Do you like cheese and cheese related gags? That's what you need to ask yourself. It's all you need to ask yourself.
Foster is still a very good keeper who was given little protection by his defence last season. But why pay 10 million when Fabianski was 7 million, younger and in better form? If United or Citee need a back up keeper they can pay him more. He will need a nest egg for his final year(s). We need to get a move on whichever GK we are after otherwise we may end up keeping Panty.
If a deal is ever announced you can expect a personal thanks from Gino in the press release and a nice box of chocs.
Per the Nottingham post " Nottingham Forest’s bid to sign Costel Pantilimon is reportedly being delayed by Watford being unable to sign Karnezis on a permanent deal." https://www.nottinghampost.com/sport/football/transfer-news/costel-pantilimon-transfer-being-delayed-1707514
This scenaio is highly unlikely as Karnezis is not coming back to Watford. Previous reports suggest he might become a back-up at Napoli. However we probably are holding onto Panty until we sign one of the rumoured GKs, the latest being Ben Foster from WBA.
Brom allegedly wanted Deeney during the last window didn’t they? Maybe there’s some sort of swap deal in the offing?
Whilst it’s fair to assume WBA (or anyone else) wouldn’t pay Deeney his current wage, at what point does sensibility come into for a player who is no longer an automatic first choice? When Joe Cole starting dropping down the leagues, I’m pretty sure he didn’t expect Coventry to be picking up his Chelsea/Liverpool wage. The way I see it, if Deeney wants to play every week and keep his current pay grade, he has to regain the type of form which I sadly think is beyond him and stays with us. Otherwise he needs to look at moving on and accept guaranteed football will come with a decrease in income and will be at a team with a similar or lower standing to ourselves. He will need to choose between the amount he gets paid or the amount he plays - I don’t think anyone is going to offer him both.
We accepted an offer of £1.2 million from West Brom in the January window, Troy was adamant he would leave on his terms not on the boards, the subsequent gesture after the goal against Chelsea was aimed at the directors
We really are trying to stiff Walsall out of getting any significant cash boost from their 20%, aren't we?
It's fairly standard if a player is sold without asking to leave that he gets a "loyalty bonus", which I imagine would more than cover any shortfall in wages from dropping down a league.
I like Foster and would love to see him back. But if it really is £10m it makes £20m plus for the likes of Butland or Pope seem good value given their resale value. Of course they may not want to come.
When the rumours started about Jack Butland, I had a look back at all the fees the Pozzo's have paid out on goalkeepers since they've been in charge: Almunia - free transfer Gomes - free transfer Pantilimon - 500k Bachman - free transfer Dahlberg - £3.5m Karnezis - loan So going by past history, I believe it would be very unlikely for them to spend £10m on a 35 year old. If there's any truth in the story (and I'd like to think there is as it would be a good signing - but only at a lower fee), you'd imagine that Gino would try to get West Brom's asking price down to 3 or 4m at the absolute most.
I think Pope will turn out to be the best England keeper and when he gets his chance push Pickford to one side. If we can't get him Foster would be a good signing but pay no more than 5 million pounds.
£20m for Pope who has had one good season and spent his career in the lower leagues and on benches before that? He may well go on to be consistently good. But he’s not worth £20m when you look at the fee’s GK’s go for.
All GK fees have been inflated in the EPL by Pickford's move to Everton last season. If England get to the latter stages of WC what price Pope and Butland even if they don't play let alone Pickford? West Ham and Wolves have already stolen a march on us it appears with Fabianski and Patricio respectively. I would be pleased if Ben came back but at what price?
