Why would I be disappointed you absolute moron. More than happy to have certain players perform well and prove me wrong. He had a decent game today.

Very happy with that. That game followed the pattern of pretty much all of our home games from about March last year, except today we didn't lose concentration and throw away the result - perhaps Javi has had time to get rid of the Silva-isms in our squad?

Foster makes a big difference. Holebas having decent competition seems to have made a difference. Capoue is a different player under Javi and I thought Deeney and Gary did a decent job - both could have scored, but their pressing was a big part of why we controlled that game so well.

Success looked very promising when he came on - did all the dirty work Grey was doing, but with a first touch!

Encouraging performance - excellent goals by Pereyra and a overall a decent team performance.

Deeney and Gray linked up well and the midfield/defence looked solid.

Not that Brighton offered much and for once our defending made sure they didn't!

Thought there was a real togetherness everyone pressing together. Can't fault anyone's effort, Deeney and Gray were a bit to far apart and the balls seemed to be aimed at Gray to hold up instead of Troy. Gray done ok a few balls got away from him but overall put a shift in. Wish Troy had put that chance away in first half as it would of done him world of good. Even though Brighton were woeful credit must go to Watford for controlling the game. And Holebas must of been working on his crossing as some of those deliveries were superb and on another day we would of won that by 5 0.

Yes that applies to the team too. Though great performance and you can only beat what's in front of you .

Dire performance I thought, should have scored more against that shambles. Who was the guy that looked like Holebas, looked pretty decent.

Brighton were poor because of the way we played, not because they are a poor side (which they may well be!)

Take Pererya out of that game and it would have been a dour 0-0 against comfortably the worst team in the division. Deeney and Gray are Championship strikers at best. This will be the high point of our entire season, mark my words.

Why would you want to take Pereyra out of the game though? He was our best player and if he can stay injury free I’ve no doubt there will be a lot more moments of magic from him.

This is wide of the mark I think. In our next win Pereyra may well be a non factor and someone else will step up.
Something I've learned since last season and possibly before that is that different players prove match winners each game. We seem to share goals and performances between players.

How dare Watford have a decent midfield. We'll have to take Deulofeu out next week when he tears Burnley a new ar8ehole, Hughes the week after that, Doucoure the week after that. Anything to emphasise the totally original point that our strikers are a bit rubbish.

Anybody getting any stick yet? I thought that was a near perfect performance - committment, effort from every player, sensible subs, great game management. Thought Success looked particularly up fot it.

Best bit for me apart from goals was Capoue bringing down a high ball on the centre circle, turning 2 Brighton players and advancing towards Brighton goal in one fluid movement. Class.

What a performance, same squad as last season but night and day
    Goals, pressing, tracking and defending

Maybe the summer is what javi needed to gel and craft the squad

You can only beat what's in front of you and for us to win 2-0 on the opening day of the season, is very welcome, hopefully this will give the team confidence for next Sunday when we take on Burnley at their place.

Last season we didn't turn up at Burnley so a performance similar to today could reep some reward, Burnley will be playing their sixth game of the season, and play two games before they play us (tomorrow and Thursday) so some fatigue could have settled in, whereas we will have 8 days to recover and possibly Delufou back!

What impressed me today was that all players played for each other, no selfish moments COYH

    Gotta stop fat shaming deeney

    Watford captain Troy Deeney:

"He's not a bad player, he [Pereyra] played in the Champions League final. People think we would fall apart because Richarlison left, [but] this is a great squad. We've got Nathaniel Chalobah and Gerard Deulofeu to come back.

"Credit to Ben Foster too, his kicking was sensational and kept us out of trouble. We've been working on our intensity and it has been working and that's why I look so skinny."

Would like Richarlison to score 10 by Jan
Remeber the QSF season when we all said Capoue was a class above? Well i genuinely think that having Capoue and the likes of him here benefits the squad. Hes no longer our top CM, or even our top French CM. But he highlights the strength in depth we have compared to Wolves, Fulham, Brighton, Huddersfield - Who clearly on todays shows are behind us in quality. Cardiff are simply another level down with a dinosaur manager.

Yet because we only have 2 forwards (plus some oddballs who might be good or might get pissed on baileys) we're relegation fodder?. Not in my eyes.

Here’s a little quiz question for a bit of fun..

Today was the 3rd time in the last 6 season’s that we’ve won our opening match of the season.

What’s the one common factor that connects those wins that didn’t happen in the three instances we failed to open the season with victories?

    A bitter sweet day.
A thoroughly deserved win,two more goals would not have flattered us.
I can't think of a player who didn't play well but most importantly, we looked a team,
I don't recall Deeney or Gray getting much from Drunk and Disorderly or whatever their centre halves are called, last season, but they really set the tone today.
    A great start.
Doesn't Waghorn look like Vydra? Odd that.
A terribly sad note: at half time Nick, who I used to sit next to,together with his wife, came to tell me she had died recently from meningitis.
RIP Jenny and deep condolences to Nick and family.

    Very encouraging.

Capoue/Cathcart were imperious, Holebas' delivery was excellent, and we looked a threat every time we went forward.

Long season ahead of us, but If the fitness gods smile upon us we can finish top 10

We scored more goals then the opposition in the games we won, and didn't in the games we didn't win.
