Courtesy of some Arsenal muppet. Certainly has promise and vice captain at such a young age is nothing to be sniffed at.

I think he seems promising. The club have done well to get him on a free should he join - maybe there's already been a secretive agreement in place with the player for a while.

He seems to have the flicks and passing of Capoue with the stride of Doucoure. The main question mark for me from what I'd briefly seen a couple of years ago was with his defensive work-rate, but if he can match that of the other two then we could have a decent replacement in future.

Watford have signed Pape Gueye from Le Havre on a five-year contract. The 21-year-old defensive-midfielder signed a pre-contract at the start of the year and he will join the club on a free in June. [@francefootball via @Nabil_djellit]

    Pape Gueye:
    • NO contract signed with Watford - confirmed to me by his lawyer
    • Gueye’s former agent discussed with Watford many times but was dismissed by the player for failing to represent his best interests
    • Talks ongoing with Watford but nothing is fixed

I would say he hasn't signed, but it is still a possibility as per Freddie Paxton.

If this is true and we have signed him, and we send him to Udinese, they'll be no more excuses for Giraldi as he's more than good enough for the PL.

Also, Arsenal fans thought they'd signed him already and are crying. A beautiful sight even if it doesn't happen.

    FranceFootball translation;

Mercato: Pape Gueye (Le Havre), direction Watford
Promising midfielder from Le Havre, Pape Gueye will continue his career in the Premier League where Watford awaits him.

While his name has been circulating in recent weeks in some beautiful L1 teams like OM, Pape Gueye signed a pre-contract at the start of the year with Watford. Free in June, he signed up for the next five seasons with the Hornets where Ismailia Sarr is playing. The 21-year-old defensive midfielder has had a great season in L2 (25 games, 2 goals) under Paul Le Guen. The native of Montreuil is able to play in several registers (sentry, relay, double pivot). The left-hander has everything to please in England ...

Signs in June? Just in time to save us from relegation!

I expect he'll have a similar immediate impact to the one our last saviour JP had when he arrived in January.

At least he already speaks French. He’ll feel somewhat at home when we send him on loan to the Belgian 2nd Division a day before the season starts.

From what I have seen on here he looks pretty good, so lets hope it is true that he is signing for us, and that he lives up to his potential.

He's only moving up from France so should quickly get used to the slightly cooler weather.

Guy I know who works in football recruitment had this to say about him:

"Pape Gueye is a player we have watched a lot. He is physically very impressive, tall, strong and with good pace. His most impressive attribute is his long accurate diagonal passing. He very rarely loses a header so would prove a very useful addition to the squad on defensive set-pieces or against opponents playing long straight balls.

Would have been better at a top championship club for a year to get used to the pace but will be PL level. Lovely long passes, sits in and breaks it up. You've done the research too at Watford as most sites listed him as 2021 but he didn't re-sign. Told all our clients but he wanted PL."

The reports for Pape Gueye do sound pretty promising. A potential replacement for Capoue? He turns 32 in the summer so maybe only has a couple of years playing at the level and speed he's at currently.

An excellent signing. Huge potential. Bleed him into the team depending on whether or not Doucoure is sold. If Doucoure does leave then he's a great player to come in. Dele-Bashiru moves down the pecking order.

The thought of him and Capoue effortlessly pinging balls over to Sarr & Geri excites me.

Dele-Bashiru needs a loan move whenever a new season starts.
He showed flashes of promise in U23 games but based on those alone he's nowhere near the first XI.

They tried to get him out this (last?!) season but it didn't happen.
Hopefully he'll push on with some competitive football under his belt. There's plenty of time left on his contract, it ends in 2025, so there's no reason other than personal desire not to get a chance here at some point.

I very much doubt Doucoure will leave this summer as I can't see many clubs splashing the cash this summer with what's been happening

I'd still rather we kept Doucoure.

Given Capoue's age, unfortunately he's unlikely to be able to keep on putting in his superhuman performances every week for many more season, so Gueye is as likely to be his eventual replacement as Doucoure's.
