Well that was piss easy wasn't it? Not sure what all the worry was about. If that's the quality we have to play against to stay up this season then it's already in the bag.

Blah, blah, Blah "Pereya". Blah, blah, Blah "Foster". Blah, blah, Blah "Deeney & Grey". Blah, blah, Blah "Doucouré"... all very interesting stuff. But the real question is: did the '81 sing the "Knockaert song" for at least 90% of the time?

Thats for me one of the big positives today. Last season we looked totally inept from set pieces with the delivery often failing to beat the first man. It certainly shows that we have put some effort into them on the training ground.

Was very pessimistic before a ball was kicked, mainly due to our inability to sign a striker and a ball playing centre back, BUT, pleased to see we got off to a great start today!

Credit to Javi, he seems to have got us playing as a unit and we seem compact and solid. I guess it's difficult to judge as we came up against a side that played poorly, but couldn't have asked for anymore today....a win and a clean sheet is perfect!

I just HOPE we don't pay the price for persisting with two Championship strikers and not signing a player that could bang in 12-15 goals. I wish to be proved wrong, and I will say in Deeney's and Gray's defence, they play better in a front two than as lone strikers, so may spark something at that end of the pitch.

No idea why people are so shocked at Success doing well when he came on. Rewind a couple of seasons when we signed him and he was running teams ragged, we were absolutely distraught when he got injured and missed most the season. Has all the potential to be a really really classy player and a defenders nightmare, just needs to stay fit!

    Great start though.

Great win, don't care who it was against - we didn't manage to beat them last season.

Everyone was at least a 7/10. Tougher tasks ahead, but it was nice to see out a game without being fearful of the dreaded last minute equaliser.

Knockeart tried to repeat his dying swan dive on virtually the same part of turf:mad:.

With some decent players to come back in to the squad, it's nice to feel positive after a lot of recent doom and gloom.

The reality is our first team isn’t as bad as everyone thinks, but we’re at the stage we’re it can’t be improved by much either.

In terms of improvement? Hughes, Doucoure, Pereyra, Kabasele (Chalobah & Deulofeu) all have potential to fulfil.

Deeney, Janmaat, Capoue, Cathcart and Foster are probably in their peak years

Excellent all round performance. Thought the level of intensity was incredible and we already look fitter than last season which may help the injury situation.

Very enjoyable opening game, both in terms of the result and the manner in which it was achieved; well worth the two hour journey there thanks to the M25 car park. Not only did I never really worry that we would concede (which is a weird feeling watching a Watford game) but the whole team seemed to be up for it and working as a team for the full 90 minutes. My only slight niggle was that I couldn't decide if we were as effective as we seemed, or if Brighton made us look better than we are because they were so *****. Time will tell.

An aside: my sister and I landed towards the top of the 1881 section of the Rookery. Things I learned:
    1. The section does a good job of standing and singing throughout the whole match
    2. The songs are generally upbeat and positive (although the Luton-based songs made me smile considering most of those singing them have probably never been to a Watford-Luton match). But no homophobic chants, unlike some teams' singing sections when they play Brighton - bravo!
    3. I feel very, very old within this section of the crowd
    4. Teenage boys still apparently forget the need to apply deodorant

Having only supported Watford I don't know if this generally applies to football fans, but most of the smelliest people I've encountered in my life have been at Vicarage road.

A few years back, I went with a Spurs supporting mate to see them play West Brom on a Sunday as his brother had come over ill on the morning of the game (Spurs lost, it was hilarious). I'm 99% sure the fat **** sitting next to me had shat his pants - or if he hadn't, his odour was an exact match of pure *****.

What a match. Utterly dominant from start to finish and there was no fear that we'd throw out away at the end. 2 superb goals from our superstar and even gray did pretty well.

It's miles better having the unpredictable success coming on from the bench than okaka.

Ken looked like he's going to be ace too I reckon.

Hughes was sensational, he is so tenacious. If he wasn't so ugly and British he'd be one of my favourite players.

Even gracia looked suave in his nice grey suit.

What a marvelous day. Pissed and content

Quite - bit like saying if Geoff Hurst hadn't scored 3 goals in 1966 England would have never won the World Cup !

He deserved it. Whoever said that dive was identical to the one in playoffs was spot on. Deserves a ban.

Looked like a comfortable win against an overrated side. Should be beating them at home and did. Job done. Will be interesting to see how JG approaches away games. Got to start with Gray, surely? No way will he go two up front.

Foster - good but a couple of crosses he didn’t cleanly collect, needs to watch that

Janmaat - solid, easy game defensively for him

Holebas - I like him, proper competitor and world class at the old sh*thousery..,,every team needs that

    Cathcart - great...we’ve missed him

Kabasele - sadly missed that sitter in a nice homage to Gray/Deeney but he’s quick and covers us well in defence

Doucoure - slow out of the blocks but settled well into the game. He’s going to be an important player to keep fit

Capoue - usual August performance....give it another 3 or 4 matches before that’s it...to be next seen giving a sh*t at the end of April 2019

Hughes - another important player. Tidy stuff and uses the ball well. Deceptively strong in the tackle for a pasty ginner. He’ll be well happy the heatwave ended just before the season started.

Pereyra - played in a Champions League final did you know?

Deeney - stripes are slimming. To be fair though looked fit and harried their centre backs although without much end product. Horrible one on one miss.

Gray - tried hard and was committed. How is he a premier league footballer? He’s like a repelling magnet to the ball and unerringly accurate when shooting directly at the keeper. Striking 1.0 - “Shoot across the keeper”

Success - being weaned off the Baileys and the hookers seems to have been...well, a success

Ken - love it that we have a player called Ken

Femenia - probably should start, shouldn’t he?
