may go into a strop if he is not in prem let alone CL and we could probably get 3 decent championship players for that money

  31. Chumlax

He's got four years left on his contract, and the Pozzos own another club that plays in one of the 'big four' top divisions. If they don't want to sell him, they won't, and if they don't get value/a profit, why exactly would it be in their interests to?

He's probably enhanced his reputation performance-wise this season too by showing he can perform in the Premier League; a step up from Ligue Un. We won't be 'lucky' to get our money back, we either will, or we won't be 'getting' anything.

Precisely. When it comes to transfers they keep a very cool head, they don’t panic. They’re also not completely mercenary when it comes to cashing in and making profit, they could’ve sold both Igahlo and Doucoure for more but kept them both as at the time they were a benefit to the team. Igahlo deteriorated and went for less, and Doucoure won’t ever realise the value we could’ve got from Everton. So they aren’t averse to taking a risk even when there is guaranteed profit on the table. They won’t panic and take £30m, even if the player wants to leave.

Him being on a long contract does not alter the fact that we need to balance the books for next season. If anything it just makes him a long term l financial liability. Think someone else mentioned that we probably need to recoup £40-£50m in sales ahead of the new season, and if so we have to sell some players.

Personally I prefer the option of £40m now or, if no one will pay that, loan out to a higher league club for a year and try and get up without him - keep the player happy and bring him back with 3 years to go on his contract once we're back up. Best chance of maximising our investment as we shouldn't need him to get out of the Championship.

However, my point was that depending on view on the risk vs reward, it's a perfectly reasonable thing to do to look at £30m as an acceptable offer. If you think the market is done in, we need the cash and we don't need him for the Championship you might reasonably think 'take the money'. I wouldn't and I don't think Gino would but it's not a wild idea.

  34. Steve Leo Beleck

If we could loan him out, get all his wages covered and a bit of a loan fee that could be the best outcome. He's got a long contract so we don't need to sell, but he's clearly (and rightly) not going to want to mess about in the Championship. I doubt he has a wage reducing clause as I'd imagine we'd sold it to him as wanting to be an upwardly mobile team aiming for Europe. So it's not just the transfer fee we need to worry about now, we'll need to reduce wages across the board.

I might be wrong but I don’t remember any talk of any club being interested in Ighalo while he was at his peak in that first half season in the PL.
