Quite an entertaining game tonight. In typical England style we managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. 1-0 up with 10 men going into injury time then let France score twice - with the winner coming from a Wan-Bissaka own goal in the 5th minute of the added on period. Mind you France did miss 2 penalties so maybe our luck was due to run out.
I'm clearly not seeing what everyone else sees. I don't rate him at all. A couple of decent performances last season but nothing consistently special. He's just young and English.
He was "consistently special" though - he was in the top 3 PL players last season for both number of tackles and number of interceptions. He was also dribbled past only 10 times in the entire season - 3rd of all PL players that contested 50 or more tackles. He was named Palace's 'Player of the Season' (ahead of Zaha). Defensively he was the best full-back in the league, that's hardly even a debate. https://www.whoscored.com/News/n53c...y-up-Wan-Bissaka-offer-but-have-other-options https://www.squawka.com/en/features/aaron-wan-bissaka-to-man-utd-transfer-analysis https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/03/08/aaron-wan-bissaka-became-effective-defender-europe/ He's pretty mediocre and overly conservative going forwards though (even though he completed the 10th most dribbles in the PL last season), hence while he'll likely end up at Utd and not say City. I'll excuse him the OG yesterday, he managed the whole season at Palace without doing anything as rash.
Was going to say Hoofers on the verge of taking England out. But Tammy Abraham has just equalised. England U21 2-2 Romania U21 with about 5 minutes to play.
4-2 Romania Full time. France just need a point and England are out. He's the howler from Dean Henderson. https://twitter.com/BigTGunner/status/1142134553030668293
What a strange line-up to start with. By all means make changes if you win the first game. But Boothroyd took a tournament game lightly. Foden was clearly a class above when he came on. Sessegnon and Wan-Bissaka also strangely left out. Should be sacked as soon as the final group game is over. The U-21’s job should be a precursor to the senior role - we have very talented young players but a League 2 (probably lower) manager.
He was given a 2 year extension before the tournament and his quote after the game was "They're going to have to carry me out".
Haha. Making out the FA who having been making millions for years can’t afford to tear up his 2 year deal on likely very low wages. The arrogance of it.
Hagi looked pretty good for Romania. Perhaps nonsense rumour doing the rounds on twitter that an as yet unnamed PL club have offered £7mil for him.
I’m sure he tried his best and is a nice guy, but I’m afraid I’m perpetually biased against Boothroyd for delivering the most depressing season in my time supporting Watford.
Romania looked good v Croatia. I only saw the last twenty minutes but it certainly wasn't dull! Why no Foden or AWB?
Romania are a very good side. Don’t know why so many changes though. Having said that you can’t blame Boothroyd for conceding 3 penalties or the sending off in the first game.
Did you not go during Dyche’s final season? Boothroyd also gave us the promotion season which was incredible.
And the goalie throwing one in his net when we've just pulled it back to 2-2 or the OG in injury time! Talk about shooting ourselves in the foot...
I don't think Boothroyd deserves stick from Watford fans. He got us promoted to the Premier League, against all odds. He's clearly limited, that's why he's only managing the national U21 side, but Watford fans should not be knocking him.
2007/08. I also hated the way the previous regime was summarily dismissed but, to be fair to Boothroyd, that certainly wasn’t his fault. In 2005/06 he was lucky to inherit the emerging Ashley Young but I think his greatest achievement that season was to motivate the ultimately nasty Marlon King. Despite the promotion the whole period was not Watford’s finest hour.
Lukebakio playing for Belgium against Italy on Sky Sports. One good shot so far but most of the time he's been on his @rse.
He could be more aggressive at times in trying to get hold of the ball. He's been jogging round most the match like a sulking teenager.
You know the suicide defending in the Nations League which cost England 2 goals? Under 21s showing they're ready to play at full international. England just scored a cracker - 3-2 up
Another 3 goals let in by England - the defence won't be doing their claims for a Senior call up much good.
It's so frustrating that the go past a man and get to the byline and then just turn back. Every single time. Throw a bloody cross in.
Eh? I suggest we aspire rather higher for the coach of the national youth team, many of which won an age group world title.
Is he in charge of the other age groups too? Who all disappointed or didn't even qualify for their tournaments?
