The guy behind the best 'lump' of the Star Wars Franchise* (Gennady Tartakovsky) has a dialogue-free adventure about a caveman and a dinosaur (wahey!!!!!!!!!!) and it looks amazing:

*'The Clone Wars' is back in February:

We’re doing Peaky Blinders at the minute, it’s really good but we’re into series 2 or 3 now and the Italian mob boss played by the dad from the remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is possibly the least threatening/convincing character of all time.

    Where is this showing please?

I'm on my second run through of the whole lot - about half way through.

I have to say, Season 13 was the weakest yet, but hope springs eternal that they pick it up again for 14.

Season 13 was a bit meh , like you I have just watched through the whole thing again, it’s such a funny tv series but trying to explain to anybody why is very difficult

Watching on a streaming app on my firestick - not sure if any UK channels show it

  11. Just finished season 3 of Goliath on Amazon. It was alright, but then I've never seen anything actually bad with Billy Bob Thornton in it. Also watched Good Omens which was pretty good - David Tennant chewing up the scenery channelling Bill Nighy.

I felt it was 'standard 'Gaiman' doing 'Gaiman' stuff. As a writer of comics he's unsurpassed - his other, 'proper', literature is really, really 'meh'. Much the same as when he's involved in adaptations of his own stuff it just appears 'meh' such as 'Good Omens' and 'American Gods'. For two pretty good character actors - there was something severely lacking between the two leads. TBF, none of Pratchett stuff filmed has been particularly good either...

  13. I had that down to the repressed nature of Sheen's character. It wasn't outstanding (nearly ditched it after 2nd episode) but good fun and of course deeply offensive to the 20,000 Evangelicals who protested to Netflix (it was on Amazon)

Finished series 3 of 13 Reasons Why

    Didn't enjoy the ending though:

Not entirely sure why I didn't like the ending, just thought it was a crap way to finish the series. Also found it a bit of a stretch that Monty would die in jail so soon... unless his dad put out a hit on him or something but can't see it.

I think it is set up for a dreadful 4th series if I'm being honest. What story lines are there?
Tyler's guns were found - big deal.
Tony's family coming back to USA? Not interested
Monty has an alibi? Yea - that's fair. Would take about one episode for that guy to go to the police, then what? Do we just recap series 3 again?

If I haven't said before "Succession" has been brilliant. Need to watch from the start of last series though.

I'm really late to the party here, but I've just finished watching The Walking Dead Season One to Season Nine.

    First seven seasons -- A M A Z I N G

Season eight and nine - WTF? A boring drawn out war epilogue followed by the death of the best character followed by a time jump? Renewed for another season again, so the ratings must be good I guess. Kind of lost interest towards the end of season nine, which is a shame because before that the writing and acting was on par with some of Hollywood's best work.

Yeah, Kristen Bell is brilliant, so is Ted Danson. I also like Chetee(sp?) and the Janet computer girl, she's funny.

The way they disguise the F word with FORK is clever too. I've seen the first two seasons, watching the third soon. Brilliant show, needs much more publicity.

I put this on the last page of this thread but have now finished Top Boy. It's the best British crime series I've ever seen, really shows up things like Line of Duty and The Bodyguard for their lack of authenticity.

If you start on Netflix make sure you watch the two old seasons first (weirdly titled Top Boy: Summerhouse) otherwise you'll miss out on a lot of the plot for the new Netflix season (which is the best of the lot). It's the closest thing on British TV I've ever seen to The Wire, with the way it knits together brutal crime storylines, anti-heroes, social commentary and fantastic shots of life in the margins of a big city. And a great final scene...

I think the issue was the perception that he's there for the laydeeeez. Lots of smiles and then deep soulful looks into the camera whenever he raises a serious point. Blurred soft filter effect applied.

I don’t know that as soon as he’s interviewed someone in a difficult situation he doesn’t say ‘right **** off, I’m off’. But he tells good stories and open people’s minds to the shytey things done in far flung places.

Monoglot imperialist patronising pootle he is!

I've so far not been able to bear yet another identikit simpering Simon ramble through countries of which he has zero knowledge of the language, history and culture - except of course the USA and Canada, which he thinks are great. Has he done meeting up with cowboys yet? He always does cowboys. Great for dreamy shots at sunset around the campfire, faux-Palestinian scarf a-flapping slowly in the breeze.

I suppose I will have to endure the episodes where he insults and patronises poor Latino countries and is wilfully insolent and arrogant. It's evident that he doesn't like poor countries nearly so much and can't wait to scuttle off back to his international class hotel.

He should go the whole hog and replace the White Stuff semi-hippy gear with a proper colonial cream linen suit and Panama hat. Shoot it in black and white and you couldn't tell it from 70 years ago.

What are his programs supposed to be anyway? Educational? A travelogue? Light entertainment?

  28. I imagine it's already been covered on here a lot, but I'm a late adopter blitzing my way through Peaky Blinders on iPlayer.

Seasons 1-4 are going off iPlayer next week and I've watched the last four episodes of season 2 tonight so will be churning through the next 12 episodes of 3 and 4 in the next few days.

Pretty good watching. Good costumes. Great story lines, though it does seem to jump around a bit randomly sometimes. Cillian Murphy is really good in this.

    Loads of twists and turns.

    Good stuff.

Just finished series 3 Filbert, and totally agree about the Italian... about as threatening as the bloke from the Go Compare adverts.
Tom Hardy on the other hand, is brilliant as the Jewish mob boss Alfie Solomons.

They never really shifted on, for me the story line with Michael was the most fascinating, but they had too many threads to give it more prominence than it deserved.

I'm halfway through season 2 of Twin Peaks for the first time since it came out in 1990. Watching it as context to season 3 that came out a couple of years ago. Loving it but can't pretend to be sure what the hell is going on half the time!

  33. I loved rewatching it a couple of years ago. Just so weird and crazy but with some kind of random story underneath.

I think I read that there were a lot of off screens conflicts that screwed up the story a bit and ultimately lead to no third season at the time but I still loved it.

Binge watched series 6 recently as I managed to miss it when shown originally and now caught up with the first four episodes of series 7.

It's by no means perfect but having more than one story playing out through the police, a judge and lawyer over each series keeps it moving in interesting ways.

Not a series. But the documentary Tell me who I am. is some watch. Can't say to much otherwise I'll ruin it for people. But fair play to the twins for telling their story.
