May as well say it. Im the new Harry the Hornet. I contacted the club last night and have a few things I need to sort out first, but will clear everything up in due course. But in general, not much will change. The last mascot was excellent so continuity is the only thing on the agenda.
On what basis do you say this? I’m curious. Bailing after 10 years abruptly before the biggest game of the season strikes me as unexpected.
He used to, but during the summer he 'personalised' his account, so to me at least it was becoming clearer he was easing off. I remember about a year beforehand he had hinted he was scaling things back as he had a lot more on his plate than he did in the beginning.
Why is Man Utd at home "the biggest game of the season"? It's one of the higher profile matches, yes, but not of any great importance at this stage. And we might get to the Cup Final.
My favourite Harry story came from an interview with Palace fan, Kevin Day, prior to the recent game. Having sent up Roy for saying something like ‘...Hawwy the Hornet, who I assume is some kind of mascot...’, he went on to say that he really wanted Hodgson to appear in the dugout armed with a seven foot glass and a very large postcard.
Fair play to Roy Hodgson, who used his press conference today to wish Harry all the best in his retirement.
@1HHornet When you’ve had a meeting with Scott Duxbury. #watfordfc ⚽️ Sounds like we could be in for a shorter retirement than one of Lionel Messi’s Argentina self-imposed exiles.
It seemed to me, and everyone around me, that Gareth had returned. He’s most likely been told to ‘tone it down’.
I noticed he was shaking hands with the Bournemouth players afterwards. Probably been told not to mock the opposition.
I have no recollection of this previous incarnation of "Harry Hornet" (sic). Taken from a 1980 Div 2 programme featured on https://oldwatford.com/
Looks like Billie Jean King. On the left, that is. Quite what latex clad ghastliness is happening on the right is another matter.
Hardly dressed for a football match (the lady that is)! Would 1k be a lot in those days - more than you'd ever likely to get now from a club competition!
