It is a worry if we have thrown Okaka into the mix as it complicates matters. Swapping players with a smaller slice of cash moving either way rarely works these days. I'd rather get Masina in at what appears to be a reasonable price and worry about off-loading Okaka later. With Okaka's agent being quite outspoken this really could put the Mesina deal in jeopardy. The links to the Swedish left-back now make more sense but he is playing at the WC and will be no bargain.

 

He's a fantastic footballer. Plays the same position as Hughes but scored more goals in the Championship in one season than Hughes managed in five. Both are excellent passers but Maddison is quicker, more powerful and has more of an edge to him. Has his head screwed on too, as he turned down offers from bigger clubs to go to Norwich where he knew he'd get regular first team football. It's steep but I don't think he's that overpriced for a 21 year old English player coming off the back of the season he's just had. I know you were being flippant but his performances have completely outshone Grealish's, despite Maddison being in a mid table team rather than the team that finished 4th. He is a much, much better footballer than Grealish.

 

Still a massive gamble at that price. So, so many fantastic champ players that never quite made the step up.

 

It's definitely a lot of money but I'm not sure it's that big a gamble. His technique is top quality, easily good enough for the Premier League.

I'm speculating but I would guess that the good attacking Championship players who struggle in the Premier League are those whose technique and reading of the game isn't good enough. Maddison's is exceptional. So it comes down to mentality and perhaps a bit of luck. We can revisit this in a year, but I reckon he'll be one of the stars of next season.

 

Maddison is an excellent playmaker who scores a lot of goals. Hughes and Chalobah were ridiculously cheap but I don't think the Maddison fee is terribly out of line with general fee rates

 

It’s hyperbole to say Maddison’s performances “completely outshone” Grealish. The latter had a fantastic season and now he seems to have grown up a bit I’d much rather have him. Opinions I guess. I think they’ve overpaid as many players don’t step up. You’ve already addressed that point so let’s see how he does.

 

Grealish has now grown up and served his apprenticeship so one is buying quite an experienced young player. He has done some stupid things in the past and been accused of wasting his talent. But that seems behind him that is why he's a target for some big clubs. Maddison is also a big talent and he could end up the better player. However he is still learning and needs to adapt to the EPL and that is why he gone to Lester. Villa may have to accept a lower fee due to financial necessity but it would be a big surprise if he ends up cheaper than Maddison.

 

Ffs I came on here to read about cheese and petrol and have has to plough through pages of guff about two championship players who we aren't even linked with! After 10 years, I'm leaving.

Goals and assists massively inflate a players fee, and it does frustrate me when there is so much focus on those stats. When scouting Chalobah and Hughes, the club did a great job of looking beyond that and actually assessing whether they had the overall attributes to cut it in the Premier League. Time will tell whether Maddison can do the same.

Maddison will be an England international. No risk at all for Leicester. They will recoup the majority even if it doesn't work out.

Disliking a player that clearly isn't good enough at this level anymore and who frequently displays a negative and foolish attitude on the pitch certainly isn't exclusive to "kids ".
