As a compliment to the Favourite TV thread especially as people may need a bit of new content. There is good content on YouTube beyond the narcissistic ‘personalities’ trying to hawk you stuff.

Kicking off, Jay Foreman’s interesting and witty looks at London, this one ‘Where does London stop’ features Watford heavily,

Then musician and producer Rick Beato’s series ‘What makes this song great?’ Which deconstructs classic (mostly rock, but some other) songs. This one is ‘Free Falling’ by Tom Petty.

Finally the mad world of Geowizard who normally just plays Geoguessr (a game where you are randomly thrown onto a spot on Google streetview and have to guess where you are). He also takes on physical challenges and this pointless, but entertaining saw him attempt to cross Wales in a completely straight line. You’ll enjoy his company or hate him with a vengeance I suspect.

Really like watching the trick shots on Dude Perfect (despite the high 5-ing!), it’s been picked up and commercialised now which has made it more corporate but still fun.

If you are interested in art or expanding your knowledge then the National Gallery have videos which last half an hour with an expert on the artist dissecting one of their works. Very informative especially for those wanting to know more. From the familiar like Turner Rain,Steam & Speed to one of the lesser known American school who died rather young due to his appendix George Bellows.

Very good. I do warm more to Remi Galliard though. Less whooping and more daftness. And then he went on to do Mario Cart too.

Not on youtube but the BBC's moving pictures is a marvellous way to utilise a tablet/ipad and 30 mins of your time. You open up BBC sounds, open a very high resolution image from google and off you go...

The kimono and Bellows's 'Men of the Docks' are personal favourites.

Straight line challenge is back. Geowizard has another go at crossing a country in a completely straight line, beginning just as lockdown does.

    Pointless, arbitrary but engrossing.

I follow a few YouTube channels.

The Lock Picking Lawyer is very addictive:

310 Pilot is very interesting if you're at all into flying:

I've been watching The True Geordie's poker antics recently:

How Ridiculous, very annoying Australians but the slow mo's are well worth it:

I love Rick Beato. The only problem is when he picks out some genius piece of guitar work, it makes we want to give up playing! But his enthusiasm is real and infectious.

The videos that I really don't get are random young people listening to old music. I quite like them though!

That's great! I'll look him up. It's true, no one's heard a flute like that.

Yeah Rick Beato is very good. I particularly like "Losing my Religion". It's a song I loved, am very familiar with, probably have played to death. But Rick's analysis gave it a new life for me and made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.

Some great stuff. The lock picking lawyer is Sheldon World of Flags type youtube. Very good.
Always like flight stuff and didn't the Geordie guy once give an hilarious reaction to the third WFC win over Toon in a year a few years back? He's very funny.
The last one could be the most Australian thing on the net.

I loved this. He doesn't say much, but there's that feeling you get, when someone hears one of your all time beloved songs for the first time and loves it too, that just feels good.

I was surprised that he name checked Grand Funk and the Allman Bros Band, but hadn't heard of Jethro Tull. I realise that both of the former are US bands that were big in that same period, but Jethro Tull were probably bigger in America than they were in the UK - they won a grammy for best metal band once!

    Gonna get Aqualung out again.

This guy should check out Thick as a Brick.

If you have a spare half an hour and want to spend time learning about philosophy then this might be the channel for you. Covers philosophy from the Pre-Socratics to the modern day and the other major schools outside of Europe in India and China.

There is the second ‘mission’ linked in a later post.

A bit more extreme is Iohan Gueorguiev who rode his bike from Canada all the way down.

The power of music and memory. Sadly this lovely lady and former ballerina recalling her role as Odette/Odile passed away last year but shows the value of music in alleviating the suffering of those with neurodegenerative diseases. Transported back across the decades.

    This is excellent.
Whenever I hear old songs on the radio it can transport me back to a moment in time .
Take "come on Eileen" for example . It reminds me of a holiday in Yarmouth during the summer of '82.
There are organisations who go around homes for the elderly who sing to those
who are struggling with their memory etc because the benefits cannot be underestimated.

Danny Macaskill finds the one day a year on the Isle of Skye it’s not chucking it down, rides his bike and wears some shoes. The whole thing is nicely shot and he gets on the ridge from about 2.33.

If like me you enjoy anything about space or spaceflight, then Scott Manely or Everyday Astronaut are channels worth a watch. Particularly interesting is the continuing coverage of SpaceX and Elon Musk's development of their new Starship. It's fascinating in my opinion.

No More Jockey's, a game created by Tim Key, Alex Horne and Mark Watson is one of my new favourites. Played it on a long car journey recently as well - it's good fun.

‘Sina Drums’ tells us what makes Ringo such a great drummer.

Why is Sina so big on Ringo? Answer, her Dad was in a German Beatles tribute band.
