True. Perhaps it was irrelevant if they were losing to a bunch of limp-wristed Brazilian dancers .

Details from Brazil have emerged about the payments we're making to Fluminese for him:

€2.5m fee up front (paid already)
€1.5m if he gets an English work permit
€2m in potential bonuses depending on his performances when he arrives here
€4m in potential bonuses for his performances before coming here

Now for the interesting one: We're paying Fluminese €100k each time he plays 45 minutes (or more) for their first team (which only activates after he's played 10 games).

So as Fluminese are apparently in a bad financial state, we're encouraging them to play and develop the lad for us in return for more money. A fantastically structured deal.

An even better deal for us once the Brazilian club realise you can’t even use Euros in Brazil.

As long as they don't do something stupid like overplay him/ refuse to take him off, and end up causing/ aggravating an injury, then that's a stroke of genius.

Yes, a great plan for us - but I'd have been furious if Man City had influenced our team selections and we'd been induced to pick (say) Sancho before he was ready

We had no say in Sancho leaving, due to a rule that allowed the big sides to steal talented players for minimal compensation.

We put in a bid for Pedro which was accepted. We are now paying the cash stripped club additional money if they play him. It's really not the same thing.

If we were close to administration and bolton said - start marvin sordell and we'll pay an extra 50k per game. We'd have been happy to do so. Win-win

I think it's a win-win because he's clearly talented, but without the payment there'd likely be a lot of pressure to NOT play him in favour of the prospects they were keeping. If he were rubbish we wouldn't have bought him. So the likelihood that he's being elevated abve more deserving players is small. This is insurance against the opposite. Next year he can come play in Europe.

Really? I don't recall him being that bad for us, but perhaps my memory is patchy. His career certainly nosedived after he left, but I think he did OK for us considering his age, and certainly considering the squad we had at a time (crap by Champ standards, probably League 1 quality).

With the benefit of hindsight, some of our managers back then really pulled some rabbits out for us (coupled with Danny Graham being rather good).

Scored 3 goals in last two games Cup/League against Cruzeiro that is the team with the best campaign in the Libertadores so far.

He looks better than Pedro who is the starter and many people want to see called to the nt instead of Gabriel Jesus.

Joao Pedro played only 20 minutes this game. He is U-18. Pedro will go to the olimpic nt so he will get a run of games.

Pedro is also young(21). He was weeks to sign for Madrid last window and had a knee injury. He is a traditional striker. Tall, scores many heads too. Joao Pedro looks more skilfull and with potential to be a superior level of player.

So far so good, but he's still just a teenager. A long long way to go yet. If he does fulfill his potential please can we keep him for as long as we kept Barnes. I'd hate him to just be a one year wonder and a fat cheque at the end of it like Richarlison.

I wouldn't be surprised if that turns out to be the case. One positive thing, he appears to be a bit more naturally suited to playing as a number 9 than Richarlison, though clearly he can also play wide as well. If we can keep him for a while, long term he could maybe become the centre forward we're crying out for.

Btw, someone posted saying that supposedly in a recent interview Joao Pedro said he might even join this summer - anyone got a link? The only recent interview I could find with him was this one from a few days ago, which still talks about him joining in 2020:

    https://globoesporte.globo.com/fute...evela-conselhos-em-papo-com-richarlison.ghtml

I hope it's sooner, rather than later. I think the squad could do with the shot in the arm of more talented young players joining.

Interestingly, in the interview he said he's asked Richarlison for advice about moving to Watford. The Fluminense fans in the comments also suggest that we seem to have got a bargain in signing him for c.£10mil.

I don't understand Portuguese, but he seems a good kid. Seems to have a brighter attitude than the slightly petulant Richie. Shame Gomes won't be here any more though to help him settle in once he eventually joins. Though Quina also speaks Portuguese at least.

First question was if he had any special treatment or protection in the group because he is a kid who came straight from the U-17 to the professional. He said that the coach just sent him to trainning and told him to fight for his place like everybody else.

He was asked if he feels be famous already He said he was hanging out with friends other day and some guy asked to take a pic with him.

He was asked how he is managing to go to the club since he is 17 and can't get a drive licence yet. He said his parents drive him there and take him everyday.

There are a lot of other things there. The kids questions deserve a mention: one asked him why he will leave the club in the end of the year. He said his dream was always to play in the Premier League but he expect to come back to Fluminense some day.

Another kid asked why never pass the ball to some other teammate i could not understand the name. He joked that is PH Ganso who need to pass the ball to the other guy.

He’s only 17 and rules (can’t remember if it’s Brazilian or English league rules, I think Brazilian?) dictate that he can’t move to an overseas team until he’s 18. That is in September I believe, meaning he won’t be old enough during this summer’s window but can join in January 2020.
