Why is Deeney STILL untouchable?

Presumably The Deeney Turn is conducted in slow motion in the centre circle.

Wellbeck is a massive upgrade on Deeney but he could pick up a serious injury at any time.

A lot of his PL goals have been penalties. I'd guess 20-25%

He actually wasn't THAT slow or THAT bulky in his best Championship seasons - he's just got heavy and slow in every Prem season but the first. What's sadder is he seems to have lost that work rate and desire. Many time in The Championship he'd be harrying down defenders and I remember thinking "I love this guy!!" and now you barely see him attempt a sprint.

I still think he's more of an unorthodox #10, a very, very, very poor mans Wayne Rooney if you like? Because believe it or not, his best attributes are his passing, his vision and his touch.

Put Sarr, Deulofeu either side of him and Gray in front and I think Troy could provide 8-10 assists in a season if he'd be willing to put in the effort to support Doucs and Capoue with the press, harrying and defending.

That allows much more flexibility. When playing a tougher team you can resort to the 4-2-2-2 with Hughes & Pereyra wide and GD upfront instead of Gray. You could drop Deeney and put in a third CM, you could put Pereyra in the hole behind Gray. And this all without counting Welbeck as I just don't see him being fit enough for long enough to plan around but if he is fit then we have even more ways of playing.

There are so many alternative formations that we could play and different ways to lining up to get the best out of our best players, yet Javi is persisting with the same old rubbish that doesn't even seem to suit our best players which is why it's even more frustrating watching us at the moment.

Whilst that position may suit some of Deeney’s traits better, he’d be required to do a heck of a lot of running. I just think Quina, Pereyra, Hughes and even Doucoure would be better suited to play that role.

Just seeing Gracia’s comments about Welbeck post-game from the weekend...

Welbeck has said he thinks he’ll be fully up to speed after a week’s full training this week. But Gracia?

“It will depend on other things. If other players keep a high level then some players have to wait for their moment.”

He’s surely not suggesting that Deeney and his fellow strikers have been playing to a high level?

    Or Clevs.

If you have to play Deeney, CB is maybe the best option.

Genuinely think he would be far more effective as a a sub.

Deulofeu rarely, if ever, lasts more than 60 mins - Everton fans told us this when we signed him and boy was it true! Deeney could be reasonably assured of still getting 30 mins every week.

Short memories & the usual fickle tripe you come to expect from Nath & his brigade of ranting doomsayers. At least they are consistent.

There there, as soon as we get a win it will all be ok again.

It used to be a thing of beauty to see a defender jogging along facing his own goal waiting for a bouncing ball to drop, then suddenly realising Troy was charging him down, panicking, misjudging the bounce and watching Deeney run out the other side with the ball.

I'm definitely not anti-Troy, I don't think many are. But if playing him isn't working he should be dropped or subbed, leaving him on and resorting to hoofball doesn't resolve anything. Unfortunately Javi sees it differently.

Or even worse, Gracia only sees Welbeck as a rotation possibility with Pereyra and Delboy, and not as a centre forward who can swap with TD.

    - A joint record, embarrassing cup final defeat
    - 6 losses in a row
    - 19 goals conceded in that time
    - 2 goals scored in that time
    - A manager clearly playing favourites with consistently poor performers in the squad and showing complete and utter tactical inflexibility and a refusal to adapt despite this dismal run of form

These are the things that don't matter people!

    COYH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shame you're not running the club with all this conviction, I'm sure you would get a top 10 finish & win the FA cup.

Or, on the flip side, if you dare to have an opinion or input that isn't all sunshine and rainbows, then you get branded as "fickle", talking "tripe" and part of a "brigade of ranting doomsayers".

How dare anyone have a bad word to say about the club/Pozzo/Gracia/Deeney/transfers etc? We didn't even have a club in 10,000 BC so don't be so ungrateful.

Sorry, I thought I was supposed to be the one "ranting tripe"?

Isn't ironic how those like you, who take such joy in getting up on their high horse so frequently, also prove themselves to actually be the ones most intolerant to any view but their own, and resort to the oh so witty and mature "summer holidays will be over soon, kid" type comments in response?

    Embarrassing, really.

Think you might not understand & could be missing the point.

Anyone who rants & raves, to the degree you were, shouting to get the manager sacked after 1 game says everything you need to know. Every club has them & frankly you just point to being one of those spuds. Your use of GIF's further reinforces this I'm afraid.

So, basically, you're reaffirming what I said previously? Really what you've just wrote is:

"Anyone who disagrees with my own personal outlook, opinion or feelings towards the club is wrong and I will not tolerate anything that I personally consider to be a negative and/or unwarranted opinion, because I am right and you are not".

Again, up on your high horse whilst exuding intolerance. If you think losing the last 6 games in a row, conceding a boat load, struggling to score ourselves and a refusal to adapt tactically is OK then yay for you. I don't.

Please stop using the "after one game" line as well. You're purposely ignoring the explanations as to why I and others feel the way we do about the manager and our current situation to fit your agenda. It's not based on one game at all, but then you already know that.

You make some fair points (if you're for real). No, we shouldn't all necessarily be happy-clappy all the time. But the sheer relentlessness of your negativity is somewhat wearing. We're supposed to be supporters of the club after all.

Correct, and I am no less of a "supporter" of the club just because I believe our manager may not be the person for the job going forward (again, not at all based on one game or just the start of this season), and that it's time to move on from underperforming relics like Deeney.

The mindset on here seems effectively to be that if you smile, clap along and blindly paper over any potential cracks or cause for negativity and display mindless positivity at all times then you're a true "supporter", but dare to question the club in any meaningful way and you're a Luton fan in disguise.

I agree with you on Deeney being past his sell-by date, that we haven't (or Gino hasn't), for far too long now, taken action to properly strengthen our defence and that questions can now be asked of Javi particularly regarding his somewhat strange reluctance to vary personnel and tactics.

But you're relentless mate. In the 'window' you constantly banged on about how Gino was a f.cking idiot who didn't have a clue what he was doing. You could of course do much better. Well he's a businessman, and a football businessman to boot, who rescued us from the dead and has given us the best years our club has had since GT. And his family have kept their local, small town club (roughly the same size as Watford), in the top flight in Italy for 24 consecutive seasons. Including three in the Champion's League and another eight in the Europa League/UEFA Cup. So show a bit of respect eh? All we got from you at the end of the 'window', when Gino pulled off a couple of major coups up front in the last few days, was a somewhat grudging acknowledgement.

Now I'm sure Gino's now finally fully aware that he's taken his eye off the ball regarding strengthening the defence. And Javi will be under the microscope as well with, no doubt, potential replacements being considered as we speak should a change be deemed necessary. Let's hope we get to the New Year, still in contention, and watch out for some real action concerning recruitment to the back line in January.

I've no idea for how long you've 'supported' WFC. Maybe you have no recollection of when we've had really bad times. But I'd contend that we currently have the best midfielders ever and the best front line certainly since the days of Barnes, Blissett, Jenkins and Callaghan.

I asked you on another thread if you would point me in the direction of any post you have ever written that was positive. As of yet, you have singularly failed to do so. Perhaps you could do so now?

Sorry to say you've made that classic error of going down a rabbit hole that doesn't exist. It's not about you being any more or less of a supporter. If you have the view to sack the manager after 1 game so be it, that is your right, only need to say it once, you just seem to write post after post winging how much you hate everything, nothing constructive just ranting & raging for the sake of it.

People can make their own minds up without all your vitriol trying to preach to them that you're right?!
