Back up for when Gomes signs up to the priesthood. Which has a certain irony in it as I used to do an awful lot of praying every time he would come out for crosses.
We already have a Swedish keeper who hasn't had any game time - were reportedly looking at another, younger one last week and now this? Why?
Yes yes yes he's crap, yes yes yes he keeps dropping the ball, but is he cheap and does he have a Belgian agent ?
Good God no. So overrated. Made some big mistakes for Roma this season looked bang average against the mighty Norge.
Another story on this today. I saw a few stories resurface yesterday as well. https://www.tribalfootball.com/arti...ening-bid-for-roma-keeper-robin-olsen-4278271
As 2nd Choice, we could do a lot worse if Gomes is set on retiring. Foster has been immense this Season. I imagine Dahlberg wouldn't be too upset learning from his compatriot No. 1.
I don't think he would be a reserve keeper. He'd be replacing Foster as number 1. Foster is only a little bit younger than Gomes; he's at the end of his career too. Olsen is much younger than both of them and old enough to be the club's number 1 for years, until Dahlberg is ready.
He's been dropped for the last 5 games. Before that he was Roma's number 1. His stats are poor though. 27 games played, only 4 clean sheets and 42 goals conceded. I can't see him going from Roma's first choice to Watford's back up keeper.
Well, ability is a different matter. I haven't watched Roma at all so can't speak for his ability. Regardless, there's no way Gino would blow 8 million euros on a bench keeper. If we get him either we're paying less than that or he's intended as the number 1. The club simply can't afford to tie up 8 million on a backup keeper. Personally, I wouldn't be so quick to assume Foster has 2-3 years left in him. In 3 years he'll be 39. While some keepers sustain through to that age without losing ability, most don't. How gracefully Foster ages remains to be seen.
I've said before that I don't really rate him. He's had a horrible time in Rome as his record says. But reports are escalating big time. Gomes came with a dodgy rep but playing for a club who showed him the respect he deserved he flourished with us. Hopefully Olsen could follow the same path. The problem for keepers is you remember the errors more than any other position. Would no doubt be good for Pontus and great competitor for Foster. Got a feeling this will happen once Gomes leaves.
Perhaps as Foster is 36 now and seemingly starting to make increasing numbers of errors, the club are already thinking about getting a replacement for him as well for the not too distant future. Elton would be happy if so. As for Olsen, I thought he looked pretty good at the World Cup., certainly it showed that the talent is there. Clearly not had the best of times at Roma, but at 29 he's still got time to develop as a goalkeeper. It could be a good move.
Denmark were keen to have him as their keeper. His parents are Danish and they actually wanted that he should stay true to his origin.
There's also the two penalties he stupidly gave away on Vardy and Hazard in winter. I'm sure there have been one or two other additional goals he should have done better on in the second half of the season, but I'm not going to watch them all back.
Where does this leave Dahlberg? Surely he'd want to play in the first team some time soon? Is the fact that they're both Swedish relevant at all?
Well then I hope Gracia doesn't have a Swedish granny and is planning to take them both to Chelsea then
