Not looking so good now. Not sure if the pitch is a little iffy but many got themselves in but departed as soon as they tried any fireworks. c300 looks a bit Meh.
Never in doubt. Just over 300 looked a decent score as it wasn't easy to score quickly. Excellent start
Went today and like you thought at the time didn't think it was a great score albeit on a slow pitch maybe due to the fact we have scored so many! Root/Roy and Morgan all got into the 50s before losing their wicket which might disappoint them by their high standards. Stokes was excellent all round - great 89 and a wonderful catch in the field plus 2 wickets. Archer was a real menace with his pace (thankfully Amla was ok) Very solid and impressive start against one of the top teams potentially.
Brutally efficient performance today. It reminded me of the great Australian teams of 20 years ago. Not quite at our best but oceans better than the other lot. On a slowish pitch with the Saffers bowling cutters, 315 was worth 350++.
BBC News - Cricket World Cup: Refunds over delays getting into Trent Bridge https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-48478368 Have a guess which giant ticket selling company fecked up massively today....
Dreadful World Cup so far. SA beaten by 100 and then Pakistan and Sri Lanka skittled for little over 100. Now Afghans 85 for 5. Uncompetitive pap and a lack of application and fortitude by multiple batsmen.
Good grief. It’s as if the batsmen can’t be bothered. Afghans get back into it 160-5. What do the set batsmen do? In space of 6 balls they go after short balls THREE times and sky it on all occasions. One falls safe. Two set batsmen both gone. One the captain as well. Lazy. Lazy. Lazy. The World Cup is going to be a huge let down if the batsmen don’t apply themselves to the situations. Pathetic.
South Africa doing their usual WC bottle job already - losing to Bangladesh. Although they didn't lose the game as such - were never in it!
Looks like a batsmen s paradise at Trent Bridge today. Pakistan 111-1 off 20 overs. I suspect they will need 350+ though
When it's a good batting track you always run the risk of chasing a big total if you put the oppo in and then having to deal with the pressure of having to score at 7 an over. If we were batting first I'm sure 350+ would have been a realistic total on this pitch but psychologically it's difficult to chase that sort of total. I'd always bat first on a good wicket at a high scoring ground.
Well Pakistan did us in the Champions Trophy so maybe just seem to have that hoodoo over us in major tournaments.
In the end we’ll lose you around the same amount of runs we threw away in the field with overthrows, fumbles and missed catches.
Needed someone to step up and just as it looked like someone was, we threw it away. Game was lost in the field. Won't win the world cup playing like that. Why does it appear our golden generations flop in every sport?
I don’t think “not stepping up” was the problem - there were two centurions. As you say, fielding was the issue.
Bowling first at a ground that has produced massive scores seemed a strange one but the Pakistan skipper said he would have bowled as well so what do I know. Unless the pitch and conditions are massively in favour of bowling, yesterday's wasn't, then I would bat first. Scoreboard pressure is a big thing as proved yesterday. Might be the wake up call England needed
