Ben may be expensive for 35 with no resale value but who else are we going to sign who is that good ? I guess we will be left with whoever doesn't get picked up by our peers.
Not great from him to pledge his loyalty there a couple of months ago and now to try to force a move.
Agreed. Crappy attitude all round really. They are still WBA players and have contracts to honour. Wouldn't want him here for any price now.
£1m bid rejected. Anything under £5m would be a great bit of business. Sent from my G3311 using Tapatalk
Slowly but surely, we’re buying back all of the players that were too good for us before the Pozzos joined. Next stop: Ashley Young and Hameur Bouazza.
Foster has been very consistent over many years in the EPL. Maybe not rated by some fans as much as by managers. Citee probably see him as a third choice and to fill a gap for a season or two. Would possibly feature in the cup competitions, including Champions League which could be tempting. Plus the money would come in handy, so this is not so strange as it first appears.
I think we will probably have to up our offer from £1m, but we should be able to get him for considerably less that £5m me thinks.
Now that he has thrown his rattle out of the pram, WBA won’t want to keep him. They will play the big one for a week or two to keep face before eventually selling him to us for £4mil. They won’t want a player that doesn’t want to be there and with the window closing in 6/7 weeks they don’t have time to waste. Once they have a replacement lined up, we could see him back here. I feel sorry for the WBA fans, we know exactly how that feels when players/managers pledge, then clear off.
The irony of us all (quite rightly) getting outraged by Everton’s behaviour last season, yet here we are it seems unsettling another club’s player lol.
This would be true only if WBA said ‘never no way’ and we carried on. All we have done is put a bid in when no football is being played.
Agreed. Bidding for a relegated player in the summer (however laughable the bid is) is nothing like offering an employed manager a contract under the table 9 games into his new employment with another club who have told you clearly to bog off. Have West Brom said Foster is not for sale? Have they just signed him? He clearly wants to stay in the Premier League, and they probably want to cash in.
Providing West Brom have allowed us to speak to him, and we've not encouraged him to down tools, then we've done nothing wrong If he's decided to down tools off the back of our offer then that's between them
I would very much doubt we would have been given permission to talk to him until we had an agreed fee. But i'm sure a few quiet converstions may have been had with his agent . Would be a great signing if we can get him for c£5m.
I would add that Foster has given his all for WBA over many seasons and did his utmost last season trying to keep them up. A lot of his colleagues failed to turn up in some matches and the defence gave him very little respite. Without condoning not turning up for work he should feel less guilty than most in that squad and no surprise he wants out. Clearly wants to play and go out at the top level. Might eventually follow Tony Coton as a GK coach.
Would be tough to turn down if they offer him the #1 keeper spot, and a better package, with better chance of staying in the prem.
We want to sign ANOTHER English player? Hughes, Cleverley, Chalobah, Deeney, Wilmot, Mariappa, Sinclair and Gray are already here blocking the route for signings from abroad and little old Watford want to bring another one in?!? We really are all that's wrong with football in this day and age.
?? I'm not suggesting he wouldn't be our first choice, merely that the #1 spot at a bigger club, on a bigger package, and with arguably the likelihood of staying up, it would be a tough call to get him to turn down WHU and come to us purely for emotional reasons, when he left >10 years ago and the club has new owners.
They've already signed Fabianski. And I'd have thought Foster's links here would see a move to us being well ahead of the spammers.
