Sterling display of moronic idiocy.

And this is the danger. It's a bit of a non-story that isn't in the public interest when all the facts about it have come out. But that paper don't care about that and as I have said, its another case of 'Write the story and ignore any context. The damage will be done and we won't have to answer for it'. This paper has had a very specific and weird agenda against the young lad for quite some time and its a bit disturbing.

HB1, you get a lot of unwarranted stick on here and generally you seem like a decent bloke, but you really don't help yourself in situations like this.

The confidence and authority you speak with on subjects that you are clearly ignorant about - and the mental gymnastics that you perform to double down when people point out the inconsistencies in your arguments - is astounding.

Footballers should not be held as role models by children anyway. Surely the role model they should look up to are their parents. It is the parent's role and responsibility to explain such things to their child, set their boundaries and let them know what is right and wrong and learning to respect yourself and others. Being part of a gang does not make you a man, killing someone who invades your so called turf and carrying weapons is not a good idea.

A lot of problems in society today stem from inadequate parenting. I have been a juror and seen first hand a number of criminals and the defence then produces their upbringing as mitigating circumstances. And I do indeed find myself thinking that had these individuals had responsible parents who took an interest in their children and tried to help them realize their potential which lies in each of us that they would not be in the position of going once more into the prison system.

Asclepius a son of Apollo was one of the Greek minor pantheon associated with healing and medicine. Whenever one of his temples was founded part of the healing ritual involved releasing non venomous snakes into the temple.

That's not really true though is it.
The tabloids "report" on stuff that the public do want to read up on. That's not a good reflection of the public but if there wasn't a groundswell of people who want to read the latest gossip or non story then they wouldn't exist. People love a bit of controversy as well and like to have their say on it. Just look at this thread.. 4 pages already. If nothing else Raheem's tat has awoken the WFC Forum from it's post season slumber!

PS I think those using the Arsenal badge comparison are a bit wide of the mark. When was the last time you saw a gang member pushing a canon around? Maybe they were in the 15th century but things have moved on.

Yes.. canons.. what are they thinking?!

Seriously though i get your point as well. Stories like this should be non stories.. but in this day and age, they increasingly are.

Smudge, you’ve put your finger on a great human tragedy.

Humans should learn from their elders & betters, eradicate the mistakes of previous generations & in doing so create a better society.

The only reason they don’t is that most kids want to do things their own way.

And this is the key to progress. To improve you have to do things differently.

My parents were ok but could they be heard in a pantheon of Scullion, Endean, Bolan & Bowie?

I don’t expect today’s youth to be different.

It’s about power, influence, sex & success.

(Not sure where Stewart & Barry delivered against that agenda, looking back. Occasional success, I suppose.)

Genuinely shocked to see people siding with the likes of Piers Morgan on this.

Never wanted a player to succeed as much as I do Raheem Sterling, he gets a disgusting amount of ***** thrown at him for no reason, other than being a successful young black man.

I see The S*n have now gone to more parents of gun victims for response rather than take on board what Sterling said yesterday and realise he’s a victim of gun-crime himself.

    Disgraceful.

Hope when he scores in the World Cup he gives it the old finger gun salute!

Never understood why our media try and derail our International campaigns at every opportunity, the National team can do it themselves.

I just can’t for the life of me see what gives anybody else the right to tell a footballer what he should do or not do, so long as it’s nothing illegal.

Social media seems to have gone mad in the last 24 hours with people busy pontificating as if the world might stop turning if they’re not spending all day posting their opinions on this topic and informing people exactly what they think.

I’m probably no different really, as I visit here a lot expressing my thoughts on the football, and my doubts about Gracia. But I do so as somebody who actually has some input on the topic, because I can decide whether or not to spend my money on going to watch his side. And I know the world won’t stop turning or the forum explode or cease to function should I shut up for a while. Whether you like or don’t like this footballer’s tattoo is personal opinion and it’s not going to have any influence over the matter. So why get worked up?

Surely the important things today are when will it stop raining, when we will make another signing, what’s for dinner tonight etc?

Yet people are falling out with each other over a footballer’s tattoo. Wtf.

    The world is going mad.

This was the only decent thing Piers Morgan ever did, and the only time I've cheered an Aussie bowler against an Englishman:

As for Sterling - never been a big fan, nor did I particularly dislike him. But now I hope he bangs in a few important goals during the WC and rams the criticism from the press back down their throats, preferably with some kind of celebratory insult so we can see just what level of faux outrage they come up with next.

Wish I could declare this as oxymoronic, just for the sake of the thread title, but I will have to settle for paradox instead. If my view on this comes from being a parent, OK. You got me. Utter stupidity. If my view comes from remembering not so long ago, murder being so rare in the UK that all bar domestic were reported on national news. London alone has had over 50 this year, and it's only May. Got me again.

Your view, unlike mine, isn't verging on anything. Yours is fully fledged stupidity. There is a wider issue of Sterling and his leg which you don't have the capability to grasp.
