    Godzilla King Of Monsters. Pretty awful. Godzilla was reasonable and cogent. This was anything but. The dialogue was inane and nothing you would expect senior military commanders or scientists to come up with. The characters were so flimsy and under developed you felt nothing for them. The science in the film was laughable as was basic aerodynamics with the giant flying Argo. Just a series of monsters punching each other up akin to the Japanese films of the fifties. Truly vacuous with a lamentable back story of husband and wife trying to get back together and once could predict 'Mommy you're a monster' as surely as another bleak day in front of goal for Troy Deeney. Charles Dance tried his best but sad to see such a fine actor cast in such drivel.

    Mind you this is pretty as far from what I normally watch in the film genre. Remove your brain while watching.

    Watched us on the box, followed by a long dog walk, followed by a roast, followed by the first Die Hard with a bowl of jelly and a brew.

    Perfection. Best film set at Christmas and one of the best action movies of all time.

    Went to see Once Upon A Time in Hollywood... last night. Loved it. I'm a big Tarantino fan so it really entertained me.

    On a whim my kids and I watched this last night:

    A very funny look at a group who are trying to refine, using very intelligent/subversive media/PR methods, the US (government's) attitude between the separation of church and state. Highly, highly recommended.

    IT Chapter 2

    Not as good as the first part but still decent. Three hours long though, prepare for numb bottoms. Oh and Bill Skarsguard is brilliant as Pennywise.

    Agree with what you have said. Seemed to be the same movie in large parts, just with the characters grown up.

    Far too long as well.

    Me and the better half watched a couple of films yesterday starting with Ghost Stories. I'd heard good things about the film and felt almost short changed up until the final act when it bought the whole film together. Very clever example of British horror.

    Next was Mama, another horror film that wasn't necessarily scary but good none the less. The kids were creepy and it was a good story.

    Last up was In Bruges. Brilliant film, should be regarded as a modern day classic.

    I quite enjoyed it but I had a similar reaction - I wondered if the ending and loose ends were setting it up for a possible sequel?
    Have you seen "Get Out"? It's by the same director but, in my view, a much superior film.

    Went to see this with a friend and our kids in the holidays. Thought it was OK but pretty much instantly forgettable and, with hindsight, probably wouldn't have bothered paying to see it. The 15 yr old was asleep within 15 minutes of the film starting. Saw a trailer for "Blinded By the Light" while there, which I thought looked like it might be better.

    Watched Its Kind Of A Funny Story last night.

    The ending wasn't too bad but not sure I''d recommend it.

    One of the best films I've seen in a long time and it had no car chases or fight scenes to keep my simple mind amused.
    I'm not a massive Queen fan but I'm of an age that I remember Live Aid, Kenny Everett, The discovery of HIV.
    Great casting and the acting is superb.

    Went to see this the other evening. I guess cinematic quality is in the eye of the beholder as I found it utter utter dogs droppings. Far too long and not at all scary. It’s done well at the Box Office but is nowhere near the original TV film. I find sequels always struggle when they portray the original child cast as adults.

    Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is a good watch. I found the acting better than the actual storyline which doesn’t really go anywhere. But that’s standard Tarantino and I kinda love him for it. Brad Pitt is particular is very good. Margaret Qualley is extremely easy on the eye too - as I told my wife to much disgust.

    If you like a little 80's horror I'd say give Childs play a view. It's funnier than some comedies I've seen. Crawl was OK too. Even though the lead actress huffed and puffed more than Phil Mitchell. They're not brilliant but I honestly say I enjoyed watching them over the last couple of days.

    This is another I've heard good things about.

    I think the problem with some of the most recent Hollywood horrors is that they are trying to be a bit too clever/artsy. Give me the Woman in Black any day of the week.

    That scared the **** out of me. I think it was a 12 when it came out, I went to see it at the cinema when I was a student not really knowing what to expect just curious about Dan Radcliffe. Loads of kids ended up leaving in floods of tears because Harry Potter it was not.

    I can confirm it’s much better in the theatre. I’ve seen it twice, several years apart, and would highly recommend it. The film and Daniel Ratcliffe were fine but I found the scary sequences a little over the top and a bit clichéd.

    Watched In The Tall Grass at the weekend. It's from a novel by Stephen King so I should have expected some weird stuff and that's what I got. Strangely though I actually quite liked it

    I also watched this at the weekend and found it OK, probably not because it's really any good, but because it was the day after watching that absolute abomination Midsommer.
