People think Giroud is going to cost "the best part of £50m" if he leaves Chelsea? What planet are you on?

The man is nearly 32 and has been a back up option for his current and previous club. Decent striker but if he does go in this window it won't be for more than £20-25m at absolute most.

I'd love us to sign him but would never happen due to wages and no sell on value. Watford would be very convenient for him though given we are a london club :)

Reports today (or yesterday) claim Atletico Madrid were interested.

There's no way he'd move to a lower/middle half side in any division.

They are talking about Batshuayi, not Giroud.

Even if we have to pay all £50m of the Richarlison fee + £100k weekly wages to get a top class striker, I think it is time that we made such a commitment, in an attempt to move up to the next level.

As a PL club and with the bolster of the £50m for Richarlison, it might still be a stretch, but should be affordable none the less, and it should not break the bank, therefore it has to be worth a try IMO.

We need to sell some players pretty quick or we are going to have some players not making the squad sitting around ala Bruce Djedje

The assumption being that paying £50m for a striker guarantees you goals

We can pay £50m for a crap striker tomorrow but no striker truly worth that sort of money should be wanting to join us. If they did, I would be very suspicious. We need to be buying a £20m striker and hoping we can turn them into a £50m striker as we have done with Gray. Or more likely a £5m-£10m striker and turn them into a £30m striker as we have done with Oulare and Okaka, .....sorry Richarlison.

I’d like us to make a statement with this money if we are going for a striker. Someone like Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo. I suspect we will still be looking at giving someone another chance though - the likes of Ahmed Musa or something.

Why do people want Giroud? I don't get it. The bloke can't run like Deeney. Aimless balls up top all over again.
May get more joy from a corner but that's about it.

Has scored goals consistently apart from at Liverpool where he competed alongside Suarez, Coutinho, Sturridge and Sterling and barely got a game.

There are limited numbers of ‘proven’ PL goalscorers who we could attract - if any. I’m more interested in a players ability to score goals full-stop than putting a filter on the search that he has to have done it in the PL before.

Scoring goals for fun in Spain, Italy etc. means bugger all when we all know its a completely different challenge to score goals in the Premiership. He was singled out at Liverpool for not being physically strong enough to be successful, I doubt much has changed in that regard

A 1 in 2 record for the Spain national team who play one up front suggests different. He was singled out Liverpool for not being as good as their other strikers - which when you see who they were, is understandable. Since then, he has gone away and been fairly prolific. That can’t be denied? He has scored goals all throughout his career but for a 14 game spell at Liverpool with mitigating circumstances. De Bruyne was written off for the PL for being too slight, Salah too - should they not have been given another chance after proving themselves elsewhere?

I see what your saying but the title of the thread is ‘We need a goal-scorer’ - that’s what Aspas is.

I don't know. The only thing I do know is that the majority of these suggestions aren't really solving our problem.

    Mitrovic - 10 goals in 40
    Aspas - 0 goals in 13
    Grioud - 7 goals in 29
    Batshuayi - 7 goals in 32

I'm sure the club recognise we're in need of more firepower. However is it really worth spending another fortune on players that have barely got a better scoring record than Troy and Gray? I'd rather we address the glaring issue with our aging, crap defence instead of giving a striker £100k a week to barely improve us

    Mitrovix, Aspers, Geroo and Batshitwhyee.

Absolutely no chance of signing any of them, ever. But carry on.

Every single one of those strikers is far better than what we have in terms of ability. Sounds to me that if we are to buy a striker, you want someone who has recently scored 15/20 in a PL season. We aren’t going to get that because they cost an absolute fortune and would be sought after by clubs far better than us.

I appreciate you can’t come up with any specific names - but just out of interest, what type of profile striker do you think we should be looking for? What kind of attributes and history? If you don’t think any of those players would be an improvement, I’m interested to hear what type of player you think would be?

Sheringham would fit our budget, as would Holdsworth (Dean).

    Beasted it in 92-93.

Fourth top EPL in the first season was one M Quinn.

Liverpool want £27m for Origi. I don’t think he’d be a bad shout but not at that price.

I would be wary of Liverpool cast offs that would be willing to come to us , don't want or need another Sinclair, that said Ings at a reasonable price might be of interest .

Ings at a decent price is a good shout, can actually score and knows where the goal is..But of course hope his injury issues are behind him when he comes to us.
