To be fair I think the Fat Deeney jokes are wearing a bit thin. boom boom... Seriously actually, he looks in reasonable shape. He's not exactly lightening quick but never was. Its a fact we don't really play to his strength but that's true of all our strikers ....plus anyone else we buy probably. Even the mighty Vydra.

 

You only have to look at pictures and footage of Deeney in the final Championship years to realise that he has an unhealthy obsession with bulking up with muscle though. I don’t buy into all the ‘fat’ comments because I don’t think he is. But he was a far better player when he was leaner and I don’t understand how he doesn’t realise that.

I don’t think he comes back unfit every summer. I suspect he is fit (injuries aside) when he returns in pre-season but he’s gained a lot of that fitness by being in the gym and focussing on muscle.

 

Completely agree. Its all to do with his perception of being "the main man" and hanging around with Joshua. If I ever get my hands on Joshua he'll soon regret ruining Deeney for us.

Personally I would love to see Deeney stay, yes he may not be anywhere as good as he used to be but he is literally Mr Watford. I don't want to see him sat on the bench at Cardiff being called a flop and being remembered for that. The guy is a legend and has been a massive factor in getting us to where we are, one of the only survivors from our promotion campaign from the championship.

That all being said, one striker will need to leave to allow another one in. I think it's more likely Okaka leaves. Gray and our 1 or 2 new forward signings will be ahead of Deeney in the pecking order. Also why not give Jakubiak some playing time, never know he might get a goal and come good!

 

So £100k a week for the next 3 years just to have ineffective Mr Watford is a good investment?

Besides we can look forward to similar threads about Deeney like some here do with Fessi, they'll have another person they can't move on from.
