Box of Kleenex at the ready? Either for some sublime Pereyra on Sky Sports 1 or Keira Knightley on ITV at 10pm. Enjoy.
I thought he was a one hit wonder. The only thing I know was this son was on a Now 5 cassette tape that I once owned. Wiki says he was originally in Duran Duran, worked with The Art of Noise producer JJ Jeczalik Jaand Robbie Williams. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Duffy
He was Duran Duran’s original lead singer before Simon Le Bon. He lives in Cornwall now, not far from my brother who occasionally bumps into him.
Whenever we go into a game with a bit of confidence, inevitably something ridiculous happens to bring us back down to earth with a timely bump. Kabasele early red and an uphill battle from there, I reckon. We’ll miss a couple of chances to even things up, before they hit us on the break and kill it off.
Seems a very simple minded approach to take, though. The Deeney situation is getting ridiculous at this point. Not sure how bad and ineffective he's got to get and how long it has to go on for before he's shown the door.
Yep, 100%. Even Success at his worst is a bigger attacking threat than Deeney. He's also a threat in behind which Deeney couldn't be less of. He just gives us absolutely nothing.
I keep saying it, I don’t think deeney is bad, he isn’t scoring goals , but is getting the team going and giving it direction
Can Gracia please hurry up and get Deeney's **** out of his mouth? Or perhaps it's the other way around considering how the useless lump continues to get picked despite pathetic performance after pathetic performance. I'm sure many will continue to be fooled by the fact he won a couple of headers and a shoulder barge and then waved his arms at the crowd, though. The bloke is an embarrassing excuse for a striker. Mariappa and Doucoure being so bad was just par for the course, too. Ones an old Championship defender and the other has had his head elsewhere for a year.
Up to 1-2 it was an okay performance. Unfortunately we are hamstrung by playing 2 completely substandard players: one by choice (Sema) and one by chronic pozzo underinvesment in centre backs (Mariappa). It is not possible to progress further with these players anywhere near the starting line up. Doucoure and Foster were also poor today. I thought Deeney was good first half, poor after that. I’d really like to see Janmaat back instead of Kiko as well - is he actually recovered from injury?
Hardly tested their goalie. A number of players ineffective, Foster poor, Kabasele probably broke a rib or similar. Good goal from Pererya. All in all not that great, but we only lost by 1 and had a chance of a point all the way through. Whos next? Bring em on.
Wonder if it was tiredness or saving energy for saturday. If we beat Newcastle we'll have done well overall. If not...
Fairly decent performance... but you've got to play better than that to beat Chelsea. Positives are I thought Cathcart and Capoue were good, with Holebas being our MOTM. Great goal from Pereyra. And Quina again looked classy and lively when he came on, he loves to get on the ball. Negatives were Kabasele being shipped off to hospital, and his replacement Mariappa struggling today with the quality of Hazard. Doucoure also off the pace, which is a shame as I though he'd looked better in recent weeks. Foster made a few errors. Not going to lose too much sleep over that result, a few winnable games coming up. And maybe some January signings???
I don’t think we played very well today, 2 mistakes cost us the game. I’m sure Pozzo has the same eyes we have and it’s just so frustrating that we are a decent CB and striker away from having a really special team. Deulofeu did himself no favours by diving before the penalty shout, it might be a soft one but I thought penalty and softer ones have been given.
Pretty disappointing to be honest. First half was pretty even, then we were on top second half and a moment of madness from Mariappa and Foster put us a goal down. Then we pretty much just let them play out the rest of the game. Normally this season we've gone down swinging but we didn't threaten much at all there. Particularly fun watching them pass the ball around for about five minutes solid as we approached injury time. Cathcart and Holebas were excellent, as was Capoue (apart from the mistake for the first goal). Deeney was dreadful, offered next to nothing - set the tone for his performance with the first ball up to him. He stood there like a statue, let Rudiger jump and win the header whilst he appealed for a free kick for absolutely nothing. A few times in the second half we were breaking and he was running through treacle trying to get into the box. Success would have caused Luiz far more problems. I really want to like Sema as he works hard but I'm not sure what the point of him offensively? Slightly worried that he only ever receives the ball with his back to goal, tightly marked by the full back - Amrabat Mark II?
Will be amazed if we sign anyone in January. Maybe get a couple of youngsters in and loan them straight out. Genuinely think we need some competition bought in next month or we can say goodbye to any chances of finishing in the top 10. Strange to feel so pissed off after losing to a 'top 4' team.
I'm going to be slated here - But I also like Quina - but what did he actually do when he came on other than win a free kick? Poor passing - that cross field one was awful, and a couple of heavy touches to lose possession. If that's classy, then most of our players are classy week in and week out.
Shout out for Capoue's tackle btw, running back into the box in the first half, tackle of the season? Go go gadget legs
When Rowan Atkinson is in charge it’s never easy. We were poor overall tonight and Deeney didn’t even try to make an impact although he had another chance to score. Their second penalty was the right call, what on earth was Ben doing? He almost made another gaff where the ball anost dribbled into the net after it went underneath him. Not his best game but overall he has been immense so I’m not going to call him out as the primary factor tonight. Chelsea were by far superior and we really did feel their warf after what Leicester did to them. Our final ball was akways cut out, they has us pinned back for long periods and despite another stunner from Peyera we deserved to lose to the better side. When Loo loo or what ever his name is brought down Delafoo and Rowan poured for a goal kick, then didn’t even hesitate in giving Them a penalty you knew it wasn’t our night. A draw would of been undeserving as we were just not at it tonight. I really hope Kabasele is OK. Seeing him leave in an Ambulance is never a good sign. I think we all felt it when he hit the post literally. Gracia made the right suns but should of been made right after their second. Quina never had time for an impact as did Success. Would of been cool to see Foster score that overhead kick at the death though. Overall disappointing night, but anything would of been a bonus. Newcastle will be tough, and be looking for the double over us. We really need to get back to winning ways ASAP after this, and put this result and performance out of the system quickly. Chelsea are a much better side to the one we faced last season and it showed. Yes they needed a penalty to win but I thought we tried at least and never got fully outplayed. Thankfully we don’t have long to wait and Newcastle and Muff away are two games we are more than capable of getting something from.
