Looks like Djokovic is keen to watch the final ..

1 set and 2 breaks up.

Ah nostalgia's not what it was!
I understand and agree that perhaps the players do not have the personalities of past times. However when Connors,my favourite growing up, JP Mac and Nastase were playing people said they were an abomination,so in some ways you can't win!
We know so much more about sports science these days and thanks mainly to Navratilova, players leave no stone unturned in their application to their sport.
Players are stronger, faster, more agile, have greater elasticity and the human race is getting taller year on year.Twelve year olds now hit the ball harder than probably the greatest player of all time Rod Laver. Time moves on.
I'm sad if people don't watch what I consider the hardest game to excel at but then again you don't have to look at Richard Lewis' teeth!
Probably very wise in this weather,I was very hot and I was only on court for three hours!
    Joker a worthy winner.
Anderson's worst nightmare to win his semi final in three and a half weeks and then find the machine that is Djokovic the other side of the net.
I think Jelena Djokovic needs a few of Troy's pies to feed her up,she makes me look like Hattie Jaques!

Murray in floods of tears after defeating Copil in Washington.
Has withdrawn from Toronto next week and must be sore for match tonight v Di Minaur.
Tsitsipas going strong and awaits Zverev or Nishikori in semis.
    Plenty of rain in D.C.

Looks like Murray pulled out of the Quarter final match.

Yes,not surprising really given he was on court for eight hours for his three matches, all of them three setters.
He has complained about the scheduling but the tournament would have been hamstrung by the large amounts of rain throughout the week.
I'm looking forward to Tsitsipas v Zverev tonight.

Zverev continuing his flat track bully role in Washington, but can he step up at a major event?
    Tsitsipas continues to improve markedly.
Kyrgios behaving like a berk as usual and Edmund very weak against little Diego in Toronto.

Wonderful display of all court tennis from Tsitsipas to defeat Djokovic in three sets.
    Some player this lad.

Greek sport in better shape than their economy !

Djokovic won't be in a "good place" then...

He took it in good part,as he usually does.
The improvement in Tsitsipas's returns since losing to Nadal in Barcelona has been key I think.
He also serves with unnerving accuracy for a 19 year old.
Most impressive is his ability to control court position and therefore take time away from his opponents. He is brave in his ventures to the net too and is by far the most natural volleyer of the Next Generation players.
He'll lose to Zverev I expect, but his progress is strong.

Tsitsi beats Zverev or rather Zverev loses to Tsitsi.
Remarkable match, low on quality in the main but fascinating as an example of how much of tennis is in the head.
Zverev was, after losing the first eight points,a level above an exhausted looking Greek.
Tsitsipas then played a good game to hold for 3-5 in the second, having lost the first and an average game to break in conjunction with Zverev getting tight.
Tsitsipas then mixed it up,partly no doubt due to physical and more emotional fatigue. The most damaging aspect to Zverev,as to almost all players, was the slow paced ball to the forehand.
Zverev unravelled and served a double fault at match point down,to compound his misery.
This is not the first time Zverev has had a melt down and in truth he is showing the same flaws as he did last year.
Croft and Rusedski had a big disagreement on Dimitrov,Croft saying he needed a sports psychologist.
The same could be said for Sasha, although Rusedski's suggestion for Lendl as coach was sound.

Heroic week for Tsitsipas in Toronto.
Most of the Greek population came out to support him yesterday, his twentieth birthday.
He almost made it three sets against Rafa, but couldn't convert either of his set points.
Those of you who like a bet put a few pounds on Tsitsi winning a major tournament in the next two years. He plays with such élan, such energy and verve.Beautiful to watch. Petchey's likening him to a 14th century artist is quite apt.
On a sour note, time and time again Rafa went over the 'stop clock' when serving. Feeble officiating not to penalise him, others were. One rule for one etc, etc.
Great line calling though I must say,far better than the Americans usually produce.I will watch Cinci this week with interest.
    Up the Greeks!

Murray still struggling with fitness and obviously because of that, form.
Heading for a Stan v RF quarter in Cincinnati tomorrow.

Djokovic completes his full set of Masters Series wins, matching Lendl.
Not a classic final as Federer was erratic but Joker appears close to his best again.

Murray gets Jack and Vera Duckworth in the US Open, the only player ranked lower than him in the draw!
Konta is less fortunate and draws Caroline Garcia who is hugely able but a little flaky.
    Joker in Federer's quarter.
Heather Watson forced to qualify and plays her first match tonight.

    US Open underway.
    Murray through as is Norrie.
    Edmund and Watson out.
I will be interested to learn the viewing figures now it is on Amazon Prime.
Mr IBB spent a large part of yesterday playing with an HDM 1 wire(?) to obtain this procedure.
    Come on Tsitsipas!

    Murray and Norrie remain.

if I were being pedantic I would question whether all eleven of the females were qualified to be named coaches. However I doubt anyone but me will question it and I don't really care either!

I have no connection to the club other than a colleague was/is. It was featured in 3CR Monday night sports programme a couple of weeks back and caught my attention. I but may book a session.

Jo Konta now well and truly confirmed as British.

I don't know why Heather Watson bothers. Surely, she'd earn more in a sales role than she does going out of every tournament in qualifying or the 1st round.

I don't think she's ever recovered from that odd lizard Bollettieri not realising she was in his academy.poor girl!
Both tours are brutal and if you are injured, lose form and therefore confidence, you have nowhere to hide, especially when the players work out your game. It becomes a vicious circle.
It is hard to see both her and Konta ever reaching the top thirty again.

REnd of the British interest in the singles then - sounds like Murray played well but Verdasco was even better .

Listened on the way back from the game.
FV can have problems closing out a match and served a double or two it seems. However he is a shot maker and it will take AM a few months to regain his rhythm.
The question is will he be able to attain the heights he once held? Probably not, players have come on since his injury and his game requires such endeavour it's hard to see him back winning big titles. Time will tell.
I'm sorry to hear Tsitsi lost but Medvedev is a talented player so no disgrace.

No Djokovic v Federer quarter final then - the latter stunned by John Millman in 4 sets.

Strong American feel to the ladies quarters .

Sharapova lost last night which probably brought some relief to the WTA/organisers in a way as might have been awkward had she won the title.

Finally age appears to be catching up with Federer.
Rarely has he lost to a middle ranked player, especially in a big tournament.
I cannot bear Shoutapova. Completely untrustworthy, from growth hormones as a teenager to shrieking and her feeble excuses for the doping ban.

Jamie Murray might win another doubles title - have we ever had a more successful doubles player?

Mixed you mean,I thought he lost in the doubles?
Jo Durie and Jeremy Bates won a couple of Wimbledon titles but Murray Maximus has probably won more. A credit to Louis Cayer's coaching and good selection of partners.BMS is a VERY good doubles/mixed player, utterly fearless and old school serve and volley.I like her a lot.

Del Potro looking good for a win against an injured Nadal..

If he did win overall would it be the longest gap between winning grand slams ?
