What a tremendously cr&p performance from him again today. He has been dreadful every time he's started this season. For a somewhat talented footballer, he really is a waste of space.
Unfortunately I suspect we’ll be seeing more of himover the next few matches. Terrible attitude, lazy, didn’t venture further than about 5yards from the centre circle, can’t tackle, can’t head, try’s flicks or just passes backwards. But we’re so stuck for midfilders now, he’s all we’ve got
I’m not sure that Watson has it now. He hasn’t played regularly for the best part of 18 months. Pereyra played ok in the centre but I suspect he’ll be too weak to start in that position
Reworked: We've got Capoue It's two nil to you Just don't think you understand He's a Watford man Strolls around like Niang We've got Etienne Capoue
I am surprised that nobody has suggested that Belgian fellow that is doing so well at Man City, I recon he would suit our style of play.
I read in the papers that Silva didn't want to offer a new contract to Capoue but the Pozzos did - now I'd actually side on Marco with this one! Mind maybe come March Mr only play well when its warm will come out to do just that?
Total waste of talent but he was at least better under Quique where he had a more clearly defined role and didn't have to think as much. Maybe the new manager might be able to get so something similar out of him, particularly if we're looking to bore our way to safety?
Liked for the 'looking to bore our way to safety' line. The man to my right is inert at the most exciting of moments.* Lord knows what this will do to him? Coma? * In The Rookery, not MrIBB!
Little piece on Capoue from the Mercury: https://www.hertfordshiremercury.co...s/resurgence-etienne-capoue-under-new-1176420 Noticed Troy gave him the captain's armband as well when he went off.
Thought he was brilliant against Chelsea and played very well alongside Doucoure. No doubt a very talented player, hopefully he can be more consistent under Gracia.
He just needs a good manager to get the best out of him. QSF managed it, mazzarri didnt and nor did silva.
I thought that he did OK early on with Mazzarri and QSF but faded quickly, obviously Capoue aways requires new manager bounce in order to perform.
I think I'm the only person that likes Capoue. I'm not saying he isn't frustrating at times (who isn't?) but there is absolutely no way Ben Watson should have started ahead of him (not taking anything away from what Ben had achieved with us). To me it's just an obvious sign Silva didn't know how to handle him Sure he played deeper under QSF and whilst he didn't score he was probably our best midfielder that first season.
he was our best player full stop I reckon (cant remember who won POTS, was it gomes?). The first proper superstar player we signed.
New contract until 2022. https://www.watfordfc.com/teams/first-team/official-capoue-signs-new-contract
you have to credit the club, unlike Arsenal, all the family silver (apart from Silva) is neatly tied down for next season
when we signed him he was our biggest and most glamorous signing since jamie moralee, if not ever. It sent out a defiant message to the rest of the league, and he was instrumental in getting us to that 13th place finish. He will flourish under gracia and will score the winning goal in a cup final for us. I have foreseen it.
Hopefully, he will get his finger out at last and start playing like we know he can on a regular basis! However, if he slips back into his lacksidasical ways, at least we should get reasonable money for him due to the length of his new contract.
Another rolls royce performance from capoue on saturday. He's one of the best players to play for us in the entire history of our club, and some of you whoppers were calling for him to be sold! Have a read back through this thread and post your apologies below. The gurning gibbon seems to get the best out of him, whereas silva failed miserably.
He looked fantastic again on Saturday. To be fair to him in the vast majority of Gracia's games in charge he has looked in good form. I think the deeper role suits him well, and allows him just to motor around the middle of the pitch spraying passes left and right. Capoue gets into trouble when he has to get backwards and forwards quickly. In his second season he started the season brilliantly and scored lots of goals but quickly tired after 10 or so games.
Yep, who would have thought little watford would ever have two french superstars running the show in midfield? Chalobah and cleverley are looking at a long spell on the bench I reckon.
Good news is it means we don't have to rush Chalobah back. He can take his time getting fit and be fed into the team when the time is right. No reason to drop Capoue if he carries on putting up 7 or 8/10 performances each week. I expect we will see Chalobah get some starts in games where we start with 3 in the middle.
Yep, funny how everything looks rosy after just one decent win. Hard to believe it was all doom and gloom just 3 days ago....(not sure if you were part of the negativity crew or not, but I certainly was).
Hats off to Gravy for his work with Capoue. In addition perhaps Capoue has matured and found his best position, thanks to Gravy and is thriving there. Not unlike Clough converting Kenny Burns to a centre half from a forward.
Chalobah should still start away from home imo (once he's back fit and ready). Hughes is not a winger and on his day I'd rate Chalobah ahead of him, plus 4-4-2 away from home against most sides is too risky, so I'd go 4-5-1 with: Deulofeu, Chalobah, Doucoure, Capoue, Pereyra ---------------------Gray
