Last season we weren't much better! Why you thought that is beyond me. The FA Cup and average league finish papered over an already aging squad, a severe lack of goals and a terrible defence. The only people to blame for this situation are in the board room. Since we have been promoted I have become more and more disconnected from Watford FC to the point where I'm not that bothered what happens anymore. The owners fully deserve it. No youth setup. The constant sacking of the crap managers they appoint. A playing system that is turgid and shyte to watch. A team full of wimps who really don't care. Doesn't help that they are in the main awful footballers to boot. The owners will be kicking themselves that they have the best scouting network in the world and failed to bring in a few decent champ players who could of kept us up. Bring on the free fall. Because we were in the top half for virtually the whole season and gained 50 points 16 points above the relegation zone. So the fact that it is beyond you that someone would think that our squad was good enough is bewildering. We have a youth set up? Our under 18s were in contention to win the Under 18s professional development league this season before lockdown. We also have a number of very talented youngsters playing abroad.
I'm still not sure if Okaka is just on loan to Udinese or if we have actually sold him to them, can anyone confirm this one way or the other?
Thanks UEA. Such a shame because he seems to be playing well for Udinese, and I never felt he had a real chance to prove himself with us.
The 4-2-3-1 formation under Pearson, the always playing Deeney, the bringing on a replacement late in the game, the no guarantee that he would be the sub chosen, the rank performance of the team since the restart. He'd have been lucky to have got 1.
Maybe. He's got an element of unpredictability about his play, unlike Deeney. I think he would do a job, even up front on his own for 20/30 minutes.
Not rose tinted nostalgia in the slightest, I always thought he looked pretty decent when he played. Was it the first game he played for us when he had a decent goal disallowed? I seem to remember he came on and was a right menace. Then of course there was this goal, not something in either Troy or Andre’s locker:
It’s unprecedented times. It wasn’t long ago, that everyone wanted the Okaka to feck off. But now....
Never wanted Okaka to feck off, just didn’t see the point in him being here when Deeney is untouchable. I’d rather Deeney fecked off tbh....
I made a post appraising the squad last summer where I said I rated Okaka more than Deeney. His problem for us was that he was always injured though. In fairness to the club, it didn’t feel worthwhile keeping him on our books if he was only going to be fit for 5 games a season (see Daryl Janmaat).
Okaka was no good for starting and finishing multiple games. Always looked annoyingly short of fitness. Off the bench however...
Let's get real and put aside the skewed nostalgia, Okaka was complete and utter crap. We didn't need to keep him, we needed to sign another competent centre forward.
For some unknown reason I always link Okaka and Success, just did a quick wiki on Success, an incredible 18 goals from 127 starts, as a forward that's some of the worst i've ever seen. Yet we hold his cards and sold Okaka.
Given that Success is Nigerian and the storied history of birthday fudging with players from there in the past , there's a non-zero possibility he's closer to 44 than 24.
