Got a broken foot apprantley according to his own Facebook page. Probably played his last game for eur club then.
That'll be him done. He's been very good for us and was an exceptionally talented player before his legs ran out. Mad as a box of frogs and I'd imagine not easy to work with but he always seemed to care and it seemed to hurt him a lot when we lost which is rare to see as a fan.
Yep, came close to POTS the other year and hated losing. I wish more of our players had his character. Also scored a couple of vital goals. One of the best signings of the Pozzo era IMO. Obviously a section of our fans will never forgive him for trying to con the ref into thinking he was injured which led to a goal, but they are too brainless to understand what he was trying to do (9 times out of 10 it would have worked).
His wife has been posting on Twitter recently that they are packing up and leaving the UK (I think I saw a German emoji or something) so pretty much confirmation he won't be here next season, as expected.
His final game should have been the cup final last year. Won't exactly miss him, but he was one of the better defenders during the Prem era. (Not that the bar is high)
Another man that gets far to much stick on here IMO. In fact I wish he had played last night, because one thing you can be sure about is he will always play with passion. OK he is probably past his best but he always gives 110% when he pulls on a yellow shirt, which is more than most members of our team do. In fact many of you are slagging off our team off right now for their lack of passion on the pitch, and that is one thing you can't accuse Holebas of.
Agreed. Got off to a sticky start here (a sticky first 3 years arguably), but was fantastic last season, and even though his legs have gone, he's still put in a shift any time he's been on the pitch this season. Perhaps should have used him as a wing-back in a 3-5-2 yesterday, although that's probably clutching at straws
I've always liked Holebas, but his legs were shot this season and having him as our first choice/reserve left back was poor anticipation from the club.
and he's gone I never really liked him....rude, moody, a bit crap.....however I think I'm going to miss him!!
I will always remember him for that corner where Pereyra volleyed it home - However, i'll mainly remember it for the Arab commentator stretching out his name. "Ho-Le-Bas PEREYRA!"
It goes to show that they do hear the talk that spreads around fans I guess. Seems clear he feels positively about the club as a whole while bearing a grudge against certain individuals!
Thank you Jose and I hope you have a great future, you always played with passion and determination whenever you wore our yellow shirt. If only the rest of our team showed the passion and effort you always did I honestly believe that we would probably still be a Premier League Club today
One of my favourite players of this Prem era. Bonkers. But a quality left back who definitely had a winner's mentality. Fare well sweet prince.
His legs were definitely gone, and have been for the entirety of this season, but he was proper mental and was a competitive character in a squad full of weak-minded losers. I’ll miss watching him hate every moment of playing for us.
He had a winning mentality. He was one of the few when you watched was not overawed by the thought he was standing to players from Cesspool, Manure, Abu Dhabi and the like. He looked them in the eyes and did not quail. It's a shame NP did not bother to utilize him which I guess he is referring to. He could have played in front of the left back to offer more coverage and provide his trademark whipped crosses. As he did when he came on for the last time against Southampton. The very best of luck to him.
Top trolling of Jose, who's clearly picked up that phrase from reading the forum and therefore included it in his statement.
Jose was just one of a long line of good decent players that became the target for many of our clubs "Boo Boys" I don't get why so many WFC fans seem to turn on some players, for IMO no good reason. I think Jose Holebas was a great player for us and did not deserve the **** a lot of our fans threw at him, and that goes for many other players that our fans have inexplicably turned on over the years. Yes there have been some who might have deserved it, but Jose and many of the others did not IMO!
I too liked Holebas, I guess that some people made up their minds before he kicked a ball because of the way his signing played out.
In addition to the above, another Left Back I also think did not deserve the **** the WFC "Boo Boys" used to give him was Jordan Stewart. In fact there was one season that had the "Boo Boys" not been so set against him he should probably have won our "Player of the Season" award. Furthermore, and talking about that, I also think that Jose Holebas probably should have won POS a couple of seasons or so ago, but did not do so for the same reason as JS.
Well yeah, at least part of being player of the season is being liked/likeable. That's why it's a fan vote rather than an award given out by the coaching staff.
In a nutshell, that was everything that was great about Holebas. We were getting thoroughly outclassed by Arsenal and then £70m+ Pepe had a minor kick out at him and he just stood his ground. Didn't give two ***** about the reputation or the score in the match, just wasn't prepared to take any **** off anyone. It was that moment that fired up the whole team and led to us battering Arsenal and being unlucky to only come away with a point. Few more people with his attitude and we'd have been nowhere the relegation zone.
Has agreed to rejoin Olympiacos. https://www.sport-fm.gr/article/podosfairo/nikolakopoulos-sumfwnia-olumpiakou-me-xolempas/4121698
